The core philosophy behind JBL’s long history of audio innovation is based onmeticulous attention to every detail of system design. If the wire needed for anew voice coil isn’t available, JBL develops it. If a tool or technology doesn’texist, JBL invents it. This uncompromising commitment to the goal drivesthe development of every new product and technology that bears the JBLlogo. In recent years, audio engineers have developed new work methods andhave migrated to new work environments. Responding to the call for greateraccuracy and dynamic range in this new breed of music and post productionwork spaces, JBL engineers developed the new M2 Master Reference Monitor.Breaking free of the conventional, the M2 incorporates numerous patentedinnovations to deliver unprecedented performance and a trulyremarkable listening experience. Conceived and purposebuilt for modern recording and post production, theM2 was created so you can exercise yourown meticulous attention to detail. The Demand for Next Generation Studio MonitorsToday’s sophisticated music production is carried out in a broad range of spaces. Until now, the availability ofa big, impressive, yet highly accurate monitoring experience, has been limited to purpose-built control rooms. Lacking the space, infrastructure and resources to effectively integrate large systems into their production environments, professional project studios are forced to rely on the use of near-field monitors. As small and medium sized rooms play an increasingly significant role in cinema and broadcast content creation, high dynamic range and accuracy are required from a speaker system with a modest foot print. While JBL Screen Array®speakers are the standard on cinema mix stages, they are too large for use in smaller rooms, but near-field studio monitors don’t provide the required acoustic output or dynamic range for re-mix of dramatic content.Bringing a fresh perspective to the realities of this new production environment, JBL developed newtechnology to take monitoring to the next level. The Solution:The M2 Master Reference MonitorAddressing the growing need for high dynamic range and reference-monitor accuracy in a broad range of studios, JBL has developed the M2 Master Reference Monitor: a free-standing, 2-way system that can be placed in any environment to provide an exceptionally accurate monitoring experience. Leveraging a new generation of JBL high-output, ultra-low distortion transducers, the M2 provides in-room frequency response of 20 Hz to 40 kHz,and an extraordinary 123 dB maximum SPL to meet the demanding music, cinema and broadcast production requirements for impactful dynamic range. In a compact form-factor, the M2 integrates three key components that work in harmony to deliver unparalleled performance. At the heart of the system, JBL’s patented D2 high frequency and 2216Nd low frequency transducers are the engines that make this possible. Using a revolutionary design, the D2 produces smooth, extended high frequency response with ultra-low distortion whether listening at very high or subtle levels. Using patented technology, the remarkable 2216Nd woofer offers deep bass extension and very low power compression, even at its full-rated output. In spite of the M2’s minimal footprint, its exceptional low frequency response eliminates the need for a subwoofer. The unique Image Control waveguide completes the acoustic design. A marvel of engineering in its own right, this new JBL waveguide was designed specifically for the M2. Allowing an acoustically seamless transition between the woofer and high frequency driver, it produces exceptional imaging and delivers rich detail to a broad area of the room. These unique components make possible a two-way design with an unprecedented level of performance, utilizing a single seamless cross-over point that reduces system complexity and allows a compact form-factor for flexibility of placement in the room.Crown® Power Amplifiers with internal floating-point DSP are used to bi-amplify and tune each speaker, optimizing the M2’s performance in any room. The M2 brings a world-class, big monitoring experience with a new level of accuracy to a broad range of production spaces. For rooms wishing to step up, the M2 is a game changer. The Ultimate High Frequency Driver for Critical Reference MonitoringExtended HF Reproduction Smooth Response High Power HandlingMeasurably Lower Distortion Reduced Power Compression Increased Dynamic HeadroomExceptional system performance requires extraordinary components. To achieve their groundbreaking objectives, the M2 design engineers capitalized on new, patented JBL technology in the D2 Dual Driver, a revolutionary device developed by JBL to deliver dramatically superior high frequency response. The D2 dual driver design allows the M2 to meet seemingly opposing objectives: extended high frequency, very low distortion and very high output.Central to this innovative solution are two key developments. First: the use of an annular diaphragm, not subject to the break up modes of a conventional dome diaphragm. Second: the merging of two drivers into a single, compact transducer