高二英语 Unit18 Mainly revision
一、教学目标与要求
通过本单元教学,学生重点复习第13至17单元中所出现的语法项目和日常交际用语,并能熟练地运用到模拟的交际情景中;教师要重视学生笔头能力的落实。

通过对阅读课文的学习,要求学生任选其中一个进行复述;在第69课的教学过程中,让学生了解英语中的一些小幽默,体会其中的幽默感;正确完成练习册安排的练习。

二、教学重点与难点

(一)对话课
Ⅰ.教具录音机、投影仪。

Ⅱ.课堂教学设计
1.教师通过以下步骤导入本课:We all know that jokes are funny and they can make people laugh.Do you enjoy jokes?There are lots of jokes in the English language.When you read these jokes or listen to other people telling you the jokes,you are not only amused by the jokes but can learn the language as well.Now let me tell you one first.It is said that one day a radio station broadcast a piece of news,asking the housewives in the town to offer things they don’t need to the poor people.And the radio station also told the housewives where to put their things,saying that some young men would be there to col-lect them.The next day,however,to everyone’s surprise,many housewives brought with them their husbands.
2.学生打开书,自己阅读本课所提供的小笑话。

之后放录音一至两遍,让学生感受一下外藉教师对小笑话在朗读上所做的处理,以便使学生更好地理解其幽默之处。

给学生数分钟时间。

要求学生用英语解释每个笑话的幽默所在。

学生可以讨论、交流。

Key for reference:
1)教师先提出一个问题:What does the customer mean by asking the question?
(The customer probably means why the fly is there,in his soup.How can he drink his soup with the fly in it?)
But the waiter seems to be absent-minded by answering“Swimming,I think.”
2)教师再提出一个问题:Why do you think the customer ask this question?
(Probably the customer thinks that the soup has gone bad.)
This joke is a good example to explain“play on words”.When the waiter says“It’s bean soup”,the customer thinks that he is saying“It’s been soup”.That’s where the hu-mour is.
3)教师继续提出问题:Can you ask the customer’s question in another way?
(Waiter,will it be long before I get the pancakes?)
This joke is another good example of“play on words”.When the waiter hears the ques-tion he probably thinks that the customer is inquiring the shape of the pancake.3.再次放对话录音,学生跟读,并继续下面的小笑话。

将学生分为两人一组练习。

数分钟后,请若干组同学到前面表演。

全班评判,选出最佳表演小组。

4.教师向学生介绍其他英语小幽默,并由学生体会这些笑话的幽默所在。

A professor is talking with his one of his students:
1)Professor:You missed my class yesterday,didn’t you?
Student:Not in the least,sir,not in the least.
2)Professor:Wake up that student next to you.

A teacher is talking with her students:

A professor is talking with his wife:
1)Wife:Why didn’t you put the cat out as I told you?

Ⅱ.课堂教学设计
1.检查生词及短语。

2.教师向学生提出以下问题: 1) Do yon like travelling?2)How would you like to travel,by train, by bus, or by air? Please give reasons.3)Do you think children can go travelling by themselves?Why/Why not?4) What should children do if they happen to be lost?
3.准备阅读课文,教师给出读前提问:1)Where were Hank and his children going?2) How did Hank manage to inform the railway official and asked him to help his children?
教师给学生数分钟,要求学生快速阅读课文,之后请同学回答上述问题。

Key:1)Hank was on vacation and together with his two children they were travelling to Bonn.2)Hank managed to send a telephone message to the railway official and asked him to help his children.
4.放课文录音,学生跟读一至两遍。

教师用投影仪打出以下statements,要求学生判断其正误,并对错误的statements进行修改。

1)At the beginning of the story,Hank Stram and his two children were having dinner on the train.2)Hank said,“I’m just going down to the dining car to get a coffee.”Here,he used“going down” because the dining car was near the last carriage of the train.3)After Hank bought the coffee he decided to drink it there because he met another American there.4)The train had stopped in a station for a few minutes.When it started moving again,the train divided and the front part was going to Frankfort while the other part was going to Bonn.5)The announcement made at the station was in German.Otherwise,Hank might have realized what would happen.6)The two children were not worried about their father’s absence at all,for they had travelled a lot.7)Hank managed to send a telephone message to the railway officials at the Bonn station,informing them the whole thing and asking them to meet his children at the station.8)The two children were very anxious about their father af-ter they reached the hotel.9)Hank didn’t arrive in Bonn until after eleven o’clock at night.10)The two children didn’t realize that their father had been anxious about them.They thought they had lost their father.

