There have been many fine films over the past several years aboutcharacters struggling with Alzheimer’s disease. But few of them have gone as deeply and frighteningly into the corners of adeterioratingmind as The Father,a powerful new drama built around a spellbinding performance from Anthony Hopkins.
At this point in his long career,Hopkinswould seem to have exhausted his ability to surprise us, but his work here is nothing short of astonishing. His character, also named Anthony, is 80 years old and has dementia. At the beginning of the movie, his daughter, Anne — played by Olivia Colman — stops by hisLondonapartment to check on him. Her father's condition has taken a turn for the worse, and his temper has become severe enough to send his latest live in nurse packing. Anthony is stubborn and defiant and insists that he can manage on his own. But that's clearly not the case, given his habit of misplacing his things and his inability to remember names and faces, Anne's included.
As The Father goes on, the more it becomes clear that it's his own mind that's playing tricks on him. What makes the movie so unsettling is the way it wires us directly into his subjective experience, so that the foundations of the story seem to shift at random from scene to scene. A man suddenly appears in the apartment, claiming to be Anne's husband, which is odd, since just a few moments earlier, Anne seemed to be single. Anne goes out shopping for groceries, but when she returns, she's played not by Olivia Colman but by another actress, Olivia Williams. Even the apartment itself begins to shift. You notice puzzling differences-wasn't there a lamp on that hallway table just a moment ago?
The story in The Father may be complicated but it's also heartbreakingly simple: man grows old and loses his memory, and his daughter, after lifetime of love and devotion, must begin the long painful process of saying
goodbye.Hopkinsshows us Anthony's struggle to keep his sense about him. It's a striking performance-and an impossible one to forget.

An unmanned Chinese spacecraft left the earth on a trip to the planet Mars on Thursday. The launch(发射)marks the start of one of China's most important space explorations. China's national space agency launched the spacecraft called Tianwen-1 fromthe Wenchang Spacecraft Launch Center on Hainan Island.
The name Tianwen means “Questions to Heaven” in Chinese. The spacecraft took off on China's largest carrier rocket, the Long March 5, and about 36 minutes later, the spacecraft, including an orbiter(轨道飞行器)and a rover(漫游车),was sent into the Earth-Mars orbit. It is expected to reach the orbit of the red planet next February. Tianwen-1 will finish three scientific goals—orbiting the red planet, landing on the Mars and sending a rover to the landing site.
Tianwen-1 carries several scientific instruments to observe the planet's atmosphere and surface. It will do a series of scientific researches on the planet's soil, geological structure, environment, atmosphere and water. Besides its daily work of exploring the surface of Mars for 90 days, it will also report back to the earth about its
experiences on the red planet, which is millions of miles away. According to experts, discovering signs of life will be its first and most important scientific goal.
Tianwen-1's successful landing will make China the second nation to place a spacecraft on Mars. The United States has landed eight vehicles on Mars since 1976. China will be the first to successfully orbit, land and place a vehicle in the same mission. This is China's first independent mission to Mars. The task in 2011 failed when a Russian rocket carrying a Chinese orbiter had problems after launch, and was unable to escape the Earth orbit. Last year, China's Chang e-4 spacecraft became the first to make a landing on the far side of the moon.
8. When will Tianwen-1 enter the orbit of Mars?

