The Flawed Perfection of a WifeIn the realm of societal expectations, the concept of a "perfect wife" often looms large, painting a picture of a woman who is not just beautiful but also intelligent, domesticated, and devoted to her husband and family. This stereotype, however, is not just outdated but also dangerously limiting, as it ignores the vast array of human complexities and individualities that make each woman unique. The first fallacy of the perfect wife narrative is its narrow definition of what it means to be a wife. It assumes that a woman's primary role is to please her husband and fulfill his every need, often at the cost of her own wants and desires. This mindset disregards the fact that a wife is also an individual with her own dreams, ambitions, and passions. She deserves to pursue her own interests and goals, rather than being confined to the role of a servant or a companion. Moreover, the perfect wife stereotype often overlooks the importance of mental and emotional health. A wife is not just a physical presence in her husband's life but alsoa source of emotional support and companionship. She should be allowed to express her thoughts and feelings freely, rather than being expected to suppress them for the sake of maintaining a perfect facade.Furthermore, the perfect wife narrative often glosses over the reality of domestic violence and abuse. It assumes that a wife should always submit to her husband's wishes, even if they are harmful or detrimental to her well-being. This attitude not only perpetuates the cycle of abuse but also denies women their right to safety and dignity.Additionally, the perfect wife stereotype is often tied to the concept of physical perfection. It expects women to maintain a certain appearance, regardless of their age, body type, or personal preferences. This pressure not only leads to unhealthy body image issues but also discourages women from embracing their natural beauty and uniqueness. In conclusion, the pursuit of a perfect wife is notonly unachievable but also counterproductive. It ignores the vast array of human complexities and individualities that make each woman unique. Instead, we should celebrate the diverse roles and contributions that women make insociety, recognizing that each woman has her own unique strengths and talents. A wife should be viewed as an equal partner in marriage, rather than as a mere reflection ofher husband's ideals or expectations.

Now, Miss Amelia Sedley was a young lady of this singular species; and deserved not only all that Miss Pinkerton said in her praise, but had many charming qualities which that pompous old Minerva of a woman could not see, from the differences of rank and age between her pupil and herself. 问题补充:英文英文~~~最佳答案(以下内容转载他处,楼主请参考以下链接)Book SummaryAmelia Sedley, of good family, and Rebecca Sharp, an orphan, leave Miss Pinkerton's academy on Chiswick Mall to live out their lives in Vanity Fair —the world of social climbing and search for wealth. Amelia does not esteem the values of Vanity Fair; Rebecca cares for nothing else.Rebecca first attempts to enter the sacred domain of Vanity Fair by inducing Joseph Sedley, Amelia's brother, to marry her. George Osborne, however, foils this plan; he intends to marry Amelia and does not want a governess for a sister-in-law. Rebecca takes a position as governess at Queen's Crawley, and marries Rawdon Crawley, second son of Sir Pitt Crawley. Because of his marriage, Rawdon's rich aunt disinherits him.First introduced as a friend of George Osborne, William Dobbin becomes the instrument for getting George to marry Amelia, after George's father has forbidden the marriage on account of the Sedley's loss of fortune. Because of George's marriage, old Osborne disinherits him. Both young couples endeavor to live without sufficient funds. George dies at Waterloo. Amelia would have starved but for William Dobbin's anonymous contribution to her welfare. Joseph goes back to his post in India, claiming such valor at Waterloo that he earns the nickname "Waterloo Sedley." Actually he fled at the sound of the cannon. Both Rebecca and Amelia give birth to sons.Rebecca claims she will make Rawdon's fortune, but actually she hides much of her loot, obtained from admiring gentlemen. When she becomes the favorite of the great Lord Steyne, she accumulates both money and diamonds. In the meantime innocent Rawdon draws closer to Lady Jane, wife of Rawdon's older brother, Pitt, who has inherited from the rich aunt. When Rawdon discovers Rebecca in her treachery, he is convinced that money means more to her than he or the son whom she has always hated. He refuses to see her again and takes a post in Coventry Island, where he dies of yellow fever.Because her parents are starving and she can neither provide for them nor give little Georgy what she thinks he needs, Amelia gives up her son to his grandfather Osborne. William Dobbin comes back from the service, reconciles old Osborne to Amelia, whereat Osborne makes a will leaving Georgy half of his fortune and providing for Amelia.Rebecca, having lost the respectability of a husband, wanders in Europe for a couple of years and finally meets Joseph, Georgy, Amelia, and William on the Continent. Rebecca sets about to finish what she started to do at the first of the book — that is, to ensnare Joseph. She does not marry him, but she takes allhis money and he dies in terror of her, the implication being that she has, at least, hastened his death. At the end of the book Rebecca has the money necessary to live in Vanity Fair; she appears to be respectable. William has won Amelia. Rebecca has been the one who jolted Amelia into recognition that George, her first love, wasn't worthy.Little Rawdon, upon the death of his uncle Pitt and his cousin Pitt, becomes the heir of Queen's Crawley. Little George, through the kindness of Dobbin, has lost his distorted values obtained in Vanity Fair. The reader feels that these young persons of the third generation will be better people than their predecessors in Vanity Fair.

