When most people think of “beautiful”, they think of movie stars. I used to be one of them. But now my opinion (观念) of beauty has completely changed.
I was with my parents and little brothers at the McDonald’s (麦当劳). Since there are only tables with four chairs, I’m always the one to sit at a nearby table by myself. Usually, I’m a little unhappy, but not this time.
A woman was sitting at a table, two tables away. She was young and pretty, not the traditional beauty, but a warm one. She had thick dark-brown hair and wore common clothes, but none of those was why she was so beautiful to me.
Her children spread the ice-cream all over their clothes, and she just kissed them and that’s all. She didn’t get angry. The love and warmth this woman generated (产生) completely changed my view of beauty. She generated warmth like the sun, and her children were little planets (行星) around her.
She made a difference to her children’s lives. Instead of making them feel bad about themselves, she made them feel great about everything. That is true beauty: to make a positive (积极的) difference to another’s life through warmth and caring.
4.How many people were there in the writer’s family?

B.make a great influence on the world.
C.are successful in both work and the family.
D.make a positive difference in others’ life.
Anger isn’t a good feeling. Anger may make us feel uncomfortable, but it’s also normal. Unluckily, many of us have been used to keeping our feelings hidden. A research suggests that this can have long-term bad influences(影响) on our health.
Is it better to cry or break things whenever something makes us angry? The research points out that when we show our anger in this way, we can’t probably get on well with our friends and our family. The more time we keep being angry, the worse result we’ll get. So how can we deal with our angry feelings in a right way?
First, know what makes us angry. Anger is often caused by feelings of fear, disappointment and so on.
Also, pay closer attention to those everyday things that will make us angry. We may get angry in the long lines at the store. Take a step back and consider that it isn’t personal. Everyone in the line has dinner to make, just like us.
One way of dealing with(处理) anger is to talk about it. The study has shown that if we name our feelings, we can actually calm ourselves down and feel better.
Do some controlled breathing or find some physical activities. Exercise helps with feelings of anger.
If we learn to deal with anger, we will be happier and healthier.
8.According to the text, if we hide our angry feelings, we may ________.
A.find it hard to solve problems B.lose our friendships with others

A.How to deal with anger?B.Why are you angry?
C.What makes you angry?D.When to deal with anger?
Studies show that children with hands-on (事事过问的) parents are more likely to do well in school. These parents ask teachers to challenge their children and help their children with their homework. “They also encourage their kids to try their best,” says William Sears, the author of The Successful Child: What Parents Can Do to Help Kids Turn Out Well (2002) and The Discipline Book (1995).
It is also important for parents to spend time talking with their children. Studies show that the families of successful children often have dinner together. When talking about school, they pay more attention to what a child is learning than what grade he/she has got. In this situation, children start to feel confident and happy.
Here are some of the other characteristics (特征) of children who do well in school.
Understanding
Successful children understand how other people feel, which makes them work well in a group. “These kids respect others,” says Stanley Greenspan, the author of Building Healthy Minds(1999). If a child laughs at others, a parent should say, “I want you to think about how you would feel if you were laughed in that way.”
A love of achievement
Successful children are good in many ways, such as their subjects, sports and after-school activities. “These kids look forward to challenges, because they provide chances to shine. Parents help their children taste success in one activity, so they try for success in other ways,” says William Sears.
A love of learning
“A child who gets good grades always loves learning,” says William Sears. “And parents should help children develop this love,” he says, “Their attitude (态度) is important. Parents should teach their kids to regard (认为) learning as an advantage, not a problem.”
12.From the second paragraph, we know that ________.

D.parents feel confident and happy to be with their children x

A.children’s attitude towards learning is important

C.parents should help their children to develop a love of learning
D.children should regard learning as an advantage, not a problem
