The reasons of bikes or e-bike theft in GXUquanlinghui 1420200320 There is saying in Guangxi University (GXU)which is that when you decide to buy a bike, you had better buy the bike as ugly as possible,You may wondering why people want to buy the ugliest bike? The reason is that they usually lose their bikes and in order to reduce their damage if their bikes are stolen, So they rather buy the ugliest bike and usually also the cheapest,So as to find out the potential reasons that could cause the bike theft cases. We set three possible reasons which we think could be the cause of the theft of bikes and e-bikes. Those three preview hypotheses are1.Too many bikes and e-bikes are in the GuangXi University.2.The carelessness of the students3.The security system in GX University is not perfectIn order to prove our hypotheses we conduct a online questionnaire .The total number of the questionnaire we conduct is 202 and participants come from 14 different institutes of GXU. We design the questionnaire to find out the potential reasons.The tremendous number of bikes and e-bikes in GuangXi University According to the data we collect from the questionnaire, we find out that 56.44 percent of the people who did this survey admit they own a bike, and11.39 percents of them possess a e-bike. Combine with the students' number from the homepage of GXU. The present students' number of GXU is 77704.If we use the ratio that about 67 percents of the students in GXU own their own bikes or e-bikes. The total number of bikes or e-bikes in GXU could be about 52061. Even if we shrink the ratio, the number is still enormous. It is sure that there are enough bikes and e-bikes in the GXU. And massive number of bikes and E-bikes in GXU is really a treasure island to the thieves.The protection awareness of students are still need to improve..From the data we collected from the questionnaires. We find out that nearly 15 percent of the people who take this questionnaire do not park their bike within the parking zone which is outside the dormitory. And the according to the survey 58percents of the bikes which had been stolen were parking outside the parking zone. And the teacher from security department we interview told us that parking in the parking zone outside the dormitory could be safer because the security camera which is placed outside the entry of the dormitory building can cover some areas of the parking zone. It can awe the thefts. So in that way students are still careless to park their bikes or e-bikes somewhere else.It would not be a surprise that most people act reasonable for safekeeping their belongings, but there are still nearly 15 percent of our samples do not park in the parking zone at ordinary times. Because of that, Did not park on the parking zone could increase the chance of losing bikes. Also we interview20 students who lost their bikes, 40 percents of their bikes were using a chain lock which could be easily cut down with a vice. And 35 percent of them did not park their bike or e-bike in the parking zone. Those data shows us that the protection awareness of students are still need to improveThe security system in GX University need to be perfect.In our questionnaire we ask about what their attitude about the security condition in GXU. We have found out that only 3.96 percent of them are satisfied with the security condition in GXU. In order to find out why we lost so many bikes and e-bikes, we compare with the some condition of college security system. Such as when we investigate the security system of GuangXi University of finance and economics. We found out that this school has set a rule that any e-bikes go into the school should have a security card and when it came out it needed to turn back the card or they can't get out. So in that way, thefts can't easily steal a e-bike and go out freely. And this kind of system does not exist in GXU. Even though we can read some news about catching bike-thefts in our school from time to time, However they are still a small part of thefts. How to improve the security system and manage the bikes and e-bikes orderly is an important matter for security department,Extra finding--black market.When we interview these students where did they bike their bikes ,they mention the illegal second-market which lies out of the east gate of GXU. The bikes sold there are all stolen bikes according to the teacher of securitydepartment . While because of the low price, these illegal bikes are sold secretly back to some students in GXU which cause a malignant circle.Limitation of this research.⏹ 1.The quantity of our questionnaires is not large enough.⏹2.The students we interview are only 20 people .⏹3. There still could be some uncertain factors we didn’t find couldinfluence on this matterThrough our research we have proved the three possible reasons that contribute to the bike or e-bike theft in GXU, And also we accidently found that black market is also a cause to bike theft.。
