让慈善不只是一句美丽口号

教学目标:
1、知识目标:To master the key vocabulary.
2、能力目标:To understand and use the target language.
To read the article fluently and understand the main idea.
Listening and Oral practice.
3、情感目标:To learn about charity and support charity.
教学重难点:

To enable the students to infer general meaning from the title and context and predict the meaning of special words from context.

教学思路:
教材中设置的情境是虚拟人物Amy对ORBIS医生的工作很感兴趣,而后与好友Daniel分享她的想法,两人随之开展一系列其他活动。
我在上此课之前思考,若简单地依照课文中的虚拟情境要求学生来帮助虚拟主人公来完成各项任务,学生可能不会对慈善的主旨有深刻理解,也不易对主题引起其自身共鸣。
既然慈善扶贫是可号召全民参与的社会公益事业,ORBIS组织又于现实中存在,为何不干脆将虚拟隐去,还原真实呢?
于是,本课设计从最初的导入到之后每一个环节,具体到课堂每一个问题的设置,我都给学生营造出真实情境的情感体验,期待学生由慈善的旁观者升级为体验者。
大体构思主线可从下面的流程图中展示:
本课整个阅读教学过程共分三段:快速阅读、分段评读和全文通读。
设置多种阅读方案,如问答、排序、判断和听读等。
阅读后阶段设置的短文填空练习旨在回忆和巩固全文,演讲环节期待学生在巩固所学的同时获得情感提升,最后将给出中国奥比斯筹募发展部的地址、电话、电邮、传真和ORBIS的国际官方网站(),号召学生为慈善身体力行,课堂将引向高潮。
教学片段:
片段一(热身与生词导入):
Before the class, show some information about ORBIS on the screen and play a piece of melodious music at the same time.(因为本课词汇量大,内容深难度较大,课前投影放印部分奥比斯组织的背景资料,伴有低调悠扬的乐声,让学生在休息之余先阅读做些铺垫。
)
Class begins.
(画一只类似奥比斯徽标的眼睛图案在黑板上,在课堂初始此举对第一时间吸引学生的注意力非常有效,随之提出问题引发学生对本课相关内容初步思
考。
)Ask: What does it look like?
Ss’ answer: An eye.
Ask: Do you think eyes are very important for you?
Ss’ answer: Yes!
Say: Everyone wants to have good eyesight. We all want to see our colourful world, but there are so many blind people. They can’t see anything.(与此同时投影出一些盲人图片和关键字句,图示失明的严重性,启发学生关注与思考。
)
Ask: Do you know how many people there are in the world?
(自然引入课文重要句型:投影出There are about 6,500,000,000 people. Blindness affects about 45,000,000 people, mostly in poor countries. 两句中数字均用醒目颜色标识,突出失明困扰人群之广,揭示情况的严重性,初步对学生形成震撼效果,同时教授出现的新词汇。
)
Show the following sentences on the screen: About 80 percent of these cases can be cured or prevented. But the poor patients don’t have the money for medical treatment.(向学生展示事情有转机,但是很多眼疾患者因为资金问题,遇到困难。
)Say: Luckily, there are a lot of volunteer doctors.(展示一名志愿者医生图片,教授词汇volunteer和词组volunteer doctor。
此刻学生为贫穷的眼疾患者看到希望。
)
(展示一群ORBIS医生图片,身后是ORBIS专用飞机。
配有下列字幕:There are a lot of volunteer doctors. They are ORBIS doctors.其中主题词组ORBIS doctors 旋转飞入,加强学生对本课主题印象。
)Say: They want to help the poor people. They are ORBIS doctors. (经过前面铺垫,引入ORBIS概念。
)
(展示ORBIS的徽标)Say: It is the logo of ORBIS .Please look at the plane in the logo. Could you guess why there is a plane here? (在学生猜测后展示下句:It means ORBIS uses a flying eye hospital to visit poor countries.紧接着展示一架ORBIS飞机的图片。
)
Say: It is a special plane.
Ask: Why is it special? What’s inside the plane? Let’s have a look.(话音落即展示一架ORBIS飞机的FLASH,最初显示的是飞机银白的外壳,但点击左下角的句子See full interior view.时机身会现出ORBIS机舱独特的整体内部结构图,图片更特别的地方是当鼠标从飞机驾驶舱指到机尾,会相应并独立显示出ORBIS各个舱
的结构图和名称。
依次为:Flight Deck,Classroom,Audio / Visual Room,Laser Treatment Room,Operating Room,Sterilization Room,Recovery
Room,Communications Center.出现与本课相关的Classroom和Operating Room时稍作停留,让学生猜其用途。
)
Ask: What do ORBIS doctors do on the plane? (顺势引出文中重要句型,,如:They operate on the patients on the plane. 教授一些重要词汇。
)
(在介绍医生们在ORBIS飞机上的部分工作后,自然导入Reading正文,具体操作入下:)
Say: Do you think these volunteer doctors are very helpful?Do you want to know more about their work? Let's meet Dr. Ma. He is one of the ORBIS doctors. Do you want to have an interview with him?
片段二(阅读后巩固与拓展):
Ask: After learning so much about ORBIS, what do you think of Dr. Ma's work?
Ss' answer: Meaningful!/Great!/...
Keep on asking: Do you want more volunteer doctors to support ORBIS?
Ss' answer: Yes.
Say: Suppose you are Dr. Ma and you hope more doctors can join you. Please work in groups and try to give a speech. Each group chooses one student to give the speech in front of the class. (投影给出演讲的头尾部分,此举既降低任务难度,学生在完成任务时又突出了本课重点,学生将更自信地表达,参与感也更强。
)
After the speech, ask: Do you think more people should support ORBIS besides doctors? How can we help?
Ss' answer: We can support their work by sending donations to ORBIS.(学生极有可能选用课文中这一句来回答。
)
Ask: Where can we send our donations? (投影出中国奥比斯筹募发展部的地址、电话、电邮、传真,全英文表述。
)
Say: If you are interested in ORBIS,you can also get more information on the website of ORBIS.(投影出ORBIS的国际官方网站()。
课上到这儿,估计孩子们会对帮助ORBIS跃跃欲试了。
)
教学反思:
1.导入时舍得削减,突出主次。
本课词汇量极大,共有21个,新词导入时压缩至11个核心词汇,这样做的好处是避免课堂头重脚轻,多留时间给学生阅读。
而且留一些词汇于后面的阅读中让学生自己猜测,又能锻炼其根据上下文猜测生词词义的能力,从而增强阅读能力。
2.及时抓住学生心理,投其所好。
当含有ORBIS飞机内部结构的FLASH投影出来时,我立即捕捉到学生好奇欣喜的目光,当下果断在此停留,多一些时间给学生讨论研究,先让学生过把瘾再说。
在我看来,课堂上应将资源充分利用起来,不能为达成课堂目标一味往前赶,细节才能培养兴趣,长远来说有助于培养学生学习英语的兴趣。
学习好象期待成长的小苗,若栽培者忽视其过程中被灌溉的愉悦,又怎会结出美丽的硕果?
3.关注学生接受情况,及时纠错与评价。
演讲部分,第一位上来的学生对演讲主旨领会有偏差,她的演讲文中侧重于号召普通人来捐款支持ORBIS的工作,而忽略了演讲的受众是医生,主旨应是号召其他医生来争当志愿者。
在她演讲完,我立即指出问题所在,而后面的同学上来就完成的非常好了。
我认为,坚持纠错是很有必要的,有助于树立孩子对任务主旨的重视和把握,也培养了孩子追求完美的表达的习惯。
