Taking public transportation in the United States, you can often see people reading books on their way to school or work. But in China, I rarely (很少地)see people reading during their free time.
Are peopled attitudes toward reading different here? Not really. Data released by Amazon China in December 2017 show that Chinese people still read a lot. They simply prefer e-books over regular books.
However, other data show that reading is still more popular in the US than in China. Is there a reason for this difference? Fm not sure・ What I do know is that China has a rich history of literature (文学)• From classic novels like Romance of the Three Kingdoms (三国演义)to the modern science-fiction epic The Three-Body Problem (三体),Chinese authors have created many fantastic written works.
Perhaps the difference starts from childhood・Reading textbooks and doing homework can make you feel quite tired. By the time you finish it, you might not feel like reading for fun. Chinese students definitely (肯定)have to do more homework than US students. So it's no wonder that they might not want to read much in their spare time.
But learning to love reading can be great. Reading can open doors to places, people and ideas that you carf t imagine. Even just a single book has the power to change your own personal beliefs and attitudes. Where will your next book take you?
()43. From Paragraph I, what do we know about people in the US?
A.Most people take public transportation to work.
B.Students have homework to do on their way to school.
C.Many of them have the habit of reading.
• one piece of heavy colorcd/3apc
•strong tape
•a pencil
ribbon D. They read books that are left behind on public transportation.

B. Chinese people prefer e-books to regular books.
C. Chinese people don 5t read in their spare time.
D. More books were published in 2016 than in 2017.
( )45. Why is reading less popular in China, according to the author?
A. Chinese people prefer to watch plays instead of reading.
B. If s hard to choose what to read.
C. Chinese people already read enough books during their childhoods.
D. People's childhood experiences may influence their reading habits.
( )46. According to the author, reading books can ______ ・
A. help you learn more about yourself
B. take too much of your time
C. make your imagination more powerful
D ・ change your view of the world

Step 3: Use a pencil to make a hole into both sides of the tube. The holes should be only on one end of the tube. Pull the string through both holes. Then tie the ends of the string togethe匚
Step 4: Now make five holes around the top of the other end of the tube.Put a ribbon through each of the holes. Tie a knot in the ends. Make sure the knots are bigger than the holes.

The idea that red means stop and green means to go has influenced our lives in more ways than just traffic signals(信号).We have been told from a young age that the color red means danger and green means it r s okay to move forward, 50 For something we have to look at every day, why couldn't they have been prettier colors?
Well, its important to know that before traffic lights for cars, there were traffic signals for trains. At first, railway companies use red to mean stop, white to mean go and green to mean warn. As you could imagine trains ran into a few problems with white meaning go. For example, one train mistook a bright star for white light and something unexpected happened. 51 And it's been that way ever since.
Red has always been a colour that meant danger, long before cars were even around. This most likely started because its the color with the longest wavelength (波长)so it can be seen somewhere farther than other colors.
52 Back in the 1900th, some stops signs were yellow because it was too hard to see a red sign in a poorly lit area. Finally, highly reflective materials, were developed and red stop signs were born. 53 School zones, some traffic signs and school buses continued to be painted yellow.
So next time you're impatiently waiting at the traffic light, don f t get so mad at them, they've certainly come a long way.
根据短文内容,从下列选项中选出能填入文中空白处的最佳选项。
A.Because of that, railway company finally moved green meaning go and used yellow
to mean warn.
B.Since yellow can be seen well at all times of the day.
C.But why were those colors chosen for traffic lights in the first place?
D.Colours are very important in our daily life.
E.But, believe it or not, yellow was once used to mean stop.
