四级阅读理解ice
Ice is water, but once it contains gas, it can become a combustible energy. American scientists recently conducted a feasibility study on the exploitation of a compound of methane and water sealed in ice. Hull of the U.S. Geological Survey said that this material is much like dry ice, which can be burned and stored 450 meters below the seabed of the continental shelf.
It is estimated that this kind of combustible ice contains twice as much energy as the total combustion of minerals. At the annual meeting of the American Association for the advancement of science and technology, an expert group pointed out that exploiting this rich energy may be a major challenge facing contemporary scientific engineering. Combustible ice buried deep under the seabed or permafrost was formed in hundreds of thousands of years after the combination of methane produced by biochemical action and hydration.
Once it leaves the underground high-pressure area, it will
disappear into the air. Deron of the U.S. Geological Survey warned that this is a very difficult and cautious thing. An accident can cause the seabed to collapse, resulting in a large release of methane, which will greatly aggravate the global greenhouse effect and seriously damage the environment.
This part of combustible ice contains three times as much methane as the current atmosphere, and the greenhouse effect produced by methane is 10 times that of carbon monoxide. Later this year, the United States will send an exploration team to the coast of Carolina to explore a combustible ice deposit equivalent to Rhode Island, which contains 30 trillion cubic meters of methane, which can be used by the United States for 70 years.