with a single acoustical output. Instead of the large and heavy metal dome diaphragm ofa conventional compression driver, the D2430K uses two annular low-mass polymer diaphragms offering thesame radiating area as a conventional 3-inch dome. Two separate 3-inch voice coils driven by their own magnet structures share the burden of heat transfer, resulting in a dramatic increase of output and power handling. Theresult is a high frequency transducer that produces smoother, extended high frequency response to 40 kHz andsignificantly lower levels of nonlinear distortion. Well-validated by objective measurements, the D2430K’s superior sound quality has also been verified through exhaustive subjective listening by leading industry experts.D2Dual Diaphragm, Dual Voice-Coil Compression DriverCompared with traditional highfrequency components, theannular design of the D2diaphragms dramaticallyreduce distortion resulting in audibly superior fidelity.Exceptional Low Frequency Extension High OutputVery Low Power Compression Very Low DistortionAchieving extended, rich low frequency performance within the M2 system designparameters required additional JBL engineering innovations, and the 2216Nd in theM2 is no “off-the-shelf” woofer. It employs no less than five patented technologies toallow bass extension to the limits of the audible range, and high output, free of powercompression that is detrimental to a system’s low frequency performance. Echoingthe “dual driver” design of the D2, the 2216Nd utilizes dual neodymium magnetsand two voice coils. To ensure the ultimate performance, even the use of special wire inthe 2216 voice coils is a JBL patented application. Featuring a low thermal coefficient ofresistance wire, this new JBL voice coil design allows the woofer parameters to remainmore stable at high output levels. The result is lower power compression, which allowslower distortion at high system output. In addition, the 2216Nd’s cone, compliance andspider are engineered to allow greater excursion at the woofer’s lowest frequencies. In the M2 system, the 2216Nd produces impressive low frequency output down to 20 Hz.2216NdDifferential Drive ® Woofer FEA Optimized Cone Geometry for Strength and Controlled DirectivityDual Voice Coils Utilizing Low TCR Alloy Edge-Wound WireDual Gap / Dual Neodymium Magnet Motor AssemblyHi-Temp Fiberglass FormerHigh Strength Nomex SpiderImage Control WaveguideImpressive Imaging and Sound Stage Exceptional High Frequency DetailUniform Directivity for Smooth In-Room Response Patent Pending DesignTo support an imperceptible transition between the two drivers, and deliver exceptional imaging, JBL engineers pioneered a new patent-pending waveguide design that enables neutral frequency response, not just on-axis, but off-axis in the vertical and horizontal planes, all the way down to the M2’s 800 Hz crossover point. The unique geometry of this waveguide allows the M2 to deliver remarkable high frequency detail, imaging, and natural balance at nearly any listening position in a broad range of acoustic environments. Since designof this complexity and level of detail is an iterative process, JBL performs Finite Element Analysis, creating virtual simulations of off-axis response, pattern control, and the blend of the high frequency driver and woofer. Because “close” is not good enough, JBL uses in-house rapid prototyping equipment to produce and evaluate physical samples until the design is perfected. With an awareness that today’s audio production is carried out in a wide range of acoustic environments, JBL engineers employ a set of measurements to predict how a loudspeaker will behave in actual roomenvironments. While other manufacturers use a single on-axis frequency response measurement taken at one point in space, LSR Design Protocol requires 72 measurements that encompass all power radiated into the listening room, in every direction. This data reflects 1,296 times the information of a single on-axis response curve. The entire sound field heard by the listener is correlated and studied to optimize the speaker’s response at the listening position. LSR Design Protocol exposes resonance, directivity anomalies and the cause of off-axis coloration. This allows intelligent system design that ensures a wide, accurate sweet-spot, and neutral timbre in a broad range of listening environments. The M2 is the ultimate expression of the LSR Design Protocol.Directivity anomalies, and resulting poor off-axis response can destroy accuracy and neutrality at the listening position and cannot be fixed using room EQ. The measurements below illustrate the M2’s superior directivity.Extended low frequency performance and high SPL can be theformula for unwanted resonance. The M2 enclosure is constructedof rigid 1" MDF and with the aid of JBL’s interferometer, extensivelybraced for rock-solid stability at the system’s full rated power. Theenclosure incorporates a JBL patented Slipstream port design withinternal flares that ensure low frequency efficiency while eliminatingnoise caused by port turbulence. Architecturally elegant, the M2enclosure occupies a relatively small footprint, and