The device trim range is from -15dB to +15dB in 1dB increments.Analog Input TrimAn adjustment of analog input signals utilizing a clip indicator to display and adjust the incoming signal level for fine tuning. Often there are analog signals that have exceptionally high output that may overload or clip the S-1200/ 1200U’s input stage. This would require the input trim or even the Anti-clip circuit.NOTE: A Device with an analog source configured needs to be selected first in order to enable the Analog input trim function. Select the device button preset and proceed to the OSD Menu.A. Anti-Clip - The anti-clip function measures the signal level and prevents the inputsignalfrom overloading (clipping) the analog-to-digital converters. Press and hold the save button on the S-1200/ 1200U front panel until the programmableremote has learned the code (see the learning remote user manual for information on the actions required to learn code).E. Select and save as many commands as required.F. Press the recall button on the front panel to return to the Program Remote Screen and exitfrom the Program remote mode.c. Notch – Notch FilterBelow is a graph of the Notch Filter. The graph also shows what happens when you change the Shape parameter of the Notch filter. Notice how the width of the notch changes. The Frequency parameter of the notch filter moves the notch across the frequency band.d. Lshlf – Low Shelf FilterThe Low Shelf filter is the same as the High Shelf Filter except the LEVEL parameter changes the level of the frequencies below, instead of above, the crossover point specified by the FREQ parameter.Pking – Peaking FilterBelow are two graphs of the peaking filter. The peaking filter is similar to the notch, but the peaking filter has the ability to vary the depth of the notch using the LEVEL parameter. The depth can be changed to the point that it offers boost instead of cut. The first graph shows what happens when you change the Shape parameter of the Peaking filter with the LEVEL parameter set at +6. Notice how the width of the peak changes, if the LEVEL parameter was set negative there would be a notch instead of aFrequency - The Center/Cutoff Frequency can be specified for all of the filters. Thirty frequencies, up to 16K, which are the standard ISO 1/3 octave center frequencies are used as the Center/Cutoff Frequency Settings.Shape – The shape parameter used with the Notch and Peaking Filter, controls the bandwidth of the filter. The Shape parameter can be adjusted from 0.4 to 9.0. Level - The Peaking, High Shelf and Low Shelf filters require a level adjustment. The input level to the filter is reduced allowing the filter to pass full scale input at the filter’s peak level without clipping the signal. The level difference is made up in the volume control so the peak of the filter is really above/below the un-filtered level and the un-filtered levels are the same as they were before filtering. Altera MAX II CPLD 上的 LCD 控制器应用说明说明书
Application Note 497LCD Controller Using MAX II CPLDs IntroductionThis document details the implementation of an LCD controller in an Altera ® MAX ® II CPLD. The example display uses an Optrex 16x 2 Dot Matrix LCD module, such as the popular SC1602D device. The controller receives its display signal from a microprocessor or a micro controller and translates it into commands that are understood by the LCD module. MAX II devices possess the industry’s only user flash memory (UFM), which is used by the controller to display a message upon power on. This eliminates the need for an external memory. Also, no external clock signal is required by the controller as it utilizes the CPLD’s internal UFM oscillator for its clocking needs. These unique features make the MAX II CPLD the perfect target device for such a controller.LCDsLiquid crystal displays (LCDs) are thin, flat display devices made up of any number of color or monochrome pixels arranged in front of a light source or reflector. These displays have become an indispensable part of most of electronic devices. Some features that have made LCDs popular are:■LCDs provide applications with a useful interface that allows debugging capabilities and provides the application with a more professional look ■LCDs use very small amounts of electric power; they are very suitable for battery powered devices ■LCDs are slim and use small amounts of space compared to other display types Most LCD modules are equipped with a generic interface, on-board controllers, and an on-board