NB7NPQ1004MMTGEVB NB7NPQ1004MMTGEVB Evaluation Board User's ManualIntroductionThe NB7NPQ1004MMTGEVB evaluation board was developed to provide a convenient platform to quickly verify the operation of the NB7NPQ1004M redriver in a USB type −A system environment. This evaluation board manual contains:•Information on the NB7NPQ1004M Evaluation Board •Board Schematics •Bill of MaterialsFeatures•Accommodates the Functional Evaluation of the Device•Acts as a Reference Design that can Easily be Modified for Active Cables, UFP (Upstream Facing Port), DFP (Downstream Facing Port), and DRP (Dual Role Port) Applications•Type −A Plug and Receptacle to Easily Place in the Existing System Environment•On Board Control Pins for Adjusting Settings without Compromising Form FactorPart DescriptionThe NB7NPQ1004M is a 3.3 V quad channel, linear redriver for USB 3.1 applications that supports both 5 and 10 Gbps data rates.Signal integrity degrades from PCB traces and transmission cables which may cause inter symbol interference (ISI). The NB7NPQ1004M compensates for these losses by engaging varying levels of equalization at the input receiver. The output transmitter circuitry provides user selectable flat gain settings to create the best eye openings for the outgoing data signals. The flexibility of this part allows it to fit into many system applications. After power up, the NB7NPQ1004M periodically checks both of the TX output pairs of each port for a 50 W termination for a Super Speed USB receiver. When the receiver is detected on either channel of a port, the internal RX termination will be enabled of that respective channel. The port becomes active once both TX outputs have detected 50 W termination, and the NB7NPQ1004M is set to perform the redriver function. Port AB (channels A & B) and port CD (channels C & D) are independent of each other. This manual should be used in conjunction with the device datasheet NB7NPQ1004M which contains full technical details on the devicespecifications and operation.EVAL BOARD USER’S MANUALFigure 1. Table 1 and Figure 4 describe the jumper settings for each of the configuration.Monitoring Current / PowerThere are two easy ways to monitor the current consumed by the redriver. If you are using an external power supply, you can simply use the current meter commonly found on the power supplies. If you would like to use a current probe, simply solder the probe between the VCC pin and the power supply. This will allow monitoring of the NB7PQ1004M’s current consumption.USB 2.0 Data LinesThe USB 2.0 lines can be disconnected by removing the 0 W resistors R2, R17, R18 and R19 on the D+ and D− lines. This is useful if you cannot easily tell whether the downstream facing port has acknowledged a Super Speed(+) connection with the inserted loss, or if it stepped down to High Speed data rates. When a receiver is detected through RxDetect, the DFP will initialize link training. It will send a test signal out at the highest data rate and expect to see the same signal sent back by the UFP. If the signals do not match due to ISI (or any other connection issues) then it will drop down the data rate to USB 2.0 speeds. On Windows machines, an easy way to tell that a Super Speed connection was not established is to look for a pop up in the task bar letting the user know that “This device can perform faster”. A disk benchmarking tool like Crystal Disk Mark that lets you test read and write speeds to a peripheralstorage can also be used.USB 5 V VBUSLDO 5 V InputLDO5 V OutputJ14J13VCC Test Pt.GND Test Pt.LDO3.3 VFigure 4. For connection layout and pad-size, through-hole and connector details please refer to padlayout and designation definitions.4.Product DescriptionTypical Gain PatternThe MWSL1206 GPS L1 miniature high-gain active dielectric-loaded antenna uses MARUWA’sdistinctive materials technology to provide unrivalled circularly-polarised gain from a uniquely small volume. It enables excellent GPS performance in tightly integrated devices that require good positional accuracy.By combining a high-quality dielectric antenna with a high-performance low-noise amplifier the MWSL1206 active antenna provides an excellent solution wanting an active gain input. The MWSL1206 antenna has a sharp filtering response and is particularly suitable for applications where:*The device is hand-held, body-worn, or otherwise surrounded by materials of high relative dielectric-constant which would de-tune other antennas.* The antenna is installed in close proximity to other antennas sharing the same device housing and ground-plane: for example Bluetooth®, WiFi, LTE,WiMax and other cellular radio antennas.* The antenna must fit into a very small installation volume with close proximity to other components and little or no space available for a ground-plane.* The GPS receiver requires 20dB or more of input pre-amplification.* The device is noisy and requires front-end amplification to achieve the required GPS sensitivity.* The orientation of the device is random.* The antenna must be embedded into the device. The MWSL1206 antenna is balanced, which isolates it from the device ground enabling it to reject common-mode noise present on the device ground-plane. The construction and materials of the antenna constrain its near-field region to occupy a very small volume so that materials near theantenna cause negligible de-tuning effects. Therefore the antenna maintains its pattern and efficiency in the presence of dielectric loading. As a dielectric-loaded antenna, equipped with an additional SAW band-pass filter in the amplifier, the MWSL1300 has a stable filtering effect; attenuating signals from common cellular and ISM frequency bands by as much as 30dB without external filtering.-96-90-84849096Low Noise Amplifier Characteristics.Frequency (MHz)S 21 dB 860Cellular 900-24970-241575.42GPS (L1)+251700Cellular 1800-251800-271900-282450Bluetooth/WiFi -27Wide-band Frequency ResponseA major advantage of this MARUWA dielectric-loaded antenna technology is its immunity tode-tuning in close-proximity to human tissues and other in-use causes of dielectric-loading. The MWSL1206 antenna retains efficiency and polarization near the human body.Conventionalantennas may lose 5-10dB of gain in similar circumstances.Though it is electrically isolated from the device ground plane, through the action of anintegrated balun, the rugged MWSL1206 antenna can be expected to increase efficiency by up to 100% when mounted over a ground plane due to constructive near-field signal reflections. The MWSL1206 incorporates a high-gain low-noise amplifier is optimised for 3V dc whichis connected to the amplifier through the signal output pad (see pad-layout designations). It provides 25dB peak gain and a very low noise figure of less than 1.3dB. It draws lessthan 14mA for all specified conditions. In addition to the sharp filtering response of theMARUWA dielectric-loaded antenna the MW1206 has a built-in SAW band-pass filter withless than 1.25dB of insertion loss.-40-30-20-10010203080010501300155018002050230025502800R H C P G a i n a t Z e n i t h (d B i c )Frequency (MHz)MWSL1206: Wide-Band Filtering ResponseAntenna Integration Options Pad Number Function 1Ground 2Ground 3RF Out, DC In 4Ground 5Ground Dimensions mm 0.1A 5.0B 2.1C5.95D6.3E2.0F4.7G13.4H19.6J 6.0Pad Layout and Pad DesignationsMWSL1206 antennas may be mounted externally (order MWSL1206R version) orembedded within a device (order MWSL1206SB version). The product is designed to tuneto the correct frequency when the sleeve or radome-cap is fitted. In thecase of externalmounting the device housing should be designed to seal around the radome-cap groove inorder to provide mechanical support. When internally mounted the sleeve should befitted and the antenna can be fitted into a corner cut-out in the device PCB. Adjacentmetal ground-surfaces (PCB ground-layers or screening cans) can uplift the radiationefficiency compared with the antenna operating separately in free-space. For optimumperformance the gap between the antenna and the copper edge of the PCB ground-planeshould be greater than 5mm. MARUWA can provide application notes with integrationguidance.
