The effort to prevent climate change can tackle the root cause of this pressing problem as all countries take steps to cut carbon emissions. It is a widely-held idea in the scientific circle that rising world temperature and extreme weather events are attributed to accumulation of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. The only way to prevent these situations from deteriorating is, therefore, to encourage people to stay away from energy-intensive habits, such as driving, to minimise carbon footprint. By comparison, the measures to adapt to climate change would sooner or later fail to achieve any effect, as the impact of climate change will continue to increase.

Another advantage of reversing climate change is that scientists have incentives to develop technology to alleviate pollution, resulting in great improvements in the environment. Carbon dioxide emissions are not only responsible for unpredictable weather conditions but also a culprit of poor air quality, which kills millions of people every year. If the government imposes green tax to fight global warming, engieers are motivated to discover eco-friendly technology to meet the fuel and electricity needs of people without creating extra emissions. This would not happen if people were concerned with how to get prepared for changing climate.