driver. Thus, using an LCD to enhance the visual appeal of any application has become a lot simpler. Some devices that use LCD displays are wrist watches, calculators, laptops, PDAs, cellular phones, home electronics, and toys.LCD ControllerYou can easily integrate this controller design into any application to provide a suitable display unit. It meets the timing constraints of the LCD by generating the necessary timing signals and simultaneously off loads the microprocessor and controller from the details of the LCD, thereby allowing the processor and the controller to carry out their other operations efficiently.December 2007, version 1.0Figure1 shows a block diagram for the LCD controller. The three mainmodules inside the LCD controller are the finite state machine (FSM), theuser flash memory (UFM), and the clock divider module. The interfacingsignals to the LCD module are E, RS, RW, and DB0-DB7. This designsuccessfully interfaces the processor and the LCD module through thecontroller. For more information on the signals, refer to Table1.Figure1.LCD ControllerInitializing the LCD Module and the Finite State MachineThe FSM is made of eight different states. It is used to initialize the LCD,display a message after initialization is complete, and to write to and readfrom the LCD. The initialization steps for the LCD module are shown inFigure2.Figure2.LCD Module Initialization Flow Chartf f To simplify initialization, a delay of 15ms is provided after each command is sent (instead of checking the status of the busy flag). However, while writing data into the LCD module, the status of the busy flag is checked after each data write. This makes the writing procedure faster. For more information about initializing the LCD module and the various commands supported by it, see the Optrex LCD Manual at the following link:http s:///User Flash MemoryThe UFM inside the MAX II CPLD is used to store the ASCII values of the characters to be displayed as soon as the controller is turned on. It is instantiated using the UFM megafunction. Parallel interface programs the UFM with the help of a hexadecimal (Intel_Format) file (.hex). For more information on creating a .hex file using the Quartus® II software, refer to the following link:/support/software/nativelink/quartus2/glossa ry/def_rif.htmlFor more information about instantiating the UFM using the MegaWizard® Plug-In Manager, refer to the Using User Flash Memory in MAX II Devices chapter in the MAX II Device Handbook.Clock DividerThe clock divider module reduces the frequency of the internal oscillator output so that the timing requirements of the LCD module are met and the controller performance is satisfactory. Use this design source code and allocate the data bus and control lines (input and output) to the general purpose I/O (GPIO) lines of the MAX II CPLD. Use the internal user flash memory to store any default message you wish to display on the LCD module upon power on. Use the memory editor in the Quartus II software to create a memory initialization file to store the default message in the LCD module. The following details the implementation of this design on the MDN-B2 demo board. Table 2 lists the EPM240G pin assignments for this design example.1Unused pins are assigned as input tri-stated in the Quartus II software’s device and pin option settings prior to compilation.Design Notes To demonstrate this design on the MDN-B2 demo board, complete the following:1.Download the design on to the MAX II CPLD through the JTAG header JP5 and a conventional cable (ByteBlaster ™II, USB-Blaster ™). Programming requires the demo board to be switched on (slide switch SW1). After programming, turn off the power.Table 2.Design Implementation Using the MDN-B2 Demo Board EPM240G Pin Assignments Signal Pin Signal Pin DB[0] pin 53DB[4]pin 1DB[1] pin 98DB[5] pin 96DB[2] pin 52DB[6]pin 92DB[3] pin 97DB[7]pin 95data[0] pin 55data[4]pin 61data[1] pin 56data[5]pin 66data[2] pin 57data[6]pin 67data[3] pin 58data[7]pin 68E pin 99rst pin 77RS pin 100ack pin 69RW pin 54we pin 812.Ensure that the memory file lcd_new.hex (included with the sourcecode files) is placed in the Quartus II software’s project library.3.Connect the LCD module to the board using the suppliedinterconnect cable. Connect the 14-pin socket of the cable to CN1 on the LCD module (the red mark meets pin1 on CN1 of the demoboard) and connect the 20-pin socket to JP8 on demo board (the red mark on socket meets pin 1 on JP8 of the demo board).e the Optrex