晋江市南湾中学第一届说课比赛英语组洪贵全Unit 2 Keeping healthyTopic1 You’d better go to see a doctor.Section APart 1 Analyzing of the teaching material and the studentsAnalyzing of the teaching material:As we know, Unit 2 is about health, which is very close to our daily life, and this topic of this unit is about how to express the uncomfortable feelings of our body and how to give advice. The lesson I chose is the first lesson of this topic in this unit. It begins with Kangkang’s toothache and then lead to the advice Betty gives. Besides these, it concentrates on presenting some new words of illnesses and some related suggestions. In this lesson, students will learn a lot about health and what to do when they are in bad conditions. At the same time, they will learn a lot of useful communicating expressions. We all clearly know that the main instructional aims of learning English in middle schools are to cultivate students’basic abilities of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Each topic is made up of several parts that have different functions in language learning. The part I picked up today is aimed at practicing communicating in English. As a matter of fact, it does not only focus on speaking, but listening, reading and writing will also be trained in it.Analyzing of the students:Based on a year of junior high school English study, most of the students are more confident in learning English than before. They are trying to get used to learning English through various activities step by step, such as role-play, games, pair or group work, work alone and so on. So here we need to try our best to encourage them as possible as we can. But there still are some students whose English are not good enough to finish some of the tasks. So we need to cheer them on and give them more extra time to practice or design the task easier than usual and so on.Part 2 teaching aims and demandsKnowledge aims:1. Enable the students to master the new words and phrases:a cold, a fever, a cough, the flu, a headache, sore eyes,a toothache, a backache, a stomachache, have a cold, go to see a doctor, lift heavy things, drinklots of boiled water, take a rest…2. Enable the students to master some useful expressions:(1) What’s wrong/ the matter with you? --I have…..(2) I’m sorry to hear that.(3) I hope you’ll be well soon.In this period, I will make the students know the words about illnesses and tell them something such as the flu and sore eyes should be paid great attention to. And I will also enable the students to remember the new words more easily through the games. What’s more, learning some useful expressions will play an important part in this lesson.Ability aims:1.To learn how to talk about illnesses.2.To learn how to give advice.3.To develop the students’ abilities of speaking, listening, reading and writing.4.To develop the students’ skills of communication in English.Moral aims:1. To strengthen the students’ interests in participating in various English activities actively.2. To motivate their willing to communicate with others in English and practice their communicating skills.3. Helping the students to foster their emotional attitudes of understanding other people, caring for others and being helpful.Teaching aid:The multi-media computer, the recorder and other aid s to arouse students’ interest in learning. Teaching method:In this lesson, I will mainly used ―Task-based‖ teaching method and the situation teaching method. The key and difficult points in this lesson:1. Enable the students to have a perfect command of the sentence patterns about giving advice.2. Enable the students to transform the language knowledge into the ability to express themselves and to communicate in English in the tasks.Part 3 Teaching Procedure:Step 1 Revision1. Free talk about their favorite sports and the school sports meeting which was held last week. First,I will present some pictures of the school sports meeting on the screen and I will make dialogs with the students to review the target sentences in Unit 1. The task will be finished like this:T: Good morning, boys and girls. Do you still remember the school sports meeting last week ? It was a wonderful school sports meeting. Now I want to know who took part in the games? Did you take part in the school sports meeting last week,S1?S1: Yes, I did./ No, I didn’t.T: Which sport did you take part in?S1: I took part in …..T: Do you like it?S1: Yes, I do. / No, I don’t.T: What’s your favorite sport?S1: My favorite sport is …T: How often do you do it?S1: Every day./twice a week/…T: Why do you like it?S1: Because….T: Who’s your favorite player?S1: ….Several students will have the chance to talk about their favorite sports by this way.Purpose: I try to form a comfortable and easy English learning