Looking Back on My English Learning Journey

My Seventh Grade English Journey
English class has been quite the adventure this semester! We've covered so many interesting units and topics. Let me take you through the highlights.
In Unit 1, we learned about different cultures and traditions around the world. It was fascinating to explore customs like
China's Spring Festival, India's Holi celebration, and Mexico's Día de los Muertos. Writing about my own cultural traditions made me appreciate them in a new way. I had no idea the history behind our big family reunions at Chinese New Year was so rich!
Then in Unit 2, we dove into the world of food. Describing favorite meals and recipes was fun, but the best part was the international food festival we organized. I got to try so many new cuisines from my classmates' cultures. The Indian curry was my favorite - so flavorful! Learning meal-related vocabulary like "appetizer", "entrée", and "dessert" was tasty too.
Unit 3 took us outdoors with extreme sports and adventurous activities. I never knew activities like bungee jumping, rock climbing, and whitewater rafting could be so exhilarating! Though I have to admit, reading the daring
first-hand accounts made my heart race a bit. The discussion about risk versus reward really made me think. I'm still deciding if I'm brave enough to ever try sky diving.
In Unit 4, we explored different cities and did some virtual tourism. Writing travel guides and filming video tours allowed us to showcase our hometowns with pride. I made sure to include all the best authentic restaurants and events! Studying map skills
and giving directions was handy too. Maybe I have a future as a tour guide.
Then we switched gears with Unit 5 and the world of work. Conducting job interviews, writing cover letters and resumes, it felt quite grown up! Though I haven't decided on a career yet, learning professional communication skills will definitely come in handy. Who knew there was so much strategy involved in crafting the perfect elevator pitch?
Most recently, Unit 6 dove into the creative world of art and design. Analyzing famous works, trying our hand at different techniques, and putting together gallery exhibits energized my artistic side. I hadn't realized how much storytelling and emotion could be conveyed through brush strokes. My newfound appreciation for art will stick with me.
Through all these units, I've gained so much more than just English vocabulary and grammar skills. I feel like a true citizen of the world now, more culturally aware and open-minded. Collaborating with classmates from diverse backgrounds opened my eyes. I have a deeper understanding of different perspectives.
My confidence in using English has skyrocketed too. Giving presentations, group projects, and class discussions forced me out of my shell. There's no better way to improve than through
total immersion! I'm much more comfortable expressing myself now.
That's not to say there weren't challenges along the way. Some assignments and topics pushed me out of my comfort zone. Like that debate we had to do on extreme sports - presenting the opposing view from my own opinion was tricky. But having to consider different viewpoints was valuable practice.
There were also plenty of engaging projects and learning games that made lessons fly by. Like that time we had an international potluck with real ethnic dishes. Or that virtual reality tour of famous museums around the globe. Class never felt dull or dry.
What impressed me most was how our teacher made the textbook material feel relevant to our daily lives. We weren't just memorizing vocabulary lists. We were using the language to explore real-world issues that truly matter to us kids - cultural identity, making a difference, planning our futures. That made me way more invested.
So while this semester of English class is coming to a close, I feel like it was just the start of my journey as a global citizen and
English speaker. I can't wait to continue exploring new places, ideas, and ways of communication. Bring on 8th grade English!

My English Journey Through 7th Grade
Hi there! I'm excited to share my experiences from this past semester of 7th grade English class. We covered so much ground in Units 1 through 6, and I feel like my English skills have really improved. Let me take you through each unit and what I learned.
Unit 1 was all about talking about our daily routines and schedules. I found the vocabulary for describing times of day and activities really useful. Like, I can now say I usually wake up at
7am, have breakfast at 7:30am, leave for school around 8:15am, and my first class starts at 9am. Then after school I have soccer practice, do my homework, have dinner with my family, and finally relax by watching TV or reading before going to bed. Talking about routines seems simple, but having the vocabulary to express it smoothly in English was really helpful.
