Construction:
Hot knife edge for webbing ends and guy line ends
Capture a minimum 1.3 cm (0.5 in) webbing in seam
Stitches per inch: Minimum ?6; Maximum ?8
All lap-felled, inverted and bounded seams shall have two rows of stitching. Seam Allowance 1.3 cm (0.5 in) on all sewn seams
Backstitching 1.5 cm (0.59 in) mandatory at end of all sewn seams
Bar Tack or backstitch: -body: of tent: pin & ring web loops
-rainfly:corner web attachment, guy line web attachments Floor:
Inverted seams with Polyester Bindings
Heat/pressure seams on floor; 2.5 cm (1 in) overlap
Corners and all ground level stitching to be welded. All welds shall be fully bonded without loose edges.
(Refer to Section 8 for Corner Weld Reinforcement details)
Reinforcement for corner welds: A piece of "V" shaped PE reinforcement material shall be added to each corner weld when attaching stake webbing to welded corners as shown in Section 8 - Pin & Ring System - Pin & Ring to Pole All guy out loops shall have guy out triangle reinforcement when attached to rainfly
(Refer to Section 8 for GuyOut Triangle Construction details)
Door Zipper cuff: Apply trim to the outside edge of all zipper cuffs. All zipper cuffs shall lay flat against zippers. The length of zipper cuff shall be adequate to shield zippers from a 30 degree slanted rain shower
(Refer to Section 8 for Door Zipper Cuff Height details)
Toggle/Loop for door to be assembled with Toggles outside & Loops to be sewn inside of tent
Zippers to be installed with teeth facing inside the tent
Cool Air Port & Electrical Port: Seam taped seams as shown in Section 8 When installing zipper for electrical port the ends of zipper tape shall not be sewn directly into wall seam
(Refer to Section 8 for Electrical Port Zipper Tape details)
Pocket will be made of mesh trimmed with fabric.
1.1 A-Major (AQL = 0.0 )
This classification includes defects that could cause serious injury, that are unsafe, hazardous, or illegal. Products that are misbranded or not in the correct packaging or incorrect, unscannable or missing bar code or part numbers are also included.
1.1.1 All Bar Codes on packaging and literature will be correct.
Product will not be missing or have incorrect Bar Code
or part number.
Bar Code(s) will be scannable and will match the part
number, UPC code and I2of5 code shown in Supply
Chain Data.
Point of Sale (POS) package bar code or hang tag bar
code will
scan as UPCA format.
(Note: POS & hang tag may not always be applicable to
every unit.
Refer to Section 6 for type of packaging and POS
marking.)
Master Carton bar code will scan as I 2 of 5 format.
1.1.2 Product will be in the correct Coleman?packaging per Section 6.0.
Packaging will represent the product accurately.
Country of origin will be printed on the Point of Sale
(POS) package.
1.1.3 Product will be marked with country of origin as specified in Section 5.0.
Visual Inspection.
1.1.4 Product will pass Sharp Edge Test:
If a non-functional sharp edge is found to be in
question, the sharp edge test per ASTM F963-96A,
Intertek ETL Standard or Underwriters Laboratories
(UL) 1439 will be performed.
Any sharp edge that fails the test will be an A-major
defect.
1.1.5 Warning label will be included as indicated per Section 3.3 ('05):
Warning label will be permanently attached and will be
legible with information indicated in Section 5.3.
Part Number, Country of Origin & Date Code will be
included on warning label.
1.1.6 Warning Information on Point of Sale Packaging:
Visual inspection.
Warning information as stated in Section 6 will be
included on POS packaging.
1.2 Functional (AQL = 1.0 )
This classification includes defects that cause the product or
package not to function as intended.
1.2.1 Packaging will contain product securely:
Packaging will protect and contain the product securely.
Packaging that is not saleable will be a functional
defect. (for example, bulging package, open seams,
etc.)
Bulging Package to be defined as boxed package that
will not lay flat on all sides due to sides bowing out.
1.2.2 Product Packaging:
Product will be packaged per Special Requirements if
detailed in
Section 6.4 & 6.5.
