Personal Statement
My name is Ge Ren, from Chengdu, a city full of inspiration in southeast of China. I am now a bachelor student at the final phase, in Sichuan University where I have achieved a rudimentary knowledge of finance management. I would like to continue my study there for international accounting and finance courses. I am confident that I will be a capable student in your department with the major of MSc Accounting and Finance, if accepted.
The reason why I want to apply for the program is that I have learned something relative from my undergraduate school. Thus, this program can keep me study further based on my current knowledge. Plus, finance is what I am really interested in, so this reason strengthens my thoughts to keep my deeper study in this area and never give up. Britain, where the finance was born, is well developed and prospered. Compared with other countries, it is much more beneficial for our international students to experience and acquire some cutting-edge thoughts in terms of finance. Considering my hometown Chengdu is booming at a staggering speed and tons of prestigious enterprises are pouring into this market, which necessitates more talents in this field. Thus, studying in UK not only helps me to enrich my experience and theoretical acknowledge, but also provides me with more employment opportunities and choices. In addition, the reasons I applied for you university are as follows: firstly, I admire your outstanding teaching quality and comprehensive methodology; It concentrates more on presentation, teamwork and mixture of lecture and tutorial to apply the knowledge ,instead forcing students to grasp what teachers taught through force-feed methodology. Furthermore, I expect to experience the good learning atmosphere and first-class facilities; meanwhile, your historic and aesthetic buildings which I really appreciate .Last but not the least, your International Students Center can serve us overseas students considerable.
And now, I will express some my ideas about present circumstance in this industry, especially in China. As far as I am considered, the nation is over-scrutinized corporations, which results in the fact that small enterprises are increasingly at a
disadvantage, while large corporations are always having advantages that can more easily acquire social resources. To be more precise, nowadays domestic financing channels almost are financial institution making loans and enterprises do not have qualifications to issue bonds. Furthermore, medium-sized and small enterprises are at disadvantages, compared with large ones, in terms of credit and reputation. As a result, it is much more easily for large-sized companies to acquire social resources and money to develop and reinforce their status. In my opinion, relatively loose governmental supervision can benefit the whole market and make the market vigorous. The authorities can release some preferential policies for small-sized corporations Through the processing of my undergraduate study in Sichuan University, not only did I grasp theoretical knowledge firmly, but I applied those theories into practice. For instance, I joined the games of simulation stock trading after studied Securities Investments .During the period, combined with theoretical knowledge I had learned, I had to determine when and whether I should buy in or sell the stock, linked fundamental analysis to technical analysis. What’s more, I should judge whether short selling is strong or not. Finally, I had to distinguish the factual index that can reflect company’s operating conditions realistically from the data that was intentionally perfect to attract immature investors, which helped to make a decision about which company should invest. Last but not least, I got 98 in this subject thanks to practical learning.
When I was a junior student, I took part in a competition about ERP sand table experiment and acted as a CFO. From this experience, I understood that it was difficult to operate capital efficiently and make plentiful profits. I had to consider how we can get the maximum benefits from scarce resources and how to allocate distribution of money appropriately; the risk of financing should be taken into considered as well. I, as a CFO, responded for the enterprise’s financial condition that is the fundamental of co mpany’s operation. Therefore，I paid more attention to the index like capital and liability ratio , debt structure and etc at any time to avoid accounting insolvency in the end.
I came out top in professional grades approximately over 85.
This year from July 10th to August 10th, I had a banking internship, which is engaged in the work of public and private business and operation business in CHINA CITIC BANK. There was no doubt that I have learned a lot during this one-month period. At the beginning, I learned things much more firmly through internship, although I learned some knowledge about financing product, fun and fixed investment and etc, in university. From this internship, the most beneficial thing for me is to learn about how to spread out the CITIC Bank financial product successfully. There are three valuable points which needs to be considered thoughtfully: firstly, in order to increase the working efficiency, the main part is to make sure who our target customers should be before spreading the produ cts. What’s more, we should always express ourselves confidently and clearly to make sure our customers fully understand how they can get benefits from our financial products. Also, sometimes it is nature to meet any misunderstandings, impolite behaviors or refusals from the customers. In this situation, positive attitude is the key to success. Whenever we encounter some setbacks and failure, the positive attitude can always encourage ourselves to deal with any challenges and make us find the best solution. Based on these valuable skills and attitude, we eventually got 20 potential customers during that day, and also got the highly approval from our company leaders.
After graduation, I decide to return my motherland on condition that I don not have employment opportunities in UK, In the future, I expect to work in the financial industry or financial department in corporation.。