can betransported to various working environments,Small FootprintExtended Bass PerformancePatented Low Frequency Port DesignM2 EnclosureLSR Linear Spatial Reference DesignA laser interferometer can detect the source of resonance in a prototype enclosureThe coverage of this speaker is erratic and notuniform at all frequencies. As a component of soundthat reaches the mix position, the off-axis responsenegatively impacts the speaker’s accuracy. The M2s response is exceptionally smooth and consistent across a wide listening window, providing neutral response, and natural balance, not just at the mix position, but virtually anywhere in the room.Room acoustics can play a big part in what you hearat the mix position, particularly in the room-dependentlow frequency bands, where resonance caused by roommodes can give a false impression of bass in the mix. While offering exceptional accuracy “out of the box,”the power of the M2 is fully realized with its intelligentin-room tuning and integration capabilities, ensuringoptimum performance in your listening environment.Room optimization is achieved through the use offloating-point digital signal processing integrated intoCrown iTech HD power amplifiers and BSS SoundwebLondon processors. HARMAN System Architect ™Software is included to provide external control of systemEQ and tuning capabilities. Used in conjunction withexternal measurement hardware and software, thecomplete M2 tuning and room integration systemaddresses non-linearity in the room. This ensures ahigh degree of accuracy whether the monitors arefreestanding, soffit-mounted, or placed adjacent to a wall.HARMAN Crown I-Tech power amplifiers completethe M2 system, providing greater than a kilowatt of cleanpower to the 2216Nd woofer, and more than enoughpower for the D2 driver. Working in concert with theM2’s revolutionary Image Control waveguide, BSS ®OMNIDRIVE HD ™ digital signal processing in the CrownI-Tech allows the implementation of an ideal crossover, while providing the option for storage of EQ presets. For large system configurations, BSS Soundweb London signal processors provide centralized processing of multiple M2 systems and are controlled using supplied London Architect software. When digital inputs and outputs are needed, the Soundweb London BLU-800model can be outfitted with digital I/O cards and synchronized to external word clock sources. The use of BSS Soundweb processors, in combinationwith Crown Macro-Tech ® power amps, provide apowerful, flexible, and cost effective system.System IntegrationTuning and Room IntegrationCrown ® I-Tech 5000HDBSS Soundweb ™ London ProcessingSystem ConfigurationsWith a compact form factor, exibleplacement options, tune-ability, and itsintegrated system approach, the M2 systemeliminates the impediments that haveprevented personal-use studios from havingthe dynamic range and accuracy of a largeformat monitor system. For the rst time, theM2 system enables project studio owners tomake the leap from small near- eld monitorsto a “big”, world-class monitoring experience.Solid MDF enclosures, front porting andoutboard electronics make the M2 sof tmount ready. Eliminating the requirement foroutboard equalization, the Crown poweredM2 system includes all the EQ needed fordetailed room-tuning, and offers the ability tostore multiple EQ curves to meet the needsof the application or client preference. While the M2 provides exceptional dynamicrange and the resolution needed fordemanding remix applications, its compactfoot-print allows placement behind thescreen in smaller rooms. Used as screenchannels, the M2 integrates perfectly intoa system with JBL cinema surrounds, subwoofers and overhead surroundspeakers speci ed in burgeoning theatricalrelease formats. Select models in the BSSSoundweb London processor line canbe tted with digital inputs and externallysynchronized to house word-clockfor an all-digital signal path. Centralizedmanagement of EQ presets allow storageand easy recall of curves such as theX-Curve for specialized applications.System Configurations: Project Studio System Configurations: Commercial Control Room 16:23:42:00Professional Project StudiosMusic Recording Control RoomsPost Production Control RoomsLike all JBL Professional products, the M2 design was subjectedto the extreme JBL Power Testregimen in which a speaker isrequired to operate at full ratedoutput for 100 hours continuously, without failure. This strenuous testensures the speaker will provideyears of reliable performancein the demanding professionalproduction environment.JBL Professional’s sophisticated Rapid Prototype Machines play a key role in the perfection of a system design.Rapid production of acoustically correct mechanical components allows JBL engineers to verify and perfect the design over multiple iterations. The result is not only a shorter design cycle, but better analysis and refinement of the final design, ensuring the final component meets design objectives.Because the room can play a big part in what you hear, JBL’s unique speaker shuffler allows critical evaluation and benchmarking of a speaker design. The shuffler swaps pairs of speakers in the