1.2.3 Setup System:
Pole styles will match tent style for set up system (for
example, Pole Talon?with open end tent poles, etc).
1.2.4 Broken, cracked or splintered fiberglass poles:
Broken, cracked or splintered fiberglass poles will be
rated as a functional defect.
1.2.5 Elastic shock-cording on aluminum and fiberglass
poles:
Broken or frayed elastic shock-cord will be rated as a
functional defect.
Exposed inner core of elastic shock-cording will also be
rated as a functional defect.
There will be a knot on the end sufficient to keep the
shock-cord from passing through the I.D. of the tent
pole when fully assembled.
1.2.6 Fabric coating (Underside):
Visual inspection to ensure presence of polyurethane
coating on underside of material as called out in Section
3.3.
1.2.7 Non-functioning zipper:
All zippers will be fully functional. Bound or non-usable
zippers will be a functional defect.
Zippers which are operational, but do not operate
smoothly will be rated as a minor defect.
1.2.8 Instruction sheet will be included & packed as specified:
Visual inspection. Instruction sheet will be legible.
(Refer to Section 6.2 for specific information.)
1.2.9 Product will meet all requirements of Section 4.0 Performance Specifications:
Tests may be performed as stated in Section 4.0 of this
specification per the Coleman?Co. request.
Any destructive testing will be performed after the
general inspection. Any minor defects caused by testing
will not be counted.
1.2.10 Assembly Issues (Product Assembly):
Product will assemble & operate as intended when
following product assembly instructions enclosed with
product.
1.2.11 Missing / Broken Parts ('05):
Missing parts or pole defects that cause the product to
be unfit for use or unable to set-up will be rated as a
functional defect. (Including missing poles, rainfly,
hooks on corners, attachment buckles, missing stake
package, storage bags or guy lines needed to hold up
the tent.)
Missing gear loft, storage pockets or ties will be rated as
a Minor defect
Poles:
One (1) or more missing poles.
Broken ferrules or unattached ferrules on fiberglass poles or broken poles.
Stake loops:
One (1) or more missing stake loops.
1.2.12 Product will be constructed to dimensions specified
(Tent '05):
Note: Refer to Tent Measuring Procedure in Section 9.2
for the procedure for tent setup and method for
measuring tent size.
Coleman?tent: Dimensions will be +5%,-0% of the
specified values for interior floor size and center height.
1.2.13 Pole Length (Tent 05):
Assembled poles will be specified length:
Coleman?tents: +/- 2.5 cm (1.0 in)
Exponent?tents: +0, -1.25 cm (+0,-1/2 in)
1.3 B-Major (AQL = 1.0 )
This classification includes defects that are likely to reduce the
usability or cause premature failure of the product or package.
Products and/or packages that fail the specified tests or are
aesthetically unfit or unacceptable are included.
1.3.1 Product and components will be free from
non-functional sharp edges
Product and all components will have no non-functional
sharp edges (those not covered in Section 7.1) and be
free from burrs. No flash (molding, stamping or casting),
warped, deformed, cracked, or misshapen parts will be
allowed.
1.3.2 Product will comply with Section 5 for product markings:
Product will be marked as indicated in Section 5. Any
markings, stampings, or labels that are missing,
incorrect or is not legible will be considered a B-major
defect unless marking is covered under an A-major or
Functional.
1.3.3 Product will assemble per enclosed instruction sheet and will function as intended (Tent):
Toggle and loops will secure tent doors, rainfly
openings and window coverings as intended.
Quick clips will be appropriately sized to snap over
poles.
Quick release buckle halves will be sized properly to fit
together.
Ties and/or velcro straps will be located as indicated
and will secure tent body and rainfly to poles as
intended.
Poles will assemble easily by interlocking segments
with ferrules.
1.3.4 Product will be constructed properly (Tent/Shelter):
All features and construction features will be included
as specified in Section 3.0. (such as dividers, correct
stitch, stitch length, hot knife edge for webbing ends,
seam allowance, etc.)
1.3.5 Missing stakes:
One (1) or more missing stakes will be rated as a
B-major defect.
