READ ME FIRST for re-packaged HP-UX 11i v3 May 2017
Date: September, 2020
This document describes the HP-UX 11i v3 May 2017 software distribution media, as re-packaged and released in September 2020. Please read this document before the Read Before Installing or Updating guide, or other HP-UX guides supplied with this distribution.
The original HP-UX 11i v3 May 2017 distribution is no longer available. This re-packaged 2017 distribution is made available for download for customers who wish to install it now but do not have a copy of the original distribution. Customer Notice: HP-UX - Java Support and HP-UX OE ISO Image Availability for more background. Links are also listed at the end of this document.
The re-packaged HP-UX distribution excludes Java for the PA-RISC environment, across all Operating Environments and Application Software Media. All other software products from the original May 2017 distribution media are included unchanged, as summarised below.
Note that the original 2017 media contains the product SerialSCSI-00 tagged with an internal placeholder version B.11.31.1705.%424. The re-packaged 2017 media contains the same product with the correct version tag B.11.31.1303 as originally intended. The product itself is identical in both cases.
Cold-installing or updating an Intel Itanium 2 based HPE Integrity server
∙Whether you are cold-installing, or updating, from the re-packaged media to an Integrity server, you can follow the standard install procedure; the process remains the same for the re-packaged media.
∙Please note that the re-packaged media includes later versions of Java 6 and Java 7 for Integrity environment only, compared to the original media from May 2017. These Java versions are also available for download from My HPE Software Center. Links also available at the end of this document.
Cold-installing or updating a PA-RISC based HP 9000 server
∙Cold-installing the re-packaged media to a PA-RISC system is not supported. To use this media for cold installation to a PA-RISC system, a custom OE depot1 must be created.
∙To fulfil product dependencies for cold-installing from a custom OE depot, please copy the latest versions of Java 6 and Java 7 for PA-RISC from your previous media or backup, to the custom OE depot.
∙To update an existing PA-RISC based system using this media, you can follow the standard procedures without any changes. However, do note that the re-packaged distribution media does not contain Java for PA-RISC systems. To fulfil product dependencies for the update, please ensure the target PA-RISC system is pre-installed with the latest versions of Java 6 and Java 7 for PA-RISC, before you begin the update. These procedures are described in the Whitepaper listed in the references on the next page.
1 Creating a custom OE depot is a standard procedure described in the regular HP-UX Installing and Updating Guide.

The whitepaper relates to the HP-UX 11i v3 May 2020 release; but the procedure applies to older releases too.