In Unit 2, we learned how to describe people's personalities and appearances. This unit was fun because we got to practice describing our friends, family members, celebrities, and even made up characters. I can now say things like "My best friend is
outgoing and has a great sense of humor" or "That actor has gorgeous blue eyes and an athletic build." Describing appearances objectively without being rude was an important lesson. I'll admit it's tempting to call someone "ugly" in English, but I learned better ways to talk about how someone looks.
Unit 3 was my favorite - we learned all about food, eating out, and describing flavors. Yum! I loved learning fun idioms like "That vegetable stir-fry is finger-licking good" and "The cake was sickly sweet." We also learned menu vocabulary, how to talk about eating customs in different cultures, and did some fun food-related activities. One day we had an "American breakfast" party in class and I brought in my mom's famous blueberry pancakes. Another time we had a "British teatime" and snacked on crumpets and drank tea. Learning about food in such a delicious way really helped the lessons stick!
Unit 4 took us outdoors as we studied vocabulary about nature, plants, animals, and environmental issues. It was interesting learning the difference between words like "forest," "jungle," and "rainforest" in English. I also learned tons of neat facts, like how butterflies are technically classified as insects, not birds or animals. We watched some documentaries about environmental problems like pollution, climate change, and
deforestation which were eye-opening. It motivated me to be more environmentally-friendly and to think more about how my actions impact the natural world.
In Unit 5, we covered ways to talk about jobs, workplaces, schedules, and future career plans. I really enjoyed looking at different career possibilities and discussing what I might want to do when I'm older. Right now I'm leaning towards marine biology because I love the ocean and aquatic life. But who knows, maybe after more life experience I'll discover a new passion! We also learned about the world of work - everything from professional etiquette and office environments to worker's rights and labor laws. It was empowering gaining this knowledge about the working world I'll eventually enter.
Finally, Unit 6 focused on arts, entertainment, and culture. We read stories, poetry, discussed movies/TV shows, learned about different holidays and cultural traditions, and more. My favorite was our "Multicultural Potluck" day where each student brought in a dish that represented their cultural heritage. I brought my grandmother's recipe for Colombian arepas and they were a hit! I loved discovering all the diversity in foods, music, dances, and celebrations we have represented in just our
classroom. It made me appreciate how lucky I am to live in such a multicultural city and country.
Overall, this semester of 7th grade English was incredibly enriching. My vocabulary has grown tremendously, I've become more fluent in speaking about a variety of topics, my writing has improved, and perhaps most importantly - I've expanded my cross-cultural knowledge and open-mindedness. I'm proud of the progress I've made and am even more motivated to continue developing my English abilities. Bring on 8th grade!

A Memorable School Year
School is such a huge part of our lives as students. This year in 7th grade has been full of new experiences, challenges, and memorable moments. Let me tell you about some of the highlights from my studies this year.
In Unit 1, we learned about different cultures and traditions around the world. I found the unit on Chinese festivals especially fascinating. Learning about things like the Spring Festival,
Mid-Autumn Festival, and Dragon Boat Festival gave me a newfound appreciation for the rich cultural heritage of China. The vibrant colors, delicious foods, and ancient traditions were
so interesting to read about. I hope I can experience some of those festivals firsthand one day.
Another topic that really stuck with me was from Unit 2 on environmental protection. It was sobering to learn about the damage humans have inflicted on the natural world through pollution, deforestation, and wasteful practices. However, I also felt inspired by the individuals and organizations working hard to conserve resources, reduce emissions, and protect endangered species. Simple daily actions like reducing plastic use, saving electricity, and recycling can collectively make a big difference. This unit motivated me to be more environmentally conscious.
In Unit 3, we studied incredible scientific and technological innovations throughout history. My favorite was learning about the groundbreaking work of scientists like Marie Curie and Stephen Hawking. Their brilliant minds and tireless dedication to expanding human knowledge was awe-inspiring. I found the information about developing valuable skill sets, exploring your interests and passions, and mapping out career plans very enlightening. While the future may seem uncertain, this unit emphasized the importance of working hard, continuously learning, and being adaptable to change. It motivated me to start thinking more about my own goals and potential paths after school.