space of 3 seconds, placing each pair in exactly the same position in the room, ensuring the most accurate comparative listening evaluation possible.Power Test ChamberRapid Prototyping Speaker ShufflerSystem Format: High Frequency Model:Low Frequency Model: Crossover Frequency:Frequency Range:Image Control Wave Guide Dispersion: Sensitivity 1W/1m SPL:Continuous/Peak SPL@ 1m: The System Requires:Recommended Amplifi er Power: Input Connectors:Enclosure Construction: Finish: Included:Dimensions (W x H x D):Weight:2-Way Floor Standing or Soffi t MountableD2430K Dual Diaphragm Dual Voice Coil Compression Driver 2216Nd 15 in (381 mm) Differential Drive ® Woofer 800 Hz 20 Hz - 40 kHz 120º H x 100º V 92 dB117 dB /123 dB; 108 dB Peak SPL @ 8mOne Crown ® iTech 5000HD power amp for each speaker,or BSS ® Soundweb London Processor with Crown Macro-Tech ® MA-5000i 1,200 Watts into 8 ohms Spring Terminals 25 mm (1 in) MDF Satin Black LacquerRemovable ABS Grille with Black UL Compliant Fabric 508 mm x 1256 mm x 355.6 mm (20 in x 49.5 in x 14 in)58.5 kg (129 lb)These detailed measurements of the M2 illustrate the system’s exceptional performance. The JBL technologies used in the M2 Master Reference Monitor are protected under one or more of the following patents:BSS and Crown are trademarks of Harman InternationalPerformance and Specifi cationsJBL Pro Patents2216ND Differential Drive ® Woofer 5664023, 5748760, 6768804, 6847726, 6774510Bass Refl ex Port 7890312D2430 Dual Diaphragm, Dual Voice Coil Compression Driver 8280091Image Control Waveguide Patent PendingSystem tuning requires external measurement hardware and software, not supplied as part of an M2 system.Including removable feet Frequency Response DirectivityM2SPECIFICATIONS1231 m m / 48.5 i n1256 m m / 49.5 i n87 m m3.4 i n48 m m 1.9 i n 500 m m / 19.7 i n414 m m / 16.3i n 371 mm / 14.6 in250 mm / 9.8 inHarman GreenEdge systems combine environmentally-friendly design and dramatic energy savings without compromising the excellent performance for which Harman products are known.• Improved Acoustic Effi ciency and Heat Dissipation • Lower System Weight and Packaging • Reduced Power Consumption and Amplifi er Effi ciencyHarman Green Edge Environmental ResponsibilityCAT M2-25 01/13 © 2013 Harman International Industries, Incorporated 8500 Balboa Blvd. Northridge, CA 91329 USA /M2。

This 3 dB headroom is necessary to handle the peaks that are common to musical programs. When the amplifier clip s those peaks, high distortion arises and this may damage the transducer due to excessive heat. The use of compressors is a good practice to reduce music dynamics to safe levels.FINDING VOICE COIL TEMPERA TUREIt is very important to avoid maximum voice coil temperature. Since moving coil resistance (R ) varies with temperature according to a well known law, E we can calculate the temperature inside the voice coil by measuring the voice coil DC resistance:T , T = voice coil temperatures in °C.A B R , R = voice coil resistances at temperatures T and T , respectively.A B A B α= voice coil wire temperature coef ficient at 25 °C.25POWER COMPRESSIONVoice coil resistance rises with temperature, which leads to efficiency reduction. Therefore, if after doubling the applied electric power to the driver we get a 2 dB rise in SPL instead of the expected 3 dB, we can say that power compression equals 1 dB. An efficient cooling system to dissipate voice coil heat is very important to reduce power compression.NON-LINEAR VOICE COIL P ARAMETERSDue to its close coupling with the magnetic assembly , the voice coil in electrodynamic loudspeakers is a very non-linear circuit. Using the non- linear modeling parameters Krm, Kxm, Erm, Exm from an empirical model, we can calculate voice coil impedance with good accuracy.α+− −+=125T 1R R T T Kapton : Du Pont trademark.L O U D S P E A K E R SBRAZIL Address:ELETRÔNICA SELENIUM S.A.BR 386 Km 435 / 92.480-000 Nova Santa Rita - RS - Brazil Fax: +(55) 51 .brUSA Adress:SELENIUM USAUSAEUROPE Adress:SELENIUM EUROPEGermany Polar Response Curve.PROFESSIONAL LINE - Woofer15PW3 / 15PW3-SLF *30°210°60°240°90°270°120°300°150°330°180°0-6-10-20dB30°210°60°240°90°270°120°300°150°330°180°0-6-10-20dB30°210°60°240°90°270°120°300°150°330°180°0-6-10-20dB30°210°60°240°90°270°120°300°150°330°180°0-6-10-20dB30°210°60°240°90°270°120°300°150°330°180°0-6-10-20dB30°210°60°240°90°270°120°300°150°330°180°0-6-10-20dB30°210°60°240°90°270°120°300°150°330°180°0-6-10-20dB30°210°60°240°90°270°120°300°150°330°180°0-6-10-20dB30°210°60°240°90°270°120°300°150°330°180°0-6-10-20dB。

JBL HT系列扬声器用户手册说明书
The Center channel front speaker should be positioned vertically and centered either above or below the middle of the screen (or behind the screen if you have a projection T.V. with a perforated screen). All three front speakers should be mounted "flush" to the screen and in the same plane relative to the screen. The Left and Right should be at the exact same height, and the Center should be no more than 2 feet higher or lower. Your Center channel speaker must be vertically oriented. Turning it on its side will prevent your HT1 system from producing the correct sound field.
