We have to admit that the impactoftechnology on society is unquestionable. Whetherconsideri ng the TV or thecomputers, technology has had a hugeimpact on society. While not every advance has been beneficial, there have been many positive effects of technology. Theinternet isone typical example.
With the development of science andtechnology, the worldis no longer what it used to be. But the ability ofcommunication isa significant skill which should be cultivated if we want tosurvivean d succeed in the world. But the way of communication with peoplehaschanged dramatically. Almo st everyone today has a computer, anduses it tocommunicate with their friends, family, and evenbu siness. The virtual worldcommunication has changed the way thatpeople communicate.
Since communication between peoplein the real world is of utmost importance, lack of comm unicationwilllead to perish of human beings. Through communication in thereal world, mutualund erstanding can be promoted and fosteredbetween people, which cannot bereplaced by the virtualc ommunication.
TASK2: There are many problems associatedwith mobile phonestoday.
To what extent do the advantages of mobilephones outweighthe disadvantage?
As concerns mount over the advent of new technology, peoplenowadays hold a mixed feeling toward the use of mobile phones. Phenomena areidentified that mobile phones, especially smart p hones, make quite a few usersdistracted from their work or studies, who are often seen preoccupie d with miscellaneousapplications. However, there are still numbers of people enjoy a wide range o fconvenient and effective services mobile phones provide, which, to some extent, have already been integrated into people’s routine life.
The main criticism concerning mobile phones squarely fallsinto the distraction. Usually coul d we see the situation where people sittingaround a table do nothing but to deeply concentrate on t heir phones, withshamefully little real communication with people beside. Mobile phones, therefore , seem to make users alienated or aloof sometimes, and moreover, people gradually form the habit of interacting with each other online or bytexting messages rather than direct meeting or talking. Apart from thedisadvantages mentioned, long time usage of mobile phones can also bring physical harm to people’s health which is exposed to much radiation.
Although mobilephones are blamed for those aspects, I still doubt people would choose to liv ewithout them or neglect their undeniably convenient offers. Firstly,long-distance and real-time co mmunications by mobile phones enable peopleliving in different places to contact each other with efficiency. Accordingly, many multinationals, which frequently hold video-or teleconferencing, are amongthe biggest beneficiaries, saving amounts of commuting cost. In addition, mobiles with data have essentially accelerated the spread of information. Thelatest news at present is only a click or touch away, whose timely pushnotification services are irresistible for people bustling about in thi sinformation age. Furthermore, there are many useful applications that can evenmonitor and eval uate the users’ health and act as a personal general practitioner, giving medical advice when it is n ecessary. Those applications are wellanticipated to improve users’ life quality. The examples I ha ve given are just a few of the many thatcan elucidate the advantages of mobile phones. Although at
tentions should beattached to some problems caused, those are still a small part of the wholepictur e. Besides, some of the problems, such as radiation in particular, arepotentially to be solved in the future as technology and science areprogressing with momentum.

1.Direction: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short eaasy based on the pic ture below. You should focus on the difficulty in acquiring useful information in spite of advanced i nformation technology. You are required to write at least 150 words but no more than 200 words.
Nowadays, more and more hi-tech tools, such as calculator, computer, etc, appear in our dail y life.we use them wherever and whenever we are,so that our life becomes easier and more comfor table than before.
However, does anyone think about what problems science and technology have caused to hap pen in this world? To some degree,it's more serious than that we consider. We human indeed use the m to improve our living standard, but on the other hand,we are becoming lazier, more reliable than we used to be.All day long those hi-tech products accompany us,then we have either no space or ti me to think, aswell, communication between each other decreases, and what takes place of it is the h uge indifference and gap among human.
To solve these problems,we should in no time take measures to do with them.Firstly, communi cate with others and think on your own more.Secondly, decrease the times you use hi-tech tools.Fo r the advantages of technology,we should absorb,at the meantime,be independent and abandon the short-comings.Thus,we could combine technology and human progress much closer and not lose ourselves in this modern society.
2.Direction:For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay based on the pict ure below. You should focus on the harm caused by misleading information online. You are require d to write at least 150 words but no more than 200 words.
The harm caused by misleading information online It is true that the internet has brought u s great convenience and efficiency, however, as the data grows at an exponential rate, the severity of misleading information arises. Deceptive news or tips travel fast online, and worse still, they may shadow our routine life or even hinder the progress of our society. Lack of enough considerati on, we are easily misled by false information which always appears in bulk on the webpage. Some will alter their plans to deal with the so-called disaster but only affect their normal life; a few may even go further to violate social security and economic trend. Moreover, if the misleading news is n’t corrected soon, there may be a trust crisis between individuals and the government. For examp le, the nuclear leakage in Japan in 2011 has caused great panic in Eastern China, where thousand s of people went out to rob salt after the rumor that salt can prevent radiation, and ended in a turb ulence in the domestic market.
To prevent misleading information spreading, government should set up laws to regulate onl ine news while individuals need to judge independently. Only when they work in hand will the har m of false information be diminished to the end.

Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write an essay commenting on the s aying “Knowledge is a treasure, but practice is the key to it.” You can cite one example or two t o illustrate your point of view. You should write at least 150 but no more than 200 words.
范文:
Practice is the Key to Knowledge
Nowadays almost every person has a clear notion about the importance of knowledge, with w hich we can make great difference to our world. However, the contribution of practice should also be awarded.
Practice is considered significant because it can turn abstract ideas into tangible results. Only t hrough practice can we truly develop our own understanding about the essence of the new knowle dge, or else the treasure of knowledge would still be words printed on papers. Moreover, the vilific ation of new theories requires us to focus more on the practical side, which helps people to learn b etter compared with the mechanical way of reading and memorizing. In addition, practice makes p eople acquire information in an active way, thus more innovative thoughts are likely to be generat ed in the process and then applied to make our future life more exciting.
As far as I am concerned, practice is essential for people to understand, to review and to opti mize the information we receive. It is practice that produces enjoyable life and makes knowledge t ruly valuable.
Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write an essay commenting on Albert Einstein’s remark “I have no special talents, I am only passionately curious.” You can cite one example or two to illustrate your point of view. You should write at least
150 but no more than 200 words.
范文:
The above saying from Einstein vividly echoes a piece of quotation: stay hungry; stay foolish, which is put forward by Steven Jobs, the late CEO of Apple Inc. Undoubtedly, both of the two gre at men attach importance to curiosity. To some extent, we may safely maintain that without curiosi ty, without success. In the first place, curiosity is the premise of innovation, which can be seen as the key to success. Besides Einstein, a case in point is Steven Jobs, who always keeps curious, dev oted to innovation. So, there is no exaggeration to say that the success of Apple Inc doesn’t suppre ss us at all. In the second place, the quality of being curious provides us with the drive to go forwa rd. To put it another way, where there is curiosity, there is advancement. For example, if a scientist desires to make progress in his research community, he must hold a curious heart; otherwise, his r esearch will eventually go into a corner.
In conclusion, it is not too much to say that curiosity plays an indispensable role both in pers onal and corporate success. So, it is wise for us to bear in mind great men’s sayings concerning cu riosity and practice them as much as possible.
Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write an essay commenting on the sa ying”If you cannot do great things ,do small things in a great way.” You can cite one example or two to illustrate your point of view. You should write at least 150 but no more than 200 words.
范文:
There is no doubt that many people want to be great and successful, but only a few can climb t o the top and be admired by the world. However, it doesn’t mean that most of us are losers. Actuall y everyone can achieve high by doing small things in a great way.
We have to admit that there are something that we cannot accomplish right now, but it isn’t the excuse for us to stop trying. Being great needs time and patience, so only when all small accompli shments add up can many impossibilities gradually turn to possibilities. At least, one won’t regret f or not making effort to achieve the goal. For example, one may doesn’t have the resources or train ing on how to be a world-class musician, but by constant practice of every short piece of music, he can still bring happiness, comfort and inspiration to his family members and friends, then this per son is great in the eyes of the audiences.
Therefore, never cease the pace on the road to our dreams. As long as we stick to our goal and be serious to whatever related to it, we can be considered as great.

For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write an essay based on the picture below. You should start your essay with a brief description of the picture and then discuss whether technology is indispensable in education. You should give sound arguments to support your views and write at least 150 words but no more than 200 words.
范文:
From this cartoon, we clearly see that the student is asking his teacher about whether or not he can use some tech support to figure out the problem in his math class. What’s behind the cartoon is the fact that nowadays students become increasingly dependent on technological devices to help them with their school work.
In my opinion, with the advances in technology, students can learn more efficiently. First of all, technology provides infinite resources for learning. When our parents were students, they could only learn from their teachers, while nowadays, we can learn much more from the Internet. Second, it’s more convenient to learn with tech support. For example, I got enrolled in a Spanish class in an online school called Hu jiang Online Class. All it requires is a PC or a smart phone, and I can learn the lectures anytime and anywhere. Lastly, it’s more economical to learn online. Besides the courses, free Apps are also easily accessible.
As for me, tech support has become an important part in my daily study. I will continue to learn in this way, and I believe that we can learn more efficiently if we are able to utilize the technologies around us.

Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write an essay based on the picture below. You should start your essay with a brief description of the picture and then discuss whether there is a shortcut to learning. You should give sound arguments to support your views and write at least 150 words but no more than 200 words.
范文:
The comic is an ironical illustration that it is unadvisable to search for a shortcut to learning. The student tries to find a book about how to do well in school without studying in the library, only to be told that it is unrealistic and impractical.
The discussion of whether there is a shortcut to learning is essentially the requesting for a supreme learning method –a panacea every learner wishes for. In my opinion, the shortcut to learning does exist. It is the combination of diligence and intelligence. As Thomas Edison says, “Genius is one per cent inspiration, ninety-nine per cent perspiration.”
On one hand, hard work is the premise and prerequisite for achieving academic success. Even the most resourceful ones have to devote their time studying and reading, because knowledge does not go automatically into the brain. All efforts will be futile if we idle away our time.
On the other hand, it is undeniable that there are ways to improve learning efficiency, especially with the support of technology like the Internet. Better learners are always the ones with cleverer learning skills.
To sum up, only when we diligently and skillfully can we achieve academic success.

Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write an essay based on the picture below. You should start your essay with a brief description of the picture and then discuss what qualities an employer should look for in job applicant. You should give sound arguments to support your views and write at least 150 words but no more than 200 words.
范文:
According to the picture, an employer turns down a job applicant, for his degree is less
advanced than the other applicants, even though he has a good resume. Actually, what’s behind the cartoon is the tendency that employers focus on academic performance when hiring.
No one disputes that a college or higher degree opens doors. Despite that, as far as I’m concerned, academic degree should not be the primary criteria in selecting talents. First of all, academic degrees only represent the applicants’proficiency in their sc hool work, and cannot demonstrate their personality or other abilities. For instance, the responsibility of a human resources manager is to deal with people, and thus it requires advanced people skill which is by no means shown in the diploma. Second, emphasis on degrees may stall the development of the company. They will lose real talents if they judge people only by their educational background, while it is often the case that college drop-outs like Bill Gates, Michael Dell, Steve Jobs, etc., run wildly successful enterprises.
Therefore, instead of running after applicants with higher degrees, companies should become more concerned about what it takes to do the job and what a college education actually provides.

For this part , your are alloed 30 minutes to write an essay explaining why it is unwise to judge a person by their appearance. You can give explain to illustrate your point .You should write at least 150 words but no more than 200words。
There is an old saying that people never judge a book from its cover. From my point of view, this saying also applies to our attitudes towards others: never judge a person from their appearance. Because you never know one person’s true merits if only judging from their appearance。
It is true that an attractive appearance is of great significance not only for daily life but also for the job. However, it is unwise to judge one person by the appearance for the following reasons. On the one hand, with the advancement of science technology and medical level, people can transform their surface by all means. On the other hand, the appearance should not be the merely criteria for judging an individual, considering that are more important factors, including Courteous, kind-hearted, honest and so on。
In conc lusion, it is unadvisable to judge a person by their appearance. That’s why I assert that we should pay more attention to one's inward and place high value on inner cultivation。

1. Directions:For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write an essay about the impact of information explosion by referring to the saying "a wealth of information creates a poverty of attention". You can cite examples to illustrate your point and then explain what you can do to avoid being distracted by irrelevant information? You should write at least 150 words but no more than 200 words.
Ways to Get Over Information Explosion
As a famous saying goes, “A wealth of information creates a poverty of attention”. Nowadays we are in the Information Age. Some people keep complaining about distraction by the
information explosion.
Admittedly, the new information age has brought us so much convenience that we are allowed to get enough information just with a simple click sitting in front of the computers. Nevertheless, we are also confused, annoyed, distracted and upset by an incredibly large quantity of information. For example, when searching for something online, people are easily carried away by irrelevant information and forget their original plan. Besides, some information often turns out to be useless and is actually advertisement. Therefore, it can be time-consuming and troublesome to search information online.
Then what we can do to avoid being distracted by irrelevant information? Here I have some useful tips: Firstly, make a list of what you really want before your searching. This will help you to refuse some appealing, yet irrelevant information. Secondly, find some trustful and professional sources or websites and then save and categorize them. In this case, you can easily leave some ads and useless information behind.

