15、Dear Reader,
Imagine an 11-year-old child whose days are often spent washing clothes, looking after a baby, working hard in the fields.
Imagine a little girl who knows there will not be enough food for dinner, who can't fill her stomach with water because it's polluted ,and who has watched life slip away(消失) from her father, little brother and sister because the family is too poor to see a doctor.
Is it hard to believe? For Maria Pastora, these are the real life.
Maria would gladly walk miles to school, but her mother ,now alone, needs her badly at home .Chances are Maria
will grow up without any schooling .What will be her future? In many ways, it will be disastrous(灾难性的).
But for just 52pennies a day ,you can sponsor(资助) a child like Maria. Show her that somewhere, someone cares about her. Through “ Save the Children”, you can help Maria's mother get the tools and ways she needs to turn their poor food into a good dinner and get the money she needs to buy clothes and school things for Maria.
To help Maria most, your money is put together with that of other sponsors, so hard-working people can help themselves. Build a school, a hospital, bring in clean water .This is what “Save the Children” has been about since 1932.
For you there are many rewards. Have the chance to write to or hear from your sponsored child. Receive photos or progress reports. Knowing that you are reaching out to another person. Not with a handout, but a hand up. That's how “Save the Children” works. But without you, it can't work. There are a lot of interesting things living in the sea. There are many types of fish and many other animals. There are also many types of plants. There are even some animals which have a lot in common with you. They are mammals living in the sea. How much do you know about creatures that live in the sea? Do you want to know more about the food chain(链)in the sea?
In the sea, all sea creatures get food from other sea creatures. At the first link of the food chain are the sea plants and plankton (浮游生物). Plants are found only in the sunlight zone where there is enough light for them, however, animals are found at all depths of the oceans though their numbers are greater near the surface where food is enough. Many kinds of fish and animals, such as the snail, shrimp, jellyfish, and sea star eat the plankton. The small animals and fish that eat plankton then become food for larger fish, such as the tuna and mackerel. These fish are then eaten by larger fish and animals, such as the shark and dolphin. The shark and dolphin are at the top of the food chain in the sea. Sharks are very dangerous so many people are eaten by them in the sea. But why the number of the shark is becoming smaller and smaller? And who eats the shark? Check out the menu at a seafood restaurant next time you are eating there. Don't be surprised if you find shark on the menu.

18、These days the subject of security(安全) on campus is talked about quite often. Some students' mobile phones are stolen, some students fight with and hurt one another, and others are knocked down by the fast running motorbikes or cars.

19、Nowadays, smartphones are popular among students. Should they be allowed to use smartphones at school or not? Our students have different opinions.
Some students think they can use smartphones at school. First, it’s convenient for them to call their parents, teachers or friends when they have problems. Second, they can search what they need on smartphones. For example, they can look up new words and look through news.
However, some students disagree. They think using smartphones at school is a waste of time. Many students spend too much time on games and QQ. It does harm to students’ study. And it’s unhealthy for the mind and the body.
In my opinion, students can’t use smartphones at school. Students should spend more time doing sports or having fun with friends. They should also pay more attention to their study. If they do, they’ll be happier and healthier.。