1.3.6 Rust:
Pole ferrules and steel poles will be properly protected
from rust and corrosion.
Visible red or zinc rust that will not wipe off will be rated
as a B-major defect.
1.3.7 Pole Scratches or paint skips:
Any scratches or paint skips on poles with metal
exposed 0.3 cm
(1/8 in) or more in width or 2.5 cm (1 in) or more in
length will
be a B-major defect.
If bare metal is not exposed, there will be no rated
defect.
1.3.8 Quick clip loops, quick release buckle loops, toggle loops and stake loops:
All quick clip loops, quick release buckle loops, toggle
loops and stake loops will be sewn into the seam 1.3
cm (.50 in) or more.
Quick clip loops, quick release buckle loops, toggle
loops and stake loops which are easily pulled out will be
rated as a B-major defect.
1.3.9 Quick clips, quick release buckles, toggles:
Quick clips, quick release buckles and toggles will not
be missing, broken or chipped.
1.3.10 Pole Sleeves:
The ends of all pole sleeves will be sewn into seam 1.3
cm (.50 In.) or more.
1.3.11 Fit of tent and rainfly:
The tent and rainfly will fit together properly. (i.e. ?if
rainfly was too tight it would crush the inner tent. If
rainfly was too loose, it would be too large for the tent &
not provide sufficient protection)
1.3.12 Stake Loops:
All Stake loops will be sewn into the seam 1.3 cm (0.50
In.) or more. Stake loops which are easily pulled out will
be rated as a B-Major defect.
1.3.13 Printing on storage bag will be legible:
There will be no missing or obviously poor quality silk
screen on the bag or a missing part of an image.
1.3.14 Improperly Packaged Parts:
All parts will be contained in shipping cartons as
outlined in Assembly Manual or "Instructions for Use"
manual or in packing contents documentation.
1.3.15 Assembly Issues (Instructions):
There will be no significant issues or steps identified as
missing when following the assembly manual.
1.3.16 Welded Corners will be constructed properly:
Four (4) edges to be fully welded.
There will be no holes around welded corner seams.
Maximum 4 mm (0.16 in) tab will be permissible at one
end of welded corner. Gentle tug on welded piece will
not separate welded corner from floor.
1.3.17 Fabric Condition:
Needle holes:
Errant run of needle hole with lengths of 5.1 cm (2.00
in) or longer in wall or floor and 2.5 cm (1.00 in) or
longer on roof will be a B-major defect.
Open Seams:
Any open seams where an opening will be inevitable
will be rated as a B-major defect.
Stitches unraveling:
Any stitches unraveling in a seam where an opening will
be inevitable will be rated as a B-major defect.
Large Holes, Rips or Tears:
Any hole, rip or tear 6.4 mm (0.25 in) or more in
diameter will be rated as a B-major defect.
Spots on fabric:
Dirt or dark oil spots in excess of 5.1 cm (2.00 in) in
diameter will be rated as a B-major defect. (Clear oil
spot of any size will be rated as a Minor defect.)
Flaws or runs in fabric:
Flaws or runs in fabric in excess of 15.2 cm (6.00 in) in
length will be rated as a B-major defect.
Thin spot in floor:
Any thin spots on floor of tent that are easily poked
through with a finger will be rated as a B-major defect.
1.3.18 Missing Components (Stuff Sack)
There will be no missing drawstring closure or barrel
lock.
1.3.19 Product will assemble per enclosed instruction
sheet and will function as intended (Shelter '05):
Ties, Quick Clips, and/or hook & loop straps will be
located as indicated and will secure canopy to poles as
indicated.
Reinforcing pieces will be located as indicated in
Section 3.4.
Poles will assemble easily by matching up grooves and
reduced sections.
Spring clips will allow pole to easily be assembled to
hub and dis-assembled with minimal effort. Refer to
Section 8.0.
1.4 Minor (AQL = 4.0 )
This classification includes defects that are minor and may or
may not be noticeable to a consumer. These defects are
usually cosmetic in nature and most likely w ill not cause
consumer dissatisfaction.
1.4.1 Finish of product and all components will not
negatively affect the appearance of the product.
