Part one 预习学案

Previewing tasks:

1. 结合war ming up , 回顾中国的传统节假日。

2.阅读全文,了解世界各地的节日、含义、由来与民俗。

3. 把握文章结构及其写作顺序,完成课后练习第一题。(p3)

4. 找出文中出现的从句(定语从句,同位语从句,状语从句)

5. 掌握文中出现的有关节日和民俗的词汇,短语;及一些情态动词的用法。

一.单词、短语

1. mean

Festivals are meant to celebrate important times of year.

Be meant to do sth. 意在做某事,按规定应该作某事

eg: The meeting is meant to deal with some problems.

拓展:mean to do sth.

mean sb to do sth.

mean doing sth.

be meant for = be intended for 打算做……用

eg: Th e magazine was meant for young girls.

2. take place / happen / occur / break out

①take place 指有计划、安排的发生,也有“举行”的意思

②happen 主要只事件或事故的偶然发生

happen to sb /sth. 某人\某事发生什么事

happen to do sth 碰巧:

It happens th at…碰巧,恰巧

③occur 表示“发生”或某事,某想法出现在人的头脑中,常与介词to 连用。

sth occurs to sb 某人想到某物

It occurred/pccurs to sb. +that从句某人突然想起某事

④break out 指突然爆发,强调其出人意料,多指地震、火山、火灾、战争。

※take place,happen,break out 均为不及物动词,没有被动语态,不能直接跟宾语。

3.1> satisfy

①vt 使……满意,使相信(其后常接人作宾语)

Eg: nothing satisfi es him…he is always complainging.

②vt 满足(其后常接needs, demands, requirements, curiosity等)

Eg: the education system must satisfy the needs of all children.

2> satisfied a. 满意的

be satisfied with… 对…感到满意

be satisfied to do sth. 对做某事感到满意

be satisfied of sth 确信某事

3> satisfying a. 令人满意的,令人满足的

satisfactory a. 令人满意的eg: the result of the experiment was satisfactory.

4> satisfaction n. 满意、满足

with satisfaction 满意地 eg:she smiled with satisfaction.

4. remind vt 提醒,使想起

remind sb of sth 使某人想起某事

remind sb to do sth 提醒某人做某事

remind sb. + that 从句

5. award n.&vt.

① n. 奖品;奖金

Gain /obtainan an award 获得奖品 present/receive awards 获得奖品

Some people might win awards for their animals, flowers, fruits and vegetables.

② vt. 授予;判定;给予

They awarded John the first prize/the first prize to John.

6. ① apologise vt. 道歉

I apologized to her for stepping on her foot.

② apology n. 道歉

make an apology to sb. 向某人道歉

offe r one’s apology to sb. 向某人表示歉意

7. drown

① vi. 淹死;溺死

Two children drowned after falling into the river.

② vt. 使淹死;淹没;浸泡;使沉溺于

He drowned himself in work.

He drowned his sadness in wine.

8. keep one’s word 守信用;履行诺言break one’s word食言,失信

eat one’s word 收回前言,认错道歉 have a word with sb. 同某人说句话

have words with sb. 同某人吵架 in other words 换言之

9. hold one’s breath 屏息lose one’s breath 喘不过气来

out of breath 上气不接下气 short of b reath 呼吸困难

take a deep breath 深呼吸

10. set off 出发;启程;引起 set aside 留出;不顾,把…置于一旁

set down 放下;写下;让(乘客)下车 set up 开办;设立;建立;张贴;升起

set out 出发;开始(to do) set about 开始(doing);着手

二.重点句子分析

1. It is now a children’s festival, when they can dress up and go to their neighbours’ homes to ask for sweets.(定语从句)