SC1602D LCD module (which is also supplied withAltera’s NIOS® II development kit 2C35N [Cyclone II version]).5.Supply the LCD module with the required 5V power supplythrough the DC socket on the interconnect cable. This DC socket has conventional polarity (the inner pin is positive). You can also use3xAA or AAA batteries to power up the LCD module.6.Connect the 5V power supply to the LCD module first. Thenconnect the interconnect cables as mentioned in step 4.7.Turn on the power supply to the MDN-B2 demo board using theslide switch SW1.8.Observe the default message on the LCD module. This message ispre-programmed in the UFM of the MAX II CPLDs using thelcd_new.hex file. The controller reads this message only once upon power-on.e the reset push button SW6 on the demo board to reset the LCDmodule. Note that after reset, the cursor on the LCD is in its firstcharacter position on the first row and is blinking.10.For the purpose of this exercise, you can enter any ASCII datacorresponding to a character you wish to display using the SW5switch (the 8-way dual in-line package (DIP) GPIO input switch on the demo board). The switch sets a logic 0 when ON, and a logic 1 when OFF. Switch #1 is the LSB on this ASCII data byte.11.Press button SW8 on the demo board to write enable the controller, which enables it to take in fresh data set by the SW5 switch. Thedemo board takes in new data as long as the SW8 button is pressed, and at a rate of approximately 4.25 kHz. It updates all characters on both rows almost immediately after pressing the SW8 button.1This design is made to work specifically with Optrex’s SC1602DLCD module. This LCD module has non-consecutive addresseson the last character of the first row and first character of thesecond row on the LCD. This design makes suitable alterationsto match this arrangement.Source Code This design has been implemented in Verilog and successful operationhas been demonstrated using the MDN-B2 demo board, as referenced inthe documentation. RMI Alchemy™ Au1200™ Processor LCD Controller1.0 AbstractThe RMI Alchemy™ Au1200™ processor LCD display con-troller delivers new technology that offers design flexibility and application scalability to the developers of portable multimedia devices and other consumer electronics devices such as cellular phones. The LCD controller pro-vides developers with full 32-bit RGB/alpha capabilities in each of four prioritized overlay windows that require no frame buffer modification to reposition; gamma correction for matching video displays with graphics; a global back-ground color that aesthetically unifies display panel con-tents while helping to minimize processing demands; a four-color alpha-capable hardware cursor; and an 8-Kbit palette RAM frame buffer that is well-suited to display infor-mation in portable device sleep modes.2.0 OverviewAs multimedia capabilities increase in the consumer elec-tronics market, the demand for improved conventional LCD controllers grows. Dependable, flexible, and robust graph-ics/video display capabilities are crucial to both the utility and aesthetic appeal of portable electronics devices. The Au1200™ processor on-chip LCD controller repre-sents new thinking about display characteristics and capa-bilities. LCD controllers typically use a single frame buffer to render the entire screen image. In view of the diverse needs of developers, this monolithic scheme has been abandoned, and in its place an entirely new LCD controller has been created with characteristics that contribute to the versatility of the Au1200 processor.2.1Au1200™ Processor LCD Control-ler CharacteristicsBy providing four discrete overlay windows and one dedi-cated background color, this new LCD controller lends its superior capabilities to the most modest of display devices or to the most intense demands of high-quality personal media players (PMPs) and other multimedia-rich products. Each of the four overlay window features independent 8-bit alpha override; priority assignment in relation to other over-lay windows; unprecedented fluidity in window x/y reposi-tioning - accomplished with one register write, and double buffering support. The single background color eliminates repeated memory fetches that would normally be required to fill a potentially large area of the display, and is instead accomplished with a single write operation.Figure 2-1.LCD Controller Display CharacteristicsWhite Paper32787A - March 2005 - Confidential The LCD controller also provides a 32x32 four-color