学生可任选其中一个角色进行准备。

1.检查学生课文朗读和复述。

2.教师向学生提出下列问题:Suppose you are looking for a new job.And now you are told that you are going to have an interview.Tell me what you should do as preparations.1)Will you wear your best clothes?2)Are you ready for the questions?3)What kind of questions do you think you will be asked?4)Do you want the manager to have a good im-pression on you?
3.准备阅读课文。

教师给出读前提问:1)How did the writer go to the interview?2)How many people were going to interview the writer and who were they?
教师给学生数分钟,要求学生快速阅读课文,之后请同学回答上述问题。

Key:1)The writer rode her bicycle to the interview.2)Three people were going to in-terview the writer:the boss of the section in which he wanted to work;a woman who was the head of the Training Department and the manager of the company.
4.放课文录音,学生跟读一至两遍。

2.教师从本单元词语中选择部分常用词语,配以例句介绍给学生。

要求学生反复练习这些例句,并请同学造句,教师予以讲评、订正。

四、难句分析
1.Soon he got talking to another person who happened to be American too.没多久他跟另外一个人攀谈起来,这个人碰巧也是美国人。

get加现在分词,表示状态的改变,不同情况有不同译法。

例如:
We’d better get moving now.我们现在得动身了。

Things haven’t really got going yet.事情还没有真正的开展起来。

The students soon got talking when the class advisor was out.当班主任出去后,学生们不久就开始讲话。

注意:get doing和get sb.doing sth.是有区别的。

get sb.doing sth.意为:使……变成某种状态。

请比较以下句子:
We got chatting and didn’t notice the time.我们聊了起来,没有注意时间。

The lecturer soon got us thinking.演讲人不久就使我们陷入沉思。

His main purpose was to get the programme moving.他的主要目的是使项目能开展起来。

2.At that moment he remembered that all the tickets,passports and travellers cheques were in his jacket that he had left hanging next to his seat.这时他才想起全部车票、护照和旅行支票都放在他的夹克衫里,而夹克衫还挂在他的座位旁边。

这是一个复合句,that all the tickets,…是宾语从句;that he had left hanging next to his seat是定语从句,修饰先行词his jacket。

在这个定语从句中使用了leave的复合结构,即:leave sb./sth.+-ing结构,意为:让(某人/某事)继续处于某种状态。

例如:Don’t leave her waiting outside in the rain.不要让她在外面的雨中等候。

They went off together and left me sitting there.他们一起走了,留下我一个人坐在那里。

Who will be taking over her job?谁接替她的工作?
在本单元这个句子中,that he had left hanging…中动词left的宾语是前面的关系代词that,
而that指代先行词his jacket。

3.She had gone through just a few carriages before she found herself at the front of
the train.她只走过几节车厢就发现自己已经来到列车的前部。

连词before在句中意为:“(不多久)就”。

例如:
I hadn’t waited long before he came.我没有等多久他就来了。

句中的find意为“发现”,后跟带介词短语的复合结构(found herself at the front of the
train)。

又如:
When he woke up,he found himself in hospital.当他醒来时,他发现自己住在医院里。

I hope to find you in better health when we meet again.我希望下次见面时,你的健康情
况会更好些。

4.He’ll be arriving at about eleven o’clock.他今晚11点左右到。

在本句中,谓语动词使用了将来完成时态。

其结构是:助动词will+be doing。

这一结构表示按
计划、安排将要进行或发生的动作。

也有的语法家认为这一结构表示“纯粹将来”(pure future)。

例如:
They will be coming by train and most of the young people in the town will be meeting
them at the station.他们将乘火车来,城里的绝大部分年轻人将要到车站去迎接他们。

You can use my typewriter.I won’t be using it.你可以用我的打字机,这会儿我不用。

在口语中这个时态常常用来表示预计即将发生或势必要发生的动作。

例如:
Be sure to come.We’ll be expecting you.一定要来,我们要等你的。
