When the traffic lights turn red, we will stop driving a car or crossing a street. Why is red used for traffic lights instead of other colors?
As we know, scattering(散射)happens when light goes through the air. For the same media(媒介), if the wavelength is long, the scattering will be short. If the wavelength is short, the scattering will be long.
Of all lights we can see red has the longest wavelength, so the scattering is the weakest. That means the red travels far. In fact, it travels faster on rainy days.
Using the red light can help drivers in farther areas see the lights. It helps drivers slow down or stop in time. If drivers don’t see the red light unti l they are close, they may not be able to stop the car in time. An accident may happen. Red can also excite people. Over seven years ago when I first started rock climbing I was frustrated(挫败的). I thought I would be natural for climbing. I was always an athlete and naturally good at sports. So, I didn’t understand why I was so bad at rock climbing.
I went to the rock gym and climbed all the time, and everyone kept telling me “just climb more and you’ll get better.” “Well, however, nothing I did was working. It felt like the harder I worked at it, the less progress I was actually making. After a while, I even started hating any climber who was stronger and better than me---especially the climbers who made it look so easy.
After a long time, I started making friends with some of the most experienced climbers around… professionals(专业人员)and full-timers. In fact, I felt so comfortable with them that one afternoon I just came out and simply asked for help. There is a saying, “If you want a shortcut to success, find someone who is successful and ask them to show you how to get there.” It is true in just a few short months. I learned far more from these climbing professionals than what I had learned during the previous(之前的) years of struggle on my own. My climbing changed…my strength, skills, mental toughness, formwork, confidence, everything.
I was no longer the average climber that no one knew. I discovered that climbing like the experts is more about working smarter, not harder(no training 7 days a week). What I discovered is so simple that, looking back now, I realized the biggest thing holding me back from being a bette r climber and having more fun doing it…was Me!

19、Hello, everybody. I am planning a summer trip called “Be a kid in the Mountains”. It will provide us with a meaningful week staying with the students in the mountains.
As many of their parents leave for the city to work, those students might feel lonely and some may even find it hard to go on studying. So we can bring them some school things like books and pens for their study, and prepare some interesting stories to share. In the daytime, we can go hiking and do some teamwork. In the evening, we can do such activities as popular games and group dance around the fire.
Isn’t that exciting? Come and join us. Let’s be “a kid in the mountains”. I believe it will bring sunshine to the children in the mountains as well as more confidence to us.
Thank you!。
