English, a global lingua franca, opens doors to a myriad of opportunities. It is the language of business, academia, and the internet. But beyond its practical applications, learning English can be a joyous journey, especially when approached through conversation. Here's a short narrative on thedelightful experience of practicing English through spoken interactions. The sun was just beginning to set, casting a warm glow overthe bustling city. In a small café, amidst the clatter of cups and the hum of conversation, a group of language enthusiasts gathered. They were there for a common purpose:to practice their English through conversation.Among them was Sarah, a young woman with a passion for languages. She had always been fascinated by the rhythm and melody of English, but it was the spoken word that truly captivated her. Tonight, she was determined to improve her fluency and pronunciation. As the group settled in, the facilitator, a native English speaker named Tom, began the session with a simple icebreaker. "Tell me about your favorite place," he encouraged. Sarah, feeling a bit nervous, took a deep breath and began todescribe her hometown, a quaint village nestled in thecountryside. Her words were initially hesitant, but as she continued, her confidence grew. The conversation flowed from one topic to another, with participants sharing stories about their travels, their cultures, and their dreams. Sarah found herself laughing at a humorous anecdote shared by a fellow learner, and sherealized that the joy of learning a language was not just in the acquisition of vocabulary and grammar, but in the connections made through shared experiences. As the evening progressed, the group tackled more complex topics, such as global issues and personal aspirations. Sarah was amazed at how much she could express in English, even with her limited vocabulary. The supportive environment encouraged her to take risks and to not fear making mistakes.Tom provided gentle corrections and helpful tips, but he also emphasized the importance of enjoying the process. "Language is about communication," he said. "It's not just aboutgetting the words right, but about expressing yourself and understanding others."The session ended with a round of applause and promises to meet again. As Sarah walked home, she felt a sense of accomplishment and excitement. The joy of learning English through conversation was not just about the language itself, but about the community it fostered and the personal growthit facilitated. In the days that followed, Sarah continued to practice. Shespoke with tourists, watched English films, and even started a conversation club at her university. Each interaction, whether smooth or stammered, brought her closer to fluency and to a deeper appreciation of the language. The journey of learning English is not always easy, but when approached with an open heart and a willingness to engage, it can be a source of immense joy and fulfillment. Sarah's story is a testament to the power of conversation in language learning—a power that transcends mere words and touches the very essence of human connection.。

I love to cook and one of my favorite dishes to make is pan-fried fish. It's a simple and delicious dish that can be prepared in just a few steps. 。

First, I start by choosing a fresh and firm fish, such as tilapia or cod. Then, I rinse the fish under cold water and pat it dry with paper towels. Next, I season the fish with salt, pepper, and a squeeze of lemon juice. I like to let the fish marinate for a few minutes to absorb the flavors. While the fish is marinating, I heat a few tablespoons of oil in a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, I carefully place the fish in the skillet, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. I let the fish cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side, until it's golden brown and crispy. As the fish is cooking, I like to prepare a simple sauce to serve with it. I usually make a lemon butter sauce by melting some butter in a small saucepan and adding a splash of white wine and a squeeze of fresh lemon juice. I let the sauce simmer for a few minutes until it's slightly thickened.Once the fish is cooked through, I transfer it to a serving platter and drizzle the lemon butter sauce over the top. I like to garnish the fish with some fresh herbs, such as parsley or dill, for a pop of color and flavor. The result is a perfectly cooked, flaky fish with a crispy exterior and a tangy, buttery sauce. It's a dishthat never fails to impress my family and friends, and it's one that I love to make again and again.

As an English teacher, I would guide my students to write an essay about their experience making crispy fried hairtail fish. Here's a sample essay to inspire them:Last weekend, I decided to try my hand at cooking a dish that I had never made before: crispy fried hairtail fish. It was an exciting challenge, not just for my culinary skills, but also for my patience and attention to detail.PreparationThe first step was to gather all the ingredients. I needed hairtail fish fillets, flour, eggs, breadcrumbs, and avariety of spices for seasoning. I also prepared a simple salad to accompany the fish, adding some color and freshness to the meal.MarinatingBefore I could fry the fish, I had to marinate it. I mixed together some soy sauce, garlic, ginger, and a touch of sugar to create a flavorful marinade. I then coated the fishfillets in this mixture, ensuring that every part was well covered. I let the fish marinate for about 30 minutes to allow the flavors to penetrate.CoatingWhile the fish was marinating, I prepared the coating. I whisked two eggs in one bowl and in another, I mixed flour with some black pepper and salt. Then, I spread out breadcrumbs on a plate. The process was to first dredge the fish in the flour, then dip it in the egg wash, and finally press it into the breadcrumbs to coat it completely.FryingFrying the fish was the most nerve-wracking part. I heated some oil in a pan and made sure it was not too hot to avoid burning the fish. When the oil was ready, I gently placed the coated fish fillets into the pan. The sizzling sound was music to my ears, and the aroma that filled the kitchen was divine. I cooked the fish until it was golden brown on both sides, which took about 4-5 minutes per side.PresentationOnce the fish was cooked to perfection, I placed it on a wire rack to drain any excess oil. For the final presentation, I served the crispy fried hairtail fish with a side of fresh salad and a wedge of lemon. The contrast of the crunchy fish with the soft salad was delightful.ReflectionMaking crispy fried hairtail fish was a rewarding experience. It taught me the importance of patience and the joy of experimenting with new recipes. The dish turned out to be a hit with my family, and it has become one of my favorite dishes to prepare. It's amazing how food can bring people together and create such wonderful memories. This essay is structured to include an introduction, preparation, marinating, coating, frying, presentation, and a reflection, which provides a comprehensive narrative of the cooking experience.。

Oil Refining
炼油
An important new industry, oil refining, grew after the Civil war. Crude oil, or petroleum – a dark, thick ooze from the earth – had been known for hundreds of years, but little use had ever been made of it.

In the 1850's Samuel M. Kier, a manufacturer in western Pennsylvania, began collecting the oil from local seepages and refining it into kerosene. Refining, like smelting, is a process of removing impurities from a raw material.Kerosene was used to light lamps. It was a cheap substitute for whale oil, which was becoming harder to get. Soon there was a large demand for kerosene. People began to search for new supplies of petroleum.

The first oil well was drilled by E.L. Drake, a retired railroad conductor. In 1859 he began drilling in Titusville, Pennsylvania. The whole venture seemed so impractical and foolish that onlookers called it ”Drake's Folly”. But when
he had drilled down about 70 feet (21 meters), Drake struck oil. His well began to yield 20 barrels of crude oil a
day.News of Drake's success brought oil prospectors to the scene.By the early 1860’s thesewildcatters were drilling
for ”black gold” all over western Pennsylvania. The boom rivaled the California gold rush of 1848 in its excitement
and Wild West atmosphere. And it brought far more wealth to
the prospectors than any gold rush.

Drake's Folly,drake

Crude oil could be refined into many products. For some years kerosene continued to be the principal one. It was sold in grocery stores and door-to-door. In the 1880's refiners learned how to make other petroleum products such as waxes
and lubricating oils. Petroleum was not then used to make gasoline or heating oil.