surrounding for the students in order to motivate their interests of speaking and the new lesson. Also we can lead to the new lesson more fluently by using the pictures.Step 2 Presentation and Consolidation1. Lead-in: I will present a picture of one of the students who were sick during the 1500—meter--race. And then I will raise the question:T: Look! Yinong put his hands on his stomach and looked pale. What’s wrong with him? Do you know? He has a stomachache. (T writes down stomachache on the blackboard) You know, Stomachache is a kind of illness.Next I will present more pictures in Section A 2.T: What’s wrong with them? What kind of illnesses do they get? Today we will talk about illnesses and how to give advice. Then we will learn the new words together.2. In this step, I will present the target sentences by using the pictures in Section A 2:T: Now suppose you are the girl/boy in the picture,---What’s wrong/the matter with you? ---I have …..3. Play a game. After step 2, students are becoming familiar with the words and sentence patterns. I will take out a box in which I put some word cards about the illnesses that were prepared before class. In this period, some students will volunteer to choose one of the word cards and then act it out. Other students try to guess and answer my questions.T: What’s wrong/ the matter with him/her?S2: He/She has…..partners.4. After the game, the picture in 1a will be presented on the screen.T: Look at the picture. Do you know who the boy is?Ss: He is Kangkang.T: He looks painful. What’s wrong with him? Let’s watch the video and answer the question below: (1) What’s wrong with Kangkang? ----He has a toothache.Students watch the video and answer the question.5.Listen to 1a again. While reading after the tape, students will find out the answer to the secondquestion that I presented on the screen.(2) What should he do? ----He should see a dentist. After several minutes for preparation, Ss act 1a out.T: Now open your books and turn to page 25. Let’s read the dialogue and find out what Kangkang should do.After reading, the students answer the question.T: Now I will give you several minutes to prepare to act out 1a.Purpose: In order to have students understand the new words and the target sentences and have a good command of it, PPT will also be needed and play a important part in this step. Students will master the words and sentences easier after the task.Step 3 Practice1.Work alone. Learn more advice in 3a. And then check the answers.2.By using the sentences in 3a and 1b, students make conversations with their partners.T: You really did a good job! Excellent performance! Now you know that when we have a toothache, what should we do?Ss: We should go to see a dentist.T: Then, what should we do when we have a headache or a backache? Now please finish 3a and find out what we should do when we have such illnesses. After the students finish it, I will check the answers. And then ask the students to make dialogues with their partners according to the examples in 1b.Purpose: To help the students know well about giving advice and the usage of ―should‖ and help them be familiar with it.Step 4 Summarize and Project1. Summarize what we have learned today and point out the usage of ―should‖ and the useful sentence patterns on the blackboard.2. I will set a situation in this step and let it be a role-play to test what and how students learn from this lesson.T: Suppose it’s a doctor’s office, a patient comes to see a doctor. What will they talk about? Try to imagine. Prepare for the role- play according to 1b and 3a. After that other students will choose who the best doctor is.Purpose: To help the students be able to transform what they have learned into the abilities of express themselves and to communicate in English under these conditions.Step 5 Homework1. Make conversations after the example of 1b, write down and hand in tomorrow morning.Purpose: It’s necessary for them to do some writing exercise to consolidate what they have learnt in the class.P.S. Part 4 in Section A isn’t included in my teaching plan, because I make it a revision part and lead-in for the next lesson.Design of blackboardUnit Two Topic OneYou ’d better go to see a doctor.Illnesses: a cold, a fever, a cough, the flu, a headache, sore eyes,a toothache, a backache, a stomachache,Phrases: have a cold, go to see a doctor, lift heavy things, drink lots of boiled water, take a rest 1. ---What’s wrong/ the matter with you? -- I have a cold/ a fever/….2. ---What’s wrong/ the matter with him/her? –He/She has the flu/ sore eyes/….3. You should go to see a doctor. should do sth.Step 6 EvaluationExplanation for EvaluationI divide the students into 12 groups, four students each group. They will compete with other groups.