user-defined hardware cursor that supports alpha fades and transpar-ency, as shown in Figure .2.1.1LCD Panel CompatibilityThe 32-bit LCD controller in the Au1200 processor is capable of driving both active (TFT) and passive (STN) LCD panels through multiplexed signal pins. Color palette support is accomplished with an on-chip 256 entry 24-bit palette. TFT 24-bit mode allows display of up to 1,777,721 simultaneous colors. The controller drives a wide array of LCD panels, encompass-ing industry standard one 8-bit gray scale or four 24-bit color by implementing user-programmable vertical and horizontal synchronization signals, bias signals and pixel clock rates. The controller performs basic memory-based frame buffer to LCD panel data transfer using a dedicated DMA controller with double buffering support. A variety of frame buffer formats, independent of LCD panels, are supported, including those listed in Table 2-1.Table 2-1.AU1200™ Processor LCD Controller Frame Buffer FormatsDescription Memory Width Format1bpp1I:12bpp2I:24bpp4I:48bpp8I:816bpp (5/6/5)16R:5 G:6 R:524bpp (0/8/8/8)32P:8 R:8 G:8 B:832bpp w/ alpha (8/8/8/8)32a:8 R:8 G:8 B:8I - Intensity, P - padding, R - red, B - blue, G - green, a - alphaThe controller will support 32-bit input formats, and supports LCD RGB/alpha operation. Usability of the Au1200™ proces-sor has been maintained for lower-end applications by providing spatio-temporal dithering (frame rate modulation) that sup-ports the still-popular STN type LCD panels. When used with external video sources, the LCD controller accepts external clock signals from devices like TV tuner chips, to support video sync of source data, such as NTSC or PAL.2.1.2 Window ManipulationVisibility of each overlay window for display effects can be achieved with less code and less processing power. The LCD controller allows displayed images to be faded in/out via an 8-bit-per-window alpha blend, without having to write display change information for an entire frame buffer. Instead, the 8-bit alpha value in the overlay window's register controls these window characteristics.2.1.3Gamma CorrectionThe brightness of displayed video in relation to displayed graphics can be easily modulated by the on-chip gamma correc-tion features of the LCD controller.2.1.4Mini Frame Buffer / Palette RAMThe LCD controller provides developers with a mini on-chip frame buffer (8192 bits) that is scalable by a factor of 2 or 4. The mini on-chip frame buffer can be employed when power conservation is paramount, delivering useful display informa-tion even when the chip is in low power/sleep mode. For example, using the mini frame buffer, an LCD panel could display time or reminder message information even in a handheld electronic device’s inactive mode.White Paper32787A - March 2005 - Confidential2.2Use ModelsEmploying four separately prioritized overlay windows each capable of alpha fades, the ability of this LCD controller to ren-der display information is limited only by the developer’s imagination. The LCD controller offers other superior features. Because it is integrated seamlessly with the Media Acceleration Engine and a core processor that is unburdened by soft-ware transcoding, it can render high-quality D1 video while displaying user interface controls that exhibit quick response characteristics.2.2.1Example: Wide Screen VideoFigure 2-2.LCD Controller design helps reduce system workloadsFigure 2-2 represents an 800x600 screen size with the background color set to dark gray. Because this full screen back-ground color requires no fetches to memory, this new LCD controller design immediately reduces system workload for this display by 33%.32787A - March 2005 - ConfidentialWhite PaperExample: Wide Screen Video and U/I Playback ControlsFigure 2-3 represents the same 800x600 screen size. The LCD controller's palette RAM can also be used as a small on-chip frame buffer to display a small image (in this example, the alarm time) so that it does not have to continuously be fetched from memory. The palette RAM size is small, 8192 bits, but provides continuously-displayed information at serviceable resolutions. This use of palette RAM supports LCD displays during very low power states. Fur-ther sizing flexibility is built in with the overlay window scaling feature: larger image sizes can be achieved by employing built-in x and y scaling by factors of 2 or 4.Figure 2-5.Palette RAM makes displays available during low power states.© 2006 Raza Microelectronics, Inc.
