Ⅱ.阅读理解
One-quarter of the US workforce could be doing their jobs
at home if all those able to telemute chose to do so,according
to a study on Wednesday which said many still elect to work at
the office.
All those people working from home could translate into
annual gasoline savings of $3.9 billion, according to the National Technology Readiness Survey.
But the study also found that about 14 percent of the workforce has the option to telemute but chooses not to.As the study’s principal researcher,Professor P.K. Kannan, put it:That seems to suggest that even if employers were to say tomorrow that everybody had the option of telemuting and that it would save a lot of gas, that’s not going to happen.
What’s going on?Some of it is obvious:people like to go to the office for social reasons, even if their work tasks don’t require it.And that’s not just to be around other people. Our social needs also include being seen, and making “right” impressions on bosses and colleagues. Our own research at Work Design Collaborative is pletely consistent with that interpretation.
So how are we actually going to realize the energy-saving opportunities that we’re missing? It seems to me there are two very basic actions called for.
First, organizations must make distributed work not only available but expected by more employees.pany policies and financial incentives can easily “push” workers into changing their patterns.Note that I am not advocating making everyone a full-time telemuter. But just getting half of the workforce to work from home or in a nearby facility two days a week would save 20% of
the gasoline now being consumed by moving people from homes to offices.
Second,we also need some national public policy initiatives to encourage people to work from home. It’s time to realize just how critical telemuting and distributed work are to our national security—on several levels. It’s about reducing our dependence on foreign sources of energy. It’s about business continuity in the face of natural disasters(Katrina, etc.) and/or acts of terrorism. And perhaps most importantly of all,it’s about reducing greenhouse gases as we address the global climate crisis I wrote about yesterday in An Incon v enient Truth.
16.What can we learn from the first paragraph?
A.One-quarter of the US workforce is now doing their jobs at home.
B.The people who prefer to work from home can not afford to telemute.
C.Although they can telemute,Americans still prefer to work at office.
D.More and more people who can telemute prefer to work from home.
17.According to the study, people don’t choose to work from home because________.
A.the working culture now is still not favorable
B.people want to meet their social needs
C.people are afraid of falling behind their colleagues
D.people can’t work well without teamwork
18.According to the passage, the main benefit for people to work from home is that________.
A.there would be less traffic jams
B.working efficiency could be greatly increased

Ⅲ. 任务型读写
I used to be the messiest person alive. Over the years, through watching others and by trial and error,I have finally found ways to e up with plans, organize them and follow through with them.
Make an outline of everything you need to have and do to make your plan happen. Make a list of all of the steps that need to be followed and think about what need to be done.
Detail everything thoroughly and read it over so you can start ing up with some ways of how to carry out your plans. You should ensure that different ways are needed at hand. Therefore,if for some reason one way doesn’t work, one of the other ones will.
mitting yourself to finishing at least part if not all of your plan at once is also necessary. If you make a promise to yourself to finish before a specific time, make sure that you carry that out,and be sure to do everything within the time frame you set for yourself.
Don’t try to deal with more things all at a time. All that does is to delay your progress, distract you and make you lose your interest, motivation and energy.
Carrying out an effective plan requires being as organized as possible. You will only achieve this by sticking to the order of the plan and not deviating or trying to do more at a time.
Last but not the least, you should never give up things mid-project. It will only annoy everyone around you including yourself.
So,don’t be afraid of organization. The older we get,the more necessary it bees to have the skills necessary to follow through with confidence and to be able to carry through plans in an organized and manageable way. It pays to be organized, after all.