FRONTS (Left-Center-Right)
The Left and Right front channel speakers should be located on either side of the T.V. screen or projector. Closer to the screen gives you more localization while farther (two to three feet from the screen on each side) will give you a wider sound field. Ideally, you want to try to put the speakers about 45 degrees apart from each other, viewed from the listening position. The center line of the speaker (the area between the two tweeters) should be at the same height as actors on the screen would be. Depending on the height of your T.V. screen, you may be able to place the Left and Right speakers directly on top of your subwoofer cabinets. If your screen height doesn't allow this, you may place the Left and Right speakers on a speaker stand to achieve the proper height. Depending upon your configuration, you may also need a stand for the center speaker that tilts it so that it points towards the listener's ear level. Your JBL dealer can help you purchase a stand that meets your height requirement.

SC305
The SC305 Center Channel Speaker is the result of concentrated efforts to combine traditional JBL performance values with elegant contemporary appearance. Some of the engineering features of the SC305 are:
Magnetic Shielding: prevents stray magnetic fields from creating any interference or distortion of the video picture. This allows placement of the SC305 directly on top of, or directly below the video monitor.
POWER HANDLING
Thanks to its high efficiency, the JBL SC305 loudspeaker will produce reasonable volume levels in a room of moderate size with very little amplifier power. However, using a small amplifier to obtain the desired volume listening levels may lead to overdriving the amplifier. This will generate high distortion levels and may cause damage to your loudspeaker. For the best performance, an amplifier should be selected with an output rating that is greater than the maximum power that will be used. This margin of reserve power will ensure that the amplifier will not attempt to deliver more power than its design allows. However, the amplifier's power rating per channel must not exceed the maximum recommended amplifier power for that specific loudspeaker model. Please see the specification section for details. Following these guidelines will provide virtually distortion-free sound reproduction and long loudspeaker life.
JBL CBT系列设计指南说明书
It is very rare for sound systems to be deployed in the perfect acoustic environment. Whenever there is an increase in environmental background noise or reverberation time, there is a decrease in the intelligibility or performance of the loudspeaker system in the space.JBL CBT series’ primary purpose is to overcome the challenges of highly reflective or reverberant acoustic environments. CBT focusses the sound energy precisely and solely on the audience, and it does this with sonic performance rivalling some of the most complex and expensive line array systems. The footprint, ease of deployment and aesthetics are far better suited to architecturally sensitive spaces than typical line array systems.Conventional loudspeakers typically have a wider coverage pattern with limited control over the mid and low frequency spectrum. This results in sound reflecting off room boundaries and delivering less direct sound from the loudspeaker to the listener. Thus, increasing the number of unwanted reflections. The differing arrival times of some of these reflections result in a lack of clarity for the listener, and consequently a reduction in intelligibility.JBL CBT series is a proven and unsurpassed design shattering the notion of passive column speakers as performance-limited solutions to sound reinforcement with many of the benefits of a beam steering column style array. The JBL CBT series raises the bar far beyond the competition with patented technologies that draw upon and adds to the long history of JBL innovation, delivering new capabilities, many of which are firsts in the industry and still unrivalled in a passive column, and in many active column and line source arrays.Often the challenges with traditional passive columns are:• The coverage continually narrows at higher frequencies, resulting in much of the listening area being covered by only part of the sound spectrum.• Driver interactions cause the frequency response to change at every point – on and off axis and at every distance away from the speaker. Each listener hears a different balance of sound.• Lobes of sound projecting outside the listening area increase the reverberation, reducing intelligibility and interfering with musical quality. Any lobes that project into the audience further degrade the evenness of performance.