A PhD student inMichigandefended her paper while wearing a skirt madeof rejection letters she received while studying. 29-year-old Caitlin Kirby printed out 17 of her rejection letters — from scholarships, academic journals, and conferences — then folded each one into a fan. She connected them in rows, and by the end she designed the item into a skirt and wore it.
She said that the idea behind her unique clothing item came out of a desire to normalize rejection and take pride in overcoming it. "The whole process of revisiting those old letters and making that skirt sort of reminded me that you have to apply to a lot of things to succeed," she said. "A natural part of the process is to get rejected along the way."
Caitlin's adviser, Julie Libarkin, a professor of earth and environmental science atMichiganStateUniversity, also encourages the acceptance of failure in her students. Libarkin believes it's important for students to get into habit of applying for things, and to get used to the feeling of rejection, so she encourages them to chase after any opportunity that comes their way. If a student doesn't get the grant or the spot in the academic journal, that's okay. They'll still have learned something in the process.
As for Caitlin? Her rejections over the years have led to great things: Since her doctorate, she's won a scholarship to do further research on urban agriculture inGermany.
Currently, she's a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. As for what the future holds? "I'm prepared to receive a few more rejection letters along the way," she joked heartily, "Maybe I'll make a longer skirt."
12. What can we learn about Caitlin Kirby's rejection letters?
A. She received 17 rejections in total.
B. 29 of her rejections were from journals.
C. The rejections were connected into a fan.
D. She made some rejection letters into a skirt.
13. What is Julie Libarkin's attitude towards Caitlin's action?
A. Favorable.
B. Ambiguous.
C. Skeptical.
D. Opposed.
14. Which of the following words can best describe Catlin?
A. Creative and considerate.
B. Caring and determined.
C. Optimistic and humorous.
D. Generous and intelligent.
15. Which of the following may Caitlin agree with?
A. Hard work pays off.
B. Education is the entrance to success.
C. Self-respect earns more respect.
D. One needs to normalize failures.

选项中有两项为多余选项How long does a year last?____16____Your parents might say that a whole year can pass―in the blink of an eye. Whydoes time seem to pass faster as we get older?
___17___This physical change causes the rate at which we take in and process new information to decline. Babies, for example, move their eyes much more often than adults because they're processing images at a faster rate. They take in a lot of information and do many things in a single day.____18____However, as people's brains degrade over time, fewer images are processed in the same amount of time. Therefore, older people receive less information during a day than younger people. This causes things to seem as though they're happening more quickly.
___19___People may measure time by the number of memorable events that can be recalled within a certain period. Have you ever noticed that when you recall your firsts they seem to be in slow motion? That's because when something is a first, there are many exciting things to remember. Recalling these memories makes you feel like they took forever.
For many adults, life is routine. When they look back, they might feel like there are not many novel things to remember.____20____
A. Children might say that a year lasts forever.
B. Different people have different feelings toward time.
C. Therefore, time seems to be moving faster to them.

Smartphone apps certainly make our life easier. And now, it looks like they could even help do homework. Recent years have seen the release of a various of study aid apps aimed at student. Most of these apps allow users to take a photo of our schoolwork and the correct answers will just appear on their smartphones. Convenient they are, these apps present problems with both parents and teachers. Most students just copy the answers from the app, while only a few use the app to study. Better still, some students even use the study aid apps as social networks. Therefore, this isn’t to say that study aid apps should be completely ban. Parents and teachers should give necessary guidance to help students to take the advantage of the study aid apps’ strengths and avoiding their
weaknesses.
第二节书面表达(满分25分)
52.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I was excited as I walked into the classroom. Today was my birthday! I set down the box of treats I had brought for the class. Birthdays were a big deal in our classroom. The birthday person brought treats for the class, and he or she got to choose someone our teacher called “the birthday helper" to pass them out. My friends, Andrea, Crystal and I had talked about choosing each other on our birthdays. I still hadn't decided which of my two best friends I was going to choose. I knew both of them were expecting me to pick them, but I just couldn't decide. I didn't want either one of them to be mad at me.
A loud shout stopped my thoughts. “Hi, April!" shouted Lisa.
No one liked Lisa. She had dirty hair that looked like it always needed to be washed. The kids made fun of her a lot. She annoyed me sometimes, too, but I tried to be nice to her.
"Did you bring treats today?"
“Yes," I answered.“ Today is my birthday!"
Lisa's parents were divorced(离婚的),and her dad gave her and her mom lots of problems. Lisa once told me that I was the only friend she had. At times I felt embarrassed to hang out with her, but she never seemed to notice when I didn't want her around.
The bell rang, and we quickly went to our seats. Our teacher, Mrs. Doughty, started class, and I pushed aside my thoughts. The rest of the morning flew by, and soon it was time for the lunch break.
Mrs. Doughty announced that today was my birthday. I forced a smile, but my stomach turned over. I retrieved(取回) my cupcakes at the back of the room and slowly went to stand beside Mrs. Doughty. I didn't know what to do! Should I choose Andrea or Crystal?
Then Lisa caught my attention.
“No one ever chooses me on their birthday!" she said loudly. Her face looked so sad. I saw the hurt she felt from the rejection(嫌弃) she constantly faced from our classmates.