(A Perfect Wife)
做一个完美的妻子(A Perfect Wife)做一个完美的妻子(A Perfect Wife)做一个完美的妻子(A Perfect Wife) 做一个完美的妻子(A Perfect Wife)After thirty years of married happiness, he could still remind himself that Victoria was endowed with every charm except the thrilling touch of human frailty. Though her perfection discouraged pleasures, especially the pleasures of love, he had learned in time to feel the pride of a husband in her natural frigidity. For he still clung, amid the decay of moral platitudes, to the discredited ideal of chivalry. In his youth the world was suffused with the after-glow of the long Victorian age, and a graceful feminine style had softened the manners, if not the natures, of men. At the end of that interesting epoch, when womanhood was exalted from a biological fact into a miraculous power, Virginius Littlepage, the younger son of an old and affluent family, had married Victoria Brooke, the grand-daughter of a tobacco planter, who had made a satisfactory fortune by forsaking his plantation and converting tobacco into cigarettes. While Virginius had been trained by stern tradition to respect every woman who had not stoopedto folly, the virtue peculiar to her sex was among the least of his reasons for admiring Victoria. She was not only modest, which was usual in the neties, but she was beautiful, which is unusual in any decade. In the beginning of their acquaintance he had gone even further and ascribed intellect to her; but a few months of marriage had shown this to be merely one of the many delusions created by perfect features and noble expression. Everything about her had been smooth and definite, even the tones of her voice and the way her light brown hair, which she wore ?la Pompadour, was rolled stiffly back from her forehead and coiled in a burnished rope on the top of her head. A serious young man, ambitious to attain a place in the world more brilliant than the secluded seat of his ancestors, he had been impressed at their first meeting by the compactness and precision of Victoria's orderly mind. For in that earnest period the minds, as well as the emotions, of lovers were orderly. It was an age when eager young men flocked to church on Sunday morning, and eloquent divines discoursed upon the Victorian poets in the middle of the week. He could afford to smile now when he recalled the solemn Browning class in which he had first lost his heart. How passionately he had admired Victoria's virginal features! Howfervently he had envied her competent but caressing way with the poet! Incredible as it seemed to him now, he had fallen in love with her while she recited from the more ponderous passages in The Ring and the Book. He had fallen in love with her then, though he had never really enjoyed Browning, and it had been a relief to him when the Unseen, in company with its illustrious poet, had at last gone out of fashion. Yet, since he was disposed to admire all the qualities he did not possess, he had never ceased to respect the firmness with which Victoria continued to deal in other forms with the Absolute. As the placid years passed, and she came to rely less upon her virginal features, it seemed to him that the ripe opinions of her youth began to shrink and flatten as fruit does that has hung too long on the tree. She had never changed, he realized, since he had first known her; she had become merely riper, softer, and sweeter in nature. Her advantage rested where advantage never fails to rest, in moral fervour. To be invariably right was her single wifely failing. For his wife, he sighed, with the vague unrest of a husband whose infidelities are imaginary, was a genuinely good woman. She was as far removed from pretence as she was from the posturing virtues that flourish in the credulous world of the drama. The pity of it was that eventhe least exacting husband should so often desire something more piquant than goodness.
