4 Metamorphic rocks
1 Minerals
A mineral is a naturally occurring, inorganic, crystalline solid that has a specific chemical composition. “Naturally occurring” tells that a mineral is naturally formed in geological processes. Synthetic quartz, similar as natural quartz, is not a true mineral because it is formed artificially. “Inorganic” means that a mineral cannot be the complex hydrocarbon molecules. “Crystalline solid” shows a mineral can only be the solid, and it has a regular and three-dimensional repeating pattern arranged by its atoms, ions, or molecules. A mineral has a specific chemical composition clearly showing its elements and chemical proportion generally described by a chemical formula.
