During the spring vacation, I took part in an exchange progra m with the Diocesan Girls’ School in Hong Kong.
We were very lucky to get involved in DGS’s school courses. Unlike many Chinese dialects(方
言) that are dying away, Cantonese(广东
话) has been greatly protected in Hong Kong. In Chinese clas s, what amazed me most was hearing students read ancient Chinese poems in Cantonese together. The sound coming ou t of their mouths was like the song a bird makes. It was the fir st time I truly felt the beauty of a language.
Liberal studies is a subject that you must choose there, and it aims to encourage students’ thoughts on current articles. I fou nd Hong Kong students behave actively in this class, expressi ng their opinions in a logical way. I really appreciated the dept h of their knowledge.
Furthermore, the students needed to read plenty of passages written in English. I found it difficult to understand many of the words, but the students there seemed to pick them up easily. That’s mainly because every subject is taught in English there – except Chinese class, of course. This made me want to imp rove my English skills.
Through this program, I made friends with teachers and stud ents at DGS. Moreover, I learnt that Hong Kong is a great mix ture of the traditional and the modern, East and West. I’m sur e the memories of this trip will last in my mind forever.

It’s said that men are better at math and science than women. And taking a look at the figures from college students depart ments, it could be difficult to disagree with that. However, one famous British university is trying to stop this theory.
At Oxford University, math and computer science are two subj ects that have big gaps(差
距) in grades between men and women. For example, just 21.
2% of women taking math got first-
class degrees in 2017, compared to 45.5% of men, reported T he Times. The university believes that female students are m ore easily to be affected by “ time anxiety”. So to solve this pr oblem, female students at Oxford were given 15 minutes mor e than male students to finish their math and computer scienc e exams in the summer of 2017.
These changes were welcomed by some people. “I am happy when people see gaps between men and women. And they s hould not have such gaps.” Antonia Siu, a representative from Oxford Computer Science said.
However, others were against the decision. Amanda Foreman , a researcher at the University of Liverpool, UK, said, “I don’t think girls are weaker than boys and can’t take it. Women are not weaker.” Indeed, research from the US Department of Ed ucation suggested that girls are as good at math-
based subjects as boys are. However, they’re prevented from developing an interest in math and science because women a ren’t good at those subjects, a 2016 report by Forbes said. “T he truth is, you probably are a math person, however, you are possibly hamstringing your own career,” wrote The Atlantic.

A. women are worse at math and science than men
B. more women got math graduated with first-class degrees than men did
C. women are easier to get anxio us when taking exams
D. women are as good at the two subjects as men
62. Why were these changes welcomed by some people?
A. Because it shows women can be as good at these subjects as men.
B. Because people can see the differences between men and women.
C. Because it showed women were weaker sex.
D. Because it helps more women to be scientists.
63. What’s the meaning of the underlined word “hamstring” in the last paragraph?
A. Keep working
B. begin changing
C. keep away from
D. get used to
64. What can we know from the last paragraph?
A. Girls are weaker than boys and can’t take the anxiety from exams.
B. Girls can be as good at math-
based subjects as boys if they succeed in developing an inter
est in those subjects.
C. Girls need to work harder and longer if they want to be as s uccessful as boys.
D. All the girls can become successful in math.
65. Where do you think the article probably comes from_____ ____________?
A. culture

阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
A
During the spring vacation, I took part in an exchange program with the Diocesan Girls’ Scho ol in Hong Kong.
We were very lucky to get involved in DGS’s school courses. Unlike many Chinese dialects(方言) that are dying away, Cantonese(广东
话) has been greatly protected in Hong Kong. In Chinese class, what amazed me most was h earing students read ancient Chinese poems in Cantonese together. The sound coming out of their mouths was like the song a bird makes. It was the first time I truly felt the beauty of a l anguage.
Liberal studies is a subject that you must choose there, and it aims to encourage students’ th oughts on current articles. I found Hong Kong students behave actively in this class, expressi ng their opinions in a logical way. I really appreciated the depth of their knowledge. Furthermore, the students needed to read plenty of passages written in English. I found it diffi cult to understand many of the words, but the students there seemed to pick them up easily. That’s mainly because every subject is taught in English there – except Chinese class, of cou rse. This made me want to improve my English skills.
Through this program, I made friends with teachers and students at DGS. Moreover, I learnt that Hong Kong is a great mixture of the traditional and the modern, East and West. I’m sure the memories of this trip will last in my mind forever.