For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write an essay on happiness by referring to the saying “Happiness is not the absence of problems, but the ability to deal with them.” You can cite examples to illustrate your point and then explain how you can develop your ability to deal with problems and be happy. You should write at least 150 words but no more than 200 words.
Happiness – Go for it
In this long journey we call "life", everybody is in pursuit of happiness and has their own interpretation of happiness. An inspiring idea is that happiness is not the absence of problems, but the ability to deal with them, which reveals the very truth about happiness. It cannot be achieved through waiting, but only through striving.
There is no way that life always progresses as we wish. Problems may occur and we find ourselves in trouble, but it doesn't mean we are deprived of happiness. There are numerous examples for us to follow: disabled people overcoming obstacles, patients fighting against disease, poverty-stricken people achieving their dreams -- all these inspiring heroes. Their lives are definitely not problem-free, but they have found happiness by courageously solving problems. Therefore, it is essential to develop the ability to deal with problems. We need to muster our courage and confidence to face the fact. Meanwhile, we need to find effective ways to cope with them.
In a word, if we stay strong and approach problems effectively, there will be no storm in life that we cannot weather. And after the storm, happiness is within our reach.
3. Directions:
For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write an essay commenting on the remark “the greatest use of life is to spend it for something that will outlast it.” You can give examples to illustrate your point and then explain what you will do to make your life more meaningful. You should write at least 150 words but no more than 200 words.
Among all the highlighted topics, there is “how to live a meaning life?” Everyone has his or her own opinion. As the saying has it, “the greatest use of life is to spend it for something that will outlast it.” I cannot agree any more.
If our life is just to pursue something for ourselves, we will surely feel fruitless and meaningless when we grow old. From Steve Job’s bibliography, we can get that the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do. Steve Jobs has brought a great many changes to our world. His life, although short, definitely outlast. That’s a life worth living. Therefore, if there is a way to make my life meaningful, it should be to find something I’m interested in and also helpful to others or the whole society. Only in this way can I keep my passion throughout my life until I finally fulfil my life.

Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write an essay commenting on the rema rk “Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s need, but not every man’s greed”. You may cite s ome examples support you view. You should write at least 150 words but no more than 200 words.
Earth, as a remark has it, provides enough to satisfy every man’s need, but not every man’s gre ed. In other words, natural resources of the world are abundant enough to meet the demand of hu man beings. Nevertheless, should people exploit natural resources of the Earth recklessly and exce ssively, these resources would be exhausted one day. Simple as the remark may sound, it conveys a thought-provoking notion that we should effectively protect, rationally exploit and economize on n atural resources.
Saving such resources as water, coal, oil and wood could ensure the sustainable development of the society and environment. Otherwise, nothing would be left for the future generation. The Amaz on rainforest, which is called the lung of the Earth, is a case in point. Due to deforestation, the are a of the Amazon rainforest has been dwindling year by year and many species there are endangere d.
In short, we have only one Earth. On no account could we exploit natural resources excessively. Hence, it is imperative for us to cherish and protect the nature for the benefit of future generation s and ourselves. Only in this way can we preserve a beautiful, harmonious, abundant and varied w orld.

write an essay entitled Man and Computer by commenting on the saying, “The real danger is not that the computer will begin to think like man, but that man will begin to think like the computer.”
Man and Computer
It is believed that the computer is bringing the world into a brand new era. At the time the computer was invented, scientists, marveling at its calculating speed, felt that they had created a miracle. Nowadays, the function of the computer is no longer confined to calculation; it permeates people’s daily l ives and has become an inseparable part of human society.
People become so heavily dependent on computers that it is hard to imagine the life without computers. Therefore, some people are worried that “The real danger is not that the computer will thin k like man, but man will think like the computer.” Their concern does make sense. Indeed, some people spend such a long time working on computers that they have few interactions with people in real life. According to a research, too many hours in front of a computer may lead to a poker face and interpersonal isolation. This fact should arouse our attention, because unlike computers, human beings are social creatures that need emotional connections with others. Yet, it is also unnecessary for us to be overwhelmed by the negative impacts of computers. After all, we humans are intelligent and will be able to figure out better ways to make improvements.

The impact of the Internet on interpersonal communication 要求:commenting on "Dad:Hi sweetie, how was school, today? Daughter: You can read all about it on my blog, Dad"
范文:
In contemporary society, our life is filled with a variety of anecdotes or stories, and the followi ng is no exception: "DadHi sweetie, how was school, today? Daughter: You can read all about it o n my blog, Dad." Funny as it seems, this conversation can be naturally associated with the impact s of Internet on our life: In an era of Internet, the time for interpersonal communication is impaire d by online chats or blogs
Apparently, the impacts of the Internet on interpersonal communication are diverse. For one t hing, as a vital invention, Internet brings great convenience to our communication, eliminates the barrier of distance, and helps humans to keep in touch wherever and whenever. For another, it is I nternet that does not enables family members, friends or classmates to communicate more in a fac e-to-face way. One case in point is that youngsters may spend hours chatting with acquaintances t hrough QQ or MSN, but rarely do they talk with other face to face. Unfortunately, it we let this tre nd to continue as it is, the interpersonal relationship will, definitely, become alienated.
To my understanding, it is advisable for people to communicate more with their families, frien ds and acquaintances in real life instead of merely through the Internet. Do bear in mind: Internet is just a tool. (213words)
The Influence of the Internet on Interpersonal Communication。
