感动中国2020年人物吴姥姥写英语作文My Inspiration: Grandma Wu
Hi everyone! Today I want to tell you about an amazing person who inspired me a lot last year. Her name is Grandma Wu and she was named one of the "Moving China 2020" personalities. I first learned about her on the news and I was so impressed by her story that I had to find out more.
Grandma Wu is 88 years old and lives in a village in Sichuan Province. What makes her so special is that even at her very old age, she walked several miles every day to a primary school to feed the students there. You see, many of the kids who attend that school are very poor and their families can't always afford to give them nutritious food. So Grandma Wu took it upon herself to make sure they had at least one good meal during the day.
Every morning, no matter if it was raining, snowing, or the sun was shining, Grandma Wu would wake up before sunrise. She would cook up a huge pot of vegetable and egg stir-fry using ingredients from her little farm. Then she would load up her bamboo baskets with the hot food and start the long walk to the school in the next village over.
The journey took her nearly three hours each way! She had to go up and down steep hills and across streams. Sometimes she had to use a stick to keep her balance on the rocky paths. But nothing could stop this determined granny. She said seeing the happy, well-fed faces of the students made all her efforts worthwhile.
When she finally arrived at the school, smiling and out of breath, the kids would rush over to greet her. "Grandma Wu is here! Grandma Wu is here!" they would shout excitedly. Then Grandma Wu would dish out big portions of her nutritious
stir-fry into the children's lunchboxes. She made sure every student got enough to eat.
The kids adored Grandma Wu and looked forward to her delicious homecooked meals every day. Even though she wasn't their real grandma, she treated them all like her own grandchildren. She would pat their heads and ask how they were doing in their studies. Sometimes the children would perform little songs and dances for her to show their appreciation.
This went on for over a decade! Can you imagine an
88-year-old woman making that long, difficult journey to feed kids every single day for 10 whole years? I'm only 10 years old and I get tired just thinking about it. But Grandma Wu never
complained, not once. When people asked why she did this, she simply said: "They're young and perfect. I'm the one that's imperfect - I should be doing more for them." What an amazingly kind, selfless, and humble person!
Sadly, Grandma Wu passed away early in 2021 at the incredible age of 90. The whole community was heartbroken to lose their beloved granny. At her funeral, hundreds of former students showed up to pay their respects. They made speeches about how Grandma Wu's love and generosity changed their lives. Many said they would not have been able to finish school and make better lives for themselves if not for her nourishing meals. The students appreciated her so much that they collected money to build her family a new home as a way of saying thank you.
To me, Grandma Wu is a true hero and role model. Even though she lived a very simple life as a farmer and had almost no money of her own, she used what little she had to help others. She saw kids in need and instead of looking away, she took action over and over again for years and years. She had such a big heart of compassion.
Her story motivates me to be a kinder, more giving person from a young age. It makes me want to look for ways to
volunteer and help people in my own community, just like she did. I know I'll never be able to match her incredible life of service. But I hope I can have even a little bit of her selfless spirit and concern for others, especially children.
Grandma Wu once said: "As long as I can move, I'll keep doing this." What an inspiration! She worked tirelessly until the very end because she genuinely cared about the wellbeing of those kids. To me, that is the essence of a truly good person - someone who gives with no thought of reward,
someone who sees a need and meets it consistently through selfless deeds.
I want to be like that when I grow up. My dream is to make the world a little bit of a better, kinder place through my actions - no matter how small - just like Grandma Wu did. She may be gone, but her beautiful example of love and service will live on in my heart forever. Thank you, Grandma Wu, for showing us all how to live a meaningful life.。