In our contemporary society, the concept of an "ideal wife" remains a contentious topic, eliciting diverse perspectives and opinions. While some subscribe to the traditional view of a wife as a domestic caretaker and nurturer, others challenge this outdated stereotype, advocating for a more equitable and progressive understanding of gender roles. In this essay, I will deconstruct the premise of a "perfect wife" and argue that such an ideal is both unrealistic and detrimental to the well-being of individuals and relationships.Firstly, the notion of a "perfect wife" perpetuates narrow and unrealistic expectations of women. It implies that there is a single, fixed set of qualities and behaviors that define an ideal wife, which is both unattainable and unfair. This narrow definition often emphasizes domestic skills and subservience, overlookingthe multifaceted nature of individuals and the diversity of women's roles and aspirations. By setting such high and arbitrary standards, we risk alienating and belittling women who do not conform to this limited ideal.Secondly, this concept reinforces gender stereotypes and inequality. It suggests that women's primary role is to serve and cater to the needs of others, particularly their spouses. This perpetuates the traditional gender division of labor, where women are primarily responsible for domestic tasks and childcare while men are primarily responsible for breadwinning. Such a rigid division of roles not only limits women's opportunities and autonomy but also reinforces the idea that women's worth is tied to their ability to fulfill domestic duties. Moreover, the pursuit of an idealized "perfect wife" can be harmful to both individuals and relationships. For women, it can lead to feelings of inadequacy, self-doubt, and pressure to conform to societal expectations. It can also discourage them from pursuing their own interests and goals outside the domestic sphere. For men, it can fosteran unhealthy sense of entitlement and dependency, as they may come to expect their wives to fulfill all their needs and desires without reciprocity. In conclusion, the concept of an "ideal wife" is a flawed and outdated construct that perpetrates unrealistic expectations, reinforces gender inequality, and undermines the well-being of individuals and relationships. It is time to challenge this narrow definition and embrace a more equitable and progressive understanding of gender roles. True partnership and equality in relationships should be based on mutual respect, shared responsibilities, and the freedom for individuals to pursue their own unique aspirations and identities.

The Good Wife – an overview
The Good Wife is an American television series set around a law firm. Alicia Florrick has returned to work as a lawyer for the law firm Stern, Lockhart & Gardner after being a housewife for some years. Alicia Florrick has returned to work, because her husband has been sent to jail. Alicia Florrick has a family to support and so needs a regular income to support her family. Alicia Florrick has two young children, Zachary and Grace.
Alicia Florrick’s husband Peter Florrick worked as Cook County State’s Attorney, but was found guilty of corruption and was subsequently send to prison. He consistently denies his guilt and is later found not guilty on appeal. Eli Gold works as Peter’s campaign manager and helps him become
re-elected as state’s attorney. However, the court case that led to his temporary incarceration revealed that he had had extra marital affairs with prostitutes, which his wife struggles to forgive him for. Perhaps for this reason, Alicia Florrick becomes romantically interested in Will Gardner, who is one of the partners in the law firm. Will Gardner is handsome, intelligent and a very capable lawyer. He is not married and has occasional girlfriends.
There are many people who also work for the law firm Stern, Lockhart & Gardner including lawyers, private investigators, and administrators. Occasionally, experts are hired by the firm to provide necessary evidence for specific court cases. Some of the lawyers are ‘partners’ in the law firm who make the major decisions on what the law firm should do, which case to take and so forth. Diane Lockhart for example is one of the partners. Kalinda Sharma and Blake Calamar are private investigators who carry out detailed investigations to provide the necessary evidence when a trial goes to court, and because of this are often in a position of power as they delve into people’s lives. Occasionally we get to see rival lawyers who oppose Stern, Lockhart & Gardner, such as Louis Canning, played my Michael J. Fox, who, though disabled, uses all the trickery he can muster to outsmart his opponents. Canning’s job is deceptively to limit the damage companies are exposed to, which Alicia doesn’t quite grasp at first.
Glenn Childs is Peter’s rival for the job of state’s attorney, which gives the stor y an array of twists and turns and the usual political machinations. Glenn Child’s character provides the link between the legal world and the world of politics, which is also intertwined with money and the world of business.
The Good Wife shows that professional lawyers represent their clients to the best of their abilities, and the abilities exhibited are among the best there is. Lawyers are well versed in law, very intelligent, very capable and court wise. The Good Wife offers fast-paced viewing with language used with the upmost skill and precision.