• Often manufacturers use ‘Commercial-grade’ transducers without any waveguide. These products are targeted at low-cost or voice-band / background music audio reproduction. The solution is JBL’s patented Constant Beamwidth Technology (CBT), which is different from traditional passive columns. It solves these problems by locking in and maintaining a specific coverage over a very wide bandwidth. The CBT models deliver smooth, consistent coverage that is typically associated with complex and far more expensive line arrays. We also draw on generations of innovative driver and waveguide technology to deliver power, accuracy, and frequency response far beyond the expectations of conventional column speaker products.CBT series loudspeakers combine constant directivity coverage with line array efficiency, deliveringsurprising evenness of level and frequency response whether you are near or far, on or off axis to thespeaker.2. PORTFOLIODesigned for venues that would typically use larger point-and-shoot speakers, the CBT models incorporate technical advancements that allow them to vastly outperform competitive systems, with a level of user-friendliness that virtually eliminates the challenges of delivering great sound. The JBL CBT series comes in a variety of sizes and performance capabilities designed to suit many different applications and can be split into two distinct areas of use1. Traditional column applications2. Performance audio applicationsCBT 50, 100 and 200 products can be used where traditional column or point source loudspeakers would be deployed.Common features of CBT 50, 100, 200• Patented Constant Beamwidth Technology™ provides true wide-band constant directivitycoverage up to the highest frequencies and reduces out-of-coverage lobing • 50mm, custom-designed, true full-range drivers• Specifically tailored performance with on board selectable Music & Speech modes • Narrow width of 98.5 mm (3.8 in) fits visually into a wide variety of applications.• Dynamic Sonic-Guard™ low-audibility overload protection maximizes clarity at high drive levelswhile protecting the drivers from damage due to overpowering • Swivel (pan)/tilt wall bracket included• Built-in 70V/100V transformers, plus low impedance capability • Weatherised as standard – IP55• Black or White versions available • PaintableCBT-50CBT-100CBT-200Ideal applications:• Lecture halls• Difficult acoustic environments • Transport hubs • Conference rooms• Houses of Worship • Multi-purpose spaces • Architectural spaces • Shopping MallsCBT 70 and 1000 products suited for performance audio applications.Common features of CBT 70 and 1000:• Asymmetrical vertical coverage sends more sound toward the rear of the room, making front-to-back sound levels more consistent• Patented Constant Beamwidth Technology™ provides constant directivity up to the highestfrequencies and reduces out-of-coverage lobing • Switchable vertical pattern coverage• Switchable voicing provides flat response in music mode or mid-range presence peak in speechmode• Dynamic SonicGuard™ overload protection of HF devices • Swivel (pan) / tilt wall bracket included • Low impedance drive• Weatherised as standard – IP55• Black or White versions available • PaintableIdeal applications:• Full range high sound level A/V applications • Small to large performance spaces • Small to large houses of worship • Full fidelity lecture halls• Delay/fill applications for larger systems• Transit hubs with highly reverberant acoustic environments • Large-scale Immersive audio and surround sound systems• Outdoor systems such as sports fields, racetracks, and theme parks • Multi-purpose mixed content spacesCBT-70J+E CBT-70J CBT-1000CBT-1000+E3. CBT APPLICATIONS OF USECBT speakers are fantastic for challenging acoustic spaces, places where you want to keep sound focused on the audience and avoid unwanted reflections from hard walls or ceilings that can seriously degrade intelligibility. Churches, cathedrals, lecture theatres, modern glass-riddled acoustical nightmares, this is where the CBT series really shines. But they are also perfect for any situation where discreet, multi-purpose and high-fidelity audio is required. Here are a just a few case studies of CBT in use:COAL DROPS YARD - UKOutdoor Public Space – CBT series used for public address and music applications – read moreSamsung KX – London UKRetail Experience Centre – CBT is used with a 32-foot Screenmax LED display wall for presentations, demonstrations, discussions, gaming, and cinema movie nights – read moreCALI BEACH CLUB, AUSTRALIACali Beach Club is a $10 million Ibiza-inspired beach club in the heart of Surfers Paradise. read more Srisawad Power 1979 HQ - ThailandModern meeting spaces equipped with JBL CBT loudspeakers. read more4.CBT - THE TECHNOLOGY•CBT’s initial R&D concept was adapted from military research on sonar where a physical sphere of transducers is deployed along with gain reduction which gradually increases with each driver as they fan out from the centre. The resulting beam is clean, uniform and does not suffer from lobing issues that are inherent in flat designs without this ‘Legendre shading’•The second stage of JBL’s research took this technology further, instead of physically curving the array we use a passive delay and filter network to achieve the same time alignment in a straight form factor.