A
For about a decade, I knew that I needed to imp rove my handwriting, but I always put it off. “My typing skills are good, my communication skills are good, and all my other abilities are adequate for the job I do and the life I live. Why would I need to improve my handwriting in such a modern world?” I thought.
I was sort of hit by the fact that my handwriting needed improving quite suddenly in the form of a note from my boss. Obviously one of the notes I had posted on the office message board had been misunderstood because of my handwriting. My boss demanded that I learn to write in a neat way, something I couldn’t ignore any longer.
I tried a lot of different methods to improve my handwriting. Nowadays, there are more resources than before. You don’t even have to go to the store and can buy handw riting training materials online. I tried out a lot of these, and my handwriting did improve somewhat. Now I make sure I form every letter correctly. This is inconvenient and time-consuming, but it is better than having my comments misread.
People come up to me and tell me how nice my handwriting is. I have never thought of that, but this is
exactly what has happened. It really is a pleasure, but it isn’t enough. In the long run, I actually have to go to a handwriting coach to improve my handwriting. It seems like I have years and years of bad habits that I have to break, and this isn’t something I could handle on my own. I need someone to teach me how to write clearly from the ground up.

A. he had planned for that for a long time
B. he was shocked by his boss’ good handwriting

58. How did the writer try to improve his handwriting?
A. He joined a handwriting training class.
B. He practiced writing and typing at the same time.
C. He practiced writing mainly on his own.
D. He employed a coach to teach him online.
59. What does the writer think of his handwriting at present?
A. Better.
B. Perfect.
C. Worse.
D. Unacceptable.

You are from a middle- class family, and live in a normal-size home without any showy possessions, but you are surrounded by surprising consumption(消费). This contrast is beginning to bother your 6-year-old son. You are worried that he will want to live as they do, and wonder if you should move.
Sometimes big pocket money, joyful birthday parties, special playrooms and super-big houses tell you that your neighbors probably have more money than you do, and that they’re not as careful as you are with money, but you may find that they cook and dig in the garden with their children just as often as you do, talk with them as freely and read to them every night.
Or you may find that some of these parents stay in one wing of their big house while their child plays by himself, way off in a wing of his own. In that unfortunate case, he is basically growing up alone without being looked after properly, but this can happen to a child who lives in a normal-size house, too, if he has a TV, a computer and a few video games in his room. Even the most caring parent doesn’t walk in and out of it to see what show her child is watching, what Internet site he has found and if he’s still playing that video game.
Too much uncontrolled screen time may lead to a certain loss of innocence(天真),but mostly this child will lose the sense of u nity and satisfaction, and if it doesn’t , you might decide to move. Don’t judge your neighborhood too harshly(严厉地),though. There are some things that are right with almost any neighborhood and some things that are wrong with the best of them—like those super-big houses.
The wealth of their owners—and the way they throw money around—may make your son feel sorry for himself, unless you help him understand that you and his dad save some of the money, give some to people who don’t have enough and use the rest to pay for whatever the family needs.
Children want—should be provided with—explanations when their parents don’t give them what they want.
64. What is the problem with the worried parent in the text?
A. Her house isn’t as big as her rich neighbors’
B. Her son is left alone without anyone in charge.
C. She worries about the effect of her neighbors on her son.
D. She cannot provide her son with a special playroom.
65. In Paragraphs 2and 3, the author seems to agree that parents should____.
A. give their children more freedom
B. spend more time with their children
C. work hard to lead a richer life
D. set an example for their children to follow
66. By saying “throw money around”(Paragraph 5),the author means that rich people___.
A. save money for their children
B. spend money carelessly
C. help the poor people willingly
D. leave money all round the house
67. What is the main idea the author aims to express in the text?
A. Children are unfortunate to have poor parents.
B. Children should enjoy their comfortable life.
C. Children feel ashamed of themselves in a rich neighborhood.
D. Children need proper guidance from their parents.

Celebrity has become one of the most important representatives of popular culture.Fans used to be crazy about a specific film, but now the public tends to base its consumption on the interest of celebrity attached to any given product.Besides, fashion magazines have almost abandoned the practice of putting models on the cover because they don’t sell nearly as well as famous faces. As a result, celebrities have realized their unbelievably powerful market potential, moving from advertising for others’ products to developing their own.
Celebrity clothing lines aren’t a completely new phenomenon, but in the past they were typically aimed at the ordinary consumers, and limited to a few TV actresses.Today they’re started by first-class stars whose products enjoy equal fame with some world top brands. The most successful start-ups have been those by celebrities with specific personal style. As celebrities become more and more experienced at the market, they expand their production scale rapidly, covering almost all the poducts of daily life.
However, for every success story, there’s a related warning tale of a cele brity who overvalued his consumer appeal. No matter how famous the product’s origin is,if it fails to impress consumers with its own qualities it begins to resemble an exercise in self-promotional marketing. And once the initial(最初的) attention dies down, consumer interest might fade, loyalty , returning to tried-and-true labels.
Today, celebrities face even more severe embarrassment. The pop-cultural circle might be bigger than ever, but its rate of turnover has speeded up as well. Each misstep threatens to reduc e a celebrity’s shelf life, and the same newspaper or magazine that once brought him fame has no problem picking him to pieces when the opportunity appears.Still, the ego’s(自我的) potential for expansion is limitless. Having already achieved great wealth and public recognition, many celebrities see fashion as the next frontier to be conquered. As the saying goes, success and failure always go hand in hand.Their success as designers might last only a short time, but fashion—like celebrity—has always been temporary.
72.Fashion magazines today _______________.
A.no longer put models on the cover
B.seldom put models on the cover
C.need not worry about celebrities’market potential
D.judge the market potential of every celebrity correctly
73.A change in the consumer market can be found today that ________________.
A.price rather than brand name is more concerned
B.producers prefer models to celebrities for advertisements
C.quality rather than the outside of products is more concerned
D.producers prefer TV actresses to film stars for advertisements
74.The underlined sentence in Paragraph 4 indicates that any wrong step will possibly ___________ .
A.decrease the popularity of a celebrity and the sales of his products
B.damage the image of a celebrity in the eyes of the general public
C.cut short the artistic career of a celebrity in show business
D.influence the price of a celebrity’s products
75.The passage is mainly about ______________.

Possible Version 1
“Should Senior High School Students Help Parents With Household Chores?” Different students have different views.
As for me, I am strongly in favor of students helping parents with chores. Here are the reasons. Firstly, it can reduce the burden over our parents and it is clearly a form of expressing thanks to them. As is known to us all, our parents are busy with their work to bring us up. They are filled with pressure. If we help them do some chores such as cleaning up rooms, polishing furniture, washing clothes, cooking meals, etc. they will have more time to relax themselves. We are being instructed to be thankful to parents, Surely enough, it is one of the best ways. What’s better, by doing chores, we can be increasingly aware of the necessity of labor and gradually improve the ability of independence. Most importantly , by doing it, we may adjust our mind, forgetting about our homework for the moment and thus improving our learning.
That’s all. Thank you!
Possible Version 2
“Should Senior High School Students Help Parents With Household Chores?” Different students have different views.
In my standpoint, I am against us students helping parents with house chores for the following reasons. In the first place, household chores are dull, which bore us to death. As we know, we students are busy with lessons from Monday to Friday. We may feel bored. To adjust our boring school life, at home, we tend to seek for something much fun to cheer ourselves up. Boring chores may have a negative effect on our mood. Worst still, doing chores can affect our learning.