Looking back over the whole school year, I've gained so much new knowledge on a wide range of subjects. More importantly though, these units encouraged me to think critically, be more aware of important issues, and consider my role as a global citizen. While there is still so much more to learn, I feel privileged to be getting a well-rounded education.
This was just a sample of the many fascinating topics we covered in class this year. Even outside of academics though, the social aspects of school have created countless memorable experiences as well. Things like competing in school sports, joining clubs, attending dances, and just bonding with friends are all integral parts of the journey. Middle school can certainly be awkward and challenging at times. However, it's also a period filled with personal growth, making lifelong friendships, and embarking on the path toward discovering our passions and future selves.
I can't wait to see what successes, adventures, and
self-discoveries await in the years ahead! For now, I'll just enjoy the rest of my time in 7th grade. Even after the inevitable ups and downs, I know I'll always look back fondly on this school year. It was a period of tremendous learning, maturation, and creating wonderful memories that will last a lifetime.

Looking Back on 7th Grade English
Hi there! I'm a 7th grader and I just finished up the second semester of English class. We covered Units 1 through 6 in our textbooks and I have to say, it was quite the learning experience. Let me take you through each unit and what I took away from them.
Unit 1 was all about describing people's personalities and appearances. I learned a ton of new vocabulary words like ambitious, generous, rebellious, and tons more. Being able to describe someone's character is such an important skill. We did exercises matching personality adjectives to people's behaviors and wrote paragraphs portraying our best friends. I feel like I have a much richer vocabulary now for capturing who someone truly is on the inside and outside.
In Unit 2, we dove into discussing different hobbies, sports, and free-time activities. I loved learning unique words for niche hobbies like philately (stamp collecting), numismatics (coin collecting), and pyrography (wood burning art). My reading comprehension really improved from all the texts about people's favorite pastimes. For the writing portion, I described my own
hobbies of gaming and basketball. It was fun putting my new vocabulary into practice!
Moving on to Unit 3, the focus shifted to talking about our school life. There were so many new words and expressions for different classes, school supplies, academic subjects, and more. Vocab like whiteboard, backpack, andmathematics were essentials to learn. I remember struggling with appropriately using school-related verbs like to write, to read, and to study for different contexts. The dialogues we read about students' daily routines at school were very relatable. For the final writing task, I wrote a one-day school diary using transition words and sequential language.
Unit 4 took us into the travel and transportation realm. I was excited to learn cool words like suitcase, backpack, passport, and immigration. There were also tons of new verbs like to check in, to board, and to take off that I had to master. From reading comprehensions about travel experiences to writing a postcard from an imaginary vacation, this unit combination definitely prepared me for my future travel adventures. Getting the confusing transportation vocabulary and phrasal verbs down was challenging but rewarding.
Then in Unit 5, we covered careers, occupations, and the working world.Words like occupation, profession, recruitment, and salary were new to my English vocabulary repertoire. I loved the readings we did about cool careers like video game designer, astronaut, and wildlife photographer. The lessons on discussing job duties, workplace environments, and future career goals were so applicable. For the final writing assignment, I wrote a career aspiration essay about my dream of becoming a professional basketball player.
Finally, Unit 6 brought us to the topical theme of health, nutrition, and physical fitness. Discipline-specific lingo like nutritionist, vitamins, dietary fiber, and obesity were keywords to learn. There were also tons of useful health verbs like to exercise, to consume, and to recover that I struggled with at first. However, I felt very accomplished after acing the readings about global health issues and food pyramids. The nutrition analysis writing assignment, where I examined my weekly eating habits, really opened my eyes to a more balanced diet. Overall, this unit gave me a new perspective on personal wellness.
Phew, that was quite the English study journey! I may have struggled initially with some of the new vocabulary and language, but my reading, writing, listening, and speaking abilities have
grown tremendously. Applying the unit themes to real-life scenarios through the activities and assignments was challenging yet rewarding. As I head into 8th grade, I feel much more confident in using English to communicate effectively. Shout out to my English teacher for making this class so engaging!。
