关于继续深造还是工作的英语作文
To Study More or Start Working? My Big Decision
Hi there! My name is Timmy and I'm a 5th grader at Oakville Elementary School. I'm writing this essay to share my thoughts on a very important decision I'll need to make soon - should I continue my studies after finishing elementary school, or should I start working? It's a really tough choice and I've been thinking a lot about the pros and cons of each option.
On one hand, continuing to study seems like the smart thing to do. My parents and teachers always tell me that getting a good education is the key to success in life. They say that by going to middle school, high school, and maybe even college or university, I'll learn so many valuable skills and gain lots of knowledge that will help me get a great job when I'm older. I really enjoy learning new things every day at school, so the idea of keeping on studying for many more years is quite exciting!
However, my older cousin Jimmy recently dropped out of high school to start working full-time at a construction company. He got hired as an apprentice and is now learning all about building houses, operating big machines, and other cool construction stuff. Jimmy tells me he's making decent money
and doesn't have to worry about homework or tests anymore. Part of me wonders if I should follow in his footsteps and start earning my own paycheck sooner rather than later. Having my own income would be pretty awesome!
Then again, the jobs I could get without finishing school probably wouldn't be my dream job. I've always wanted to be a video game designer when I grow up. Creating the latest and greatest games that all my friends and I would absolutely love to play sounds like the best job ever! But from what I've researched, becoming a video game designer requires a lot of advanced programming, graphic design, and other computer skills that I would need to study for years to properly learn. So if I want to make video games for a living, it seems like continuing my education is crucial.
Money is another factor I have to consider. My parents cover all my basic needs like food, clothes, and a roof over my head right now. But what happens when I'm an adult and have to pay for those things myself, plus other big expenses like a car, house, and raising a family someday? Jobs that don't require higher education tend to pay less, from what I've heard. So if I start working at a younger age instead of studying more, will I be able to afford the kind of lifestyle I want later on? Larger salaries seem
to go to people with fancier degrees and more credentials. Getting those could mean taking on heavy student debt though, which is definitely not ideal.
Speaking of debt, my older brother Brian is still paying off his student loans from university even though he graduated five years ago. He complains about it all the time! That's one of the biggest downsides I can see to pursuing more education after high school. The costs of tuition, textbooks, and living expenses for several more years of schooling are no joke. I'm honestly a little scared of ending up in a mountain of debt like Brian before I've even had a chance to build my career and savings. No thanks!
On the other hand, maybe taking out some loans for further education would be worth it in the long run if it leads to me getting hired for a dream job that pays really well. Or what if I'm able to secure scholarships that cover most of the costs? That would be the best of both worlds - getting an advanced degree without bankrupting myself or my family. Brian did say the hardest part of his loans was having to pay them back with the relatively low salary he was making in his first job out of school. Maybe things wouldn't be so bad if I'm smart about choosing an
affordable program and career path with plenty of well-paying job opportunities after graduating.
There's also the question of what each option means for my lifestyle over the next decade or so. If I start working soon after finishing elementary school, I could have a lot of independence and freedom at a younger age than most people. No MORE pesky homework or waking up early for school every day! I'd be bringing in a regular paycheck to spend how I wish. Wouldn't it be awesome to move out on my own, decorate my own place, and not have to follow my parents' rules anymore? That all sounds unbelievably glamorous to my 11-year-old self.
However, the school environment and being around my friends every day is also pretty fun. Giving that all up for the "real world" before I've even hit puberty seems like it could be a mistake. Maybe I'd end up missing out on major parts of just being a kid if I rush into working full-time too quickly. Summer vacations, sleepovers, playing sports and games with my buddies - would I have any time for that kind of stuff if I have a serious job? Sure, work-life balance exists, but I'm still just a child! Do I really want to act like a full-fledged adult before I'm even a teenager? Part of me wants to savor what's left of my childhood
for as long as possible before taking on that level of responsibility.
Gosh, this is an incredibly difficult decision with so many factors to juggle! Continuing my studies seems like it will open the most doors for the type of career I want. But working right away could allow me to start building wealth and independence sooner. Then there's the whole issue of costs, debts, and living situations to think about. How will I achieve the right balance between pursuing my passions, making enough money, and still having some fun during my youth? There are pros and cons to each path that make me keep going back and forth.
Well, I still have a couple more years before I absolutely have to decide. For now, I'll stay focused on working hard in my classes and trying my best. Maybe once I get to middle school and learn more about different careers, the right choice for me will become more clear. I'll continue discussing it with my family, teachers, and career counselors too. Whichever route I go, I'm determined to make the smartest decision that will lead me to being truly happy and successful in life. Wish me luck!。
