Ⅰ. 阅读理解
A
The British Daily Telegraph
Traditionally regarded as one of the safest planes in the skies, the Boeing 777’s reputation has been damaged by the second fatal crash in less than a year. There are around 1, 000 Boeing 777s in service, and the plane is a long-distance machine, travelling some of the longest routes. It entered service in 1995 and the National Transportation Safety Board, which is responsible for monitoring US-made aircraft, has recorded fewer than 60 incidents.
But the recent record hasn’t been exact with two major incidents—a crash at San Francisco airport in July, 2013, which causes three deaths, and the crash—landing of a British Airways 777 at Heathrow in January 2008.
To our sadness, in March, 2014, Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 lost contact flying from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. The Malaysian disaster is very different from both the BA incident and the crash involving an Asian Airlines flight at San Francisco International Airport in July, which occurred shortly before landing, while the Malaysia airlines plane disappeared off the radar(雷达)during the early stages of the trip.
The accident at San Francisco in July was due to pilot error which led to the engines being set to idle because he believed the computer would maintain sufficient speed to keep the plane up in the air. The BA crash landing, which did not result in any deaths, was finally found to have been caused by a block in the fuel line feeding the engine.
However, the Malaysia airlines plane disappeared off the radar during the early stages of the trip. No exact explanations have been given for the Malaysia airlines plane crash. First reports suggest that Zaharie Ahmad Shah, the 53-year-old Malaysian airlines pilot, was hugely experienced—having joined the carrier in 1981
and with 18, 365 hours in the aircraft under his belt.

Did you know that Albert Einstein could not speak until he was four years old, and did not read until he was seven? His parents and teachers worried about his mental ability.
Beethoven’s music teacher said about him, “As a composer(作曲家)he is hopeless. ”What if this young boy believed it?
When Thomas Edison was a young boy, his teachers said he was so stupid that he could never learn anyt hing. He once said, “I remember I used to never be able to get along at school. I was always at the foot of my class. . . My father thought I was stupid, and I almost decided that I was a stupid person. ”What if young Thomas believed what they said about him?
When the sculptor(雕刻家)Auguste Rodin was young; he had difficulty learning to read and write. Today, we may say he had a learning disability. His father said of him, “I have an idiot(白痴)for a son. ”His uncle agreed. “He’s uneducable, ”he said. What i f Rodin had doubted his ability?
Walt Disney was once fired by a newspaper editor because he was thought to have no“good ideas”. Enrico Caruso was told by one music teacher, “You can’t sing. You have no voice at all. ”And an editor told Louisa May Alcot t that she was unable to write anything that would have popular appeal.
What if these people had listened and become discouraged? Where would our world be without the music of Beethoven, the art of Rodin or the ideas of Albert Einstein and Walt Disney? As Oscar Levant once said, “It’s not what you are but what you don’t become that hurts. ”
You have great potential. When you believe in all you can be, rather than all you cannot become, you will find your place on earth.

As it is known to us, fewer and fewer students do sports regularly, what makes them weak and easily tired.
There are many reasons about this. First of all, some of the students complained that they have too many homework, resulting in less time to take exercise. Beside, some of them think that it is very difficulty for them to keep doing exercise, because it is a very hard thing.
Because lack of physical activities, many students are in poor health. I suggest that our school must take measures to encourage more students to take part in sports. For us students, no matter what busy we are, it is necessary to spare some time to do exercise.

Of the two books recommended by my English teacher, I prefer Everyone Is Beautiful by Caroline Strong, which as the title suggests, is about why and how to respect others and feel proud to be ourselves at the same time.
As a teenager, I often wonder why on earth people are so widely different from one another. Some are smart and beautiful. Others are plain-looking and slow in learning. I envy many of my classmates who are better than me in one way or another, which often makes me feel inferior.
How can“Everyone is beautiful”? I can’t wait to find out.

Of the two books recommended by my English teacher, I would choose Leadership is a Choice to read first. From the title I guess the book gives valuable advice on how to develop one’s leade rship skills, which is just what I need.
As a shy girl, I always choose to follow others rather than take the lead. The few times when I was made a group leader, I made a mess of the whole thing. I am afraid I can never become a leader.
Conquer your fear s and you can be a leader too. Really? And how? I can’t wait to find out.。
