A
When Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone in 1876,he could never have predicted what it would be able to do in the future.Now,130 years late, it’s no surprise when someone takes out a cellphone to make a call while on the move.
But phones are no longer just used to make calls. Japan’s 90 million cellphone owners also use their machine’s modern technology and tiny screens(hal f the size of business card)to play video games, send e-mails, read news, download music, store photos and surf the Internet. Since April,2006,they’ve been able to use their cellphones to watch TV.
Following several months of test broadcasts, digital(数码的)TV broadcasts for cellphones with special receivers began in Japan’s major cities. The special cellphones are hard to find because only a small number were put on sale. The excitement surrounding mobile TV means that the limited number of handsets(耳机)quickly sold out.
Misogo Kado, a 37-year-old software designer from Yokohama, near Tokyo, bought one of the new cellphones earlier this month.
He is a big fan of the new technology. “You know how every cellphone now comes with a digital camera? In the same way, this is going to become a standard feature,” Kado said of the TV service. “It’s not something you have to pay for.If you’re buying a cellphone, you might as well get one with it.” While the service is new for Japan, it is not the world’s first. South Kore a and Britain have made TV available to their cellphone customers with the use of slightly different technology. The new service in Japan, however, is free.
Not only that, it uses broadcasting airwaves(电视频道)instead of an Internet connection. The images are sent through the air by TV towers, on satellites. This terrestrial(陆地的)digital broadcast system means that more people will be able to use the service. Imagine what our phones will be able to do in another 130 year’s time!
36.How much does the new service of a mobile phone to watch TV in Japan cost?
A. Half as much as the mobile phone costs.
B. As much as the mobile phone costs.
C. Slightly more than the mobile phone costs.
D. It doesn’t cost any money.

原文第五段末句“The new service in Japan, however, is free.”

37.In which country can people still not watch TV on a mobile phone?

B. Britain.
C. America.

39.Through what are the TV images of a mobile in Britain sent?
A. Air.
B. Satellites.
C. Broadcasting airwaves.
D. The text doesn’t tell us.

40.What is the best title of the text?
A. TV Goes Mobile
B. Mobile will Be More Popular
C. Mobile Is on TV
D. Mobile Goes TV

Girls think more quickly than boys
New research, attempting to throw light upon how male and female brains differ has found that timing is everything. American V anderbilt University researchers Stephen Camarata and Richard Woodcook discovered that females have a significant advantage over males in timed tests and tasks. The study involved more than 8000 males and females ranging in age from 2 to 90 from across the US.
“We found hardly any differences in overall(全面的)intelligence. But we discovered that females performed better than men in time limited situations,” Camarate said. “It is v ery important for teachers to understand it in males and females when it comes to assigning work and test. Many males can do a better job without strict time limits,” added Camarate.
“Consider that many classroom activities, including testing, are directly or indirectly related to processing speed,” the researchers wrote in their report. “The higher performance in females may contribute to a classroom culture that favour females, not because of teacher bias(偏见)but because of inherent(与生俱来的)differences in gender(性别)processing speeds.”
The researchers found that males scored lower than females in all age groups in tests measuring processing speed. However, the study also found that males consistently(一贯地)outperformed females in some language abilities, such as identifying objects and knowing antonyms(反义词)and synonyms(同义词).The research contradicts(与……矛盾)the popular belief that girls develop all communication skills earlier than boys.
The researchers found no significant overall intelligence differences between males and females in any age groups.
“We believe there are fundamental(本质的)differences in how male and female brains end up getting organized,” Camarata said. “Our next studies will give us some insight(洞察力)into where these processing differences are occurr ing.”
41.What is the purpose of the new research?
A. To explain how male and female brains differ.
B. To explain male is cleverer than female.
C. To explain female is cleverer than male.
D. To help boys and girls work hand in hand.

42.What does the second “it” refer to in the second paragraph?
A. Females performed better than men in timed tests and tasks.
B. Assigning work and tests.
C. Overall intelligence.
D. Females performed better than men.

认真阅读分析该词所在句子可知,“females performed better than men in time limited situations”为该词的背景信息,由此不难推出正确答案。

43.The female’s better performance ability in timed tests is _________.
A. developed in the life
B. promoted by teaching
C. born
D. affected by meals

44.What is true according to the passage?
A. The males score lower than females in timed tests.
B. Males perform better than females in all language abilities.
C. Girls develop all communication skills earlier than boys.
D. There are obvious intelligence differences between males and females.

原文第四段首句表明A正确,原文第四段中“However, the study also found that males consistently(一贯地)outperformed females in some language abilities, such as identifying objects and knowing antonyms(反义词)and synonyms(同义词)”,表明B错误,原文第四段末句表明C错误,原文第五段内容表明D错误。
