(K = Katia A = Alex)
K:Are your parents on any social sites like WeChat and QQ?
A:My mom and dad are on WeChat. And my mom also got Weibo.
K:Oh really?
A:Yeah. And I still don’t have Weibo.
K:How do you feel about having your parents on these social media sites?
A:You know, WeChat, I don’t know. I think it’s a bit odd honestly. There’s some stuff on there; it’s for my friends. It’s not really for them, so I don’t know. I feel it can be a bit awkward.

Dialogue 2
(K = Katia A = Alex)
A:Hi, Katia, how are you?
K:I’m doing good, and you Alex?
A:I’m doing good. Thank you. I have a question for you. Are you on WeChat?
K:Yes, I’m on WeChat. But I really do not check it very often.
A:OK. How often do you check it usually?
K:Em… I actually try not to check it very often. It’s been taken a lot of my time. So right now I check it about… I try once a week during the weekends.
A:OK. I used to be on WeChat a lot before. But then I realize that I was losing a lot of time on it, and I kind of decide to close my wall. But I don’t know if that’s the right thing, because sometimes I feel that I need to communicate stuff with my friends.
K:It really has become an issue, hasn’t it? You can get lost from what is actually happening around you and live in a virtual world. I believe that it should be handled differently than it has up to now so maybe you’re doing good by closing or, you know, thinking about it at least.
A:Yeah.
K:But how much, that you might have to consider.

W:Hi! David, I didn’t see you in class today. Have you stayed in the dorm all day?
M:Yeah. I’ve been chatting with a WeChat friend online all day. He is so fun.
W:Don’t you think you have spent too much time on WeChat recently?
M:I don’t think so. I’m having so much fun now. And it really widens my friend circle.
W:Have you ever met those friends you are chatting with online? M:No, most of them I’ve never met. But they live such wonderful lives which I envy so much.
W:Instead of watching other people’s lives, why don’t you put more energy into living your own real life? You have missed all the math classes and five English classes this month. Don’t you worry about failing the exams this semester?
M:Really? I didn’t realize that. It seems that I did spend so much time on WeChat. I just couldn’t help myself. What should I do? I can’t fail the exams!
W:I think you can start to balance your time arrangement of studying and social networking. Don’t worry about the classes you’ve missed, I will help you.
M:Thank you so much. I hope it’s not too late for me to get away from social network addiction.
W:It’s never too late. Do you miss the days we played basketball together in the gym? Let’s step in the real life from there. And then we will start working on your missed lessons.
M:Great! Thank you for helping me.

Theme:The merits and faults of social media
Situation:The teacher invites you to show your opinions about the merits and faults of social networks.
场景:老师邀请你谈谈对社交媒体的优缺点的一些看法。

Sample:
As we all know, everything has two sides. Social networks give us a platform to know more friends, and it is convenient for us to communicate with others. As it is a virtual world, we can talk with people all around the world. What’s more, there is no need to worry about what we should say and what we shouldn’t. On the other hand, we rely on social networks so much in our life, that we reduce person to person interaction. If you spend a lot of time with people who are physically present in your life, the friends around you will quickly get annoyed by you when you’re paying more attention to an electronic device than them. In addition, it may lead you to distract from life goals. It’s so easy to get wrapped up in what’s going on on social media, that people will neglect their real life goals. Especially for younger people, they tend to strive for internet stardom and delay their studies.【学生】分组、设计对话内容、练习、上台表演

So let’s give some love, not just our likes
Look up and into each other’s eyes

I’m tired of anti social media
It’s for the birds, yet we never stop tweeting Ain’t no fun if we aren’t in front of a computer screen Let’s go outside, real life doesn’t need a filter
We’re just slaves to our cellular providers
What happened to good old-fashioned talking to one another?
Can’t say hello if it uses up my data
Snapchats and selfies, don’t waste your time
I want to see you with my own eyes