•The technologies combine to allow us to create a tight, uniform, and coherent beam from a single, straight column, without negative lobing effects that this format naturally exhibits:•Because CBT produces fixed beam patterns, we can also use waveguide technology to highly optimise the coverage for this predetermined dispersion. This also has the added benefit of making the system simple to specify and use.•Beam width of a typical Column Design: CBT:•CBT also employs dual voice coil motors with neodymium magnets on every model in the range. In the CBT 70 and 1000 we add an array of custom, high performance high frequency drivers and further tour sound features to the bass drivers like copper shorting rings and highly damped surrounds. This is done for 2 reasons-1)These products are intended to be a reference for performance quality.2)This high level of performance is required while keeping the dimensionsof the driver narrow and shallow to maintain the discrete aesthetics of a column design.HF driversLF driversEnergy concentrated in front of the speaker vs energy spread evenly over the audienceAnother useful tool JBL has developed is the design and modelling software, CBT Calculator. JBL’s CBT Calculator software is a precision engineering tool allowing audio professionals to design JBL’s CBT Constant Beamwidth Technology line array column loudspeakers into a wide variety of venues.CBT Calculator shows the vertical coverage of CBT models in venues via a cross-sectional sound level coverage display. The program allows the use of up to 3 CBT speakers and virtual adjustment of their various adjustable settings for vertical coverage (narrow or broad) and voicing (speech or music/flat), in a space with up to 4 independent listening planes. In addition to the SPL vertical coverage mapping of a proposed design, the CBT Calculator also shows the frequency response for up to 6 listener locations as well as an SPL summary of the listener locations over user-defined frequency bands. It helps designers to determine the best CBT model selection, the proper vertical coverage and voicing settings, mounting height and the down-angle, allowing audio professionals to design CBT column line array speakers into many venue-application types.JBL's CBT Calculator is free to download from the JBL website. The JBL CBT Calculator dashboard used to model the deployment of all CBT loudspeakers.5.COLUMN LOUDSPEAKERS IN APPLICATIONFrom their inception in the middle of the last century right up to today, the benefits of the column loudspeaker have been known about and utilised in professional install applications. In the latter part of the 20th century beam steering using delay, driver spacing, and filtering came to the fore. Both technologies help to maximise the direct sound reaching the audience and reduce the spill into the reverberant field, however the lobing and inconsistencies in beam pattern at different frequencies tend to make them less than ideal for critical listening and performance applications.JBL’s CBT series of loudspeakers have been designed from the ground up to overcome these issues and create a range of products with the desirable sonic characteristics of the best point and line source designs while achieving the same beam-steering and design format of a versatile column system. All of this is achieved using passive electronics and waveguides, making installation the same as a conventional loudspeaker. With the CBT Series, every seat in the house experiences the same superb quality of sound, regardless of position. CBT series is a tool kit of options allowing many acoustical and architectural challenges to be overcome. Add to this the freely available modelling software, it really becomes easy to define a great sounding system using JBL CBT series for almost any application.PRODUCTSCBT 50LA-1Representing a breakthrough in pattern control, with Constant Beamwidth Technology50LA-1 utilises analog delay beam-forming and amplitude taperingto accomplish consistent vertical coverage without the narrow vertical beaming and out-of-coverage lobing that are typical of straight form-factor passive column speakers.Learn more on our website CBT 50LA-LSThe CBT 50LA-LS utilises analogdelay beamforming and amplitudetapering to accomplish consistentvertical coverage without the narrowvertical beaming and out-of-coveragelobing that are typical of straightform-factor passive column speakers. This loudspeaker is EN 54-24compliant for life safety applications.Learn more on our websiteCBT 100LA-1Representing a breakthrough inpattern control consistency, the CBT100LA-1 utilizescomplex analog delaybeam-forming and amplitude taperingto achieve consistent vertical coveragewithout the narrow vertical beamingand out-of-coverage lobingtypical ofstraight form-factor passive columnspeakers.