Variations will not be visible when viewed at a distance
of 0.91 m (3 ft).
1.4.2 Ferrule Rust:
Any rust or corrosion on ferrules (fiberglass poles) or on
steel poles which wipes off (red rust or zinc) will be
rated as a Minor defect.
1.4.3 Unattached ferrule:
Any unattached ferrule on fiberglass poles will be rated
as a Minor defect.
1.4.4 Pole finish variation:
No color variation visible when viewed at 0.9 m (3 ft)
distance.
1.4.5 Zipper binds:
Zippers which are operational, but bind up will be rated
as a minor defect.
1.4.6 Seams will be straight, located properly and free of loose threads:
Loose threads will be trimmed to .6 cm (.25 in)
maximum length.
Unintentional pleats caught in a seam will not be larger
than 3 mm (.12 in). There will not be more than one
unintentional pleat on a product.
Stitches will be properly tensioned. Puckered or loose
material will not adversely affect the aesthetics of the
tent.
The beginning and end of all seams will be back
stitched 1.5 cm (.59 in).
1.4.7 Instruction Sheet loose on storage bag:
Instruction sheet that is sewn to storage bag which has
been torn from bag at least 10.2 cm (4.00 In.) in length
will be considered a Minor defect.
1.4.8 Seam Tape:
Seam tape will cover the stitch line and will adhere
securely to the surrounding material.
1.4.9 Logo(s) missing:
Visual inspection.
Logos will be assembled to product(s) in locations
shown in Section 8.0.
1.4.10 Interior Trim:
Interior trim will capture and cover raw edges of seams.
1.4.11 Packaging will be clean and readable, and will comply with any special instructions in Section 6.0: Inspect part numbers, package cleanliness and
readability.
Package will not be wet, torn or crushed.
Refer to section 6.0 for any special packaging
requirements.
1.4.12 Finish on product will not negatively affect the appearance of the product (3 ft):
No discolorations visible when viewed at a distance of
0.91 m (3 ft).
1.4.13 Instruction sheet will be included:
Visual inspection. Instruction sheet will be legible.
1.4.14 Logo/Label Screen Printed:
Visual inspection. Logos and labels screened on the
product will be uniformly applied, legible, and will be
positioned as noted in Section 5.0 and/or Section 8.0:
1.4.15 Color/Decoration (Fabric):
The Coleman?product drawing and/or artwork define
the colors of the product, types of decorative
applications and location of the decorative applications
on the product.
Fabric color will be uniform. Discolorations will not
adversely affect the appearance of the product.
1All colors will match colors specified.
1The Coleman?logo and any other printed graphics will
have no discolorations and will not be deformed.
1.4.16 Poor Printing on Literature:
Poor but legible printing on the carton artwork, product
markings, and/or instructional technical literature will be
rated as a minor defect.
1.4.17 Fabric Condition:
Snags:
Snags in the fabric or screen mesh will be small enough
to not adversely affect the appearance of the product.
There will not be more than two small snags on the
product. Permissible snags will be able to be covered
by a 2.5 cm (1.00 In.) diameter circle and cannot pass
water.
1Small Spots on fabric:
Any dirt or dark oil spots less than 2.5 cm (1.00 in) in
diameter or a clear oil spot will be rated as a Minor
defect.
Flaws or runs in fabric:
Flaws or runs in fabric or screen mesh less than 15.2
cm (6.00 In.) in length will be considered a Minor defect.
Thin spots on floor:
Any thin spots on the floor which are not easily poked
through with a finger will be considered a Minor defect.
Needle holes:
Multiple needle holes in wall or floor less than 5.1 cm
(2.00 In.) in length and 2.5 cm (1.00 In.) in length for the
roof will be considered a Minor defect.
Small Hole, Rip or Tear:
Any hole, rip or tear less than 0.64 cm (0.25 In.) in
diameter will be rated as a Minor defect.
1.4.18 Missing storage pockets, gear lofts, non-essential guy lines, and ties ('05):
Any missing tent storage pockets, gear lofts,
non-essential guy lines, and / or missing rainfly ties will
be rated as a Minor defect.。
