三.阅读理解
A
It is only during the last few years that man has generally realized that in the world of nature a balance exists between all forms of life. No living thing can exist by itself: it is part of a system in which all forms of life are joined together. If we change one part of the nature's order, this will almost certainly bring about changes in some other parts.
The cutting down of forests reduced the supply of oxygen. The killing of weeds and insects (昆虫) by chemicals led to the wide-spread poisoning of animals and birds. The throwing of waste products into the ocean hurt life in the sea, while waste gases changed the chemical balance of the atmosphere and shut out some of the sun's necessary lifegiving rays.
And so we could go on adding more examples until in despair (绝望地) we might feel like giving up the struggle to control these harmful human activities. Man is very clever at changing the world around him to satisfy his immediate needs, but he is not so clever at looking far ahead, or at thinking about what the future results of his action might be.Man will well destroy himself because of his silly action.
1.The first paragraph tells us that ________.
A.everything in nature can't exist without the help of man
B.no living thing can live naturally
C.all living things in nature depend on each other
D.man has known the importance of the balance of nature for a long time
2.In the second paragraph the examples given are used to prove that________.
A.it is only during the last few years that man has generally known the balance of nature
B. there are some living things which can exist by themselves without change
C.all forms of life belong to a system in which all the parts can be changed for one another D.we can change one form of life without destroying the balance of nature.
3.The last paragraph suggests that in order to get his immediate benefits (利益),________.
A.man often fails to think about his future results of his action
B.man is always too eager in planning for distant future
C.man often feels that he will have to give up in despair
D.man is always anxious to control his activities with limits
4.Which of the following statements is TRUE?
A.The cutting down of woods does little harm to human beings.
B.Man has to pay much more attention to the future results of his present action.
C.Oxygen comes from forests.
D.This passage tells us to try our best to get as much as possible immediately.
5.Which of the following is the best title of this passage?
A.The Secret of Nature. B. The Balance of Nature.
C.The Order of Nature. D.The Change of Nature.

The oldest stone buildings in the world are the pyramids. They have stood for nearly 5,000 years, and it seems likely that they will continue to stand for thousands of years yet. There are over eighty of them scattered(使散开)along the banks of the Nile, some of which are different in shape from the true pyramids. The most famous of these are the“Step”pyramid and the“Bent”pyramid.
Some of the pyramids still look as much alike as they must have been when they were built thousands of years ago. Most of the damage suffered by the others has been at the hands of men who were looking for treasure or,more often, for stone to use in modern buildings. The dry climate of Egypt has helped to keep the pyramids in good condition, and their very shape has made them less likely to fall into ruin. These are good reasons why they can still be seen today, but perhaps the most important one is that they were planned to last forever.
The“Step”pyramid had to be on the west side of the Nile, the side on which the sun set. This was for spiritual(精神的)reasons. It also had to stand well above the level of the river to protect it against the regular floods. It could not be too far from the Nile, however,as the stones to build it needed to be carried in boats down the river to the nearest point.Water transport was,of course, much easier than land transport. The builders also had to find a rock base, which was not likely to crack under the great weight of the pyramid. Finally,it had to be near the capital,or better still, near king's palace so that he could visit it easily to personally check the progress being made on the final resting place for his body.
6.Which of the following statements is TRUE about the “Step”pyramid?
A.It is unlikely to fall into ruin in the near future.
B.It was built on the sands along the Nile.
C.It is the oldest building on earth.
D.It is the most famous of the true pyramids.
7.The most important reason why some pyramids remain in good condition is that _ _______.
A.people have taken care of them
B.it doesn't rain often in Egypt
C.they were well designed
D.the government has protected them from damage
8.Most of the damage to the pyramids has been caused by ______.
A.the regular floods
B.the dry climate of Egypt
C.people searching for gold
D.people in search of building materials
9.Why did the Egyptians build the pyramids along the banks of the Nile?
A.Because they believed in their god.
B.Because it was difficult to find a large rock base far from the Nile.
C.Because the river helped a lot in the transport of building materials.
D.Because it was not easy to choose a suitable place for the pyramids.

How to overcome the pressure of exams
As we all know, most of us middle school students feel somehow nervous whenever we're taking an important exam. There is no doubt that exams are important to us students, but it's more important to have a right attitude towards them. As a matter of fact, exams are no more than a means of evaluation;therefore, there is no need to worry too much about the results. Only by studying hard every day and making good preparations for exams can we avoid suffering from the pressure of exams.
We'd better go out for a walk or do some outdoor exercise before exams. Besides, having enough sleep can make us full of energy and make it possible for us to perform well in the exam.
A hot bath and a cup of hot milk before going to bed can help you have a sound sleep.
So, my suggestion is: don't worry about exams and try to relax yourself.。
