With more and more cars on the road, traffic jams are inevitable. Traffic
jams can lead to increased accidents as there are more cars, with more people trying to get to their de stination, all the while getting worse. Although it’s impossible to avoid traffic jams altogether, there are some tips you can follow to reduce the amount of time on the road.
Check for traffic jams before you leave. You can listen to the r adio for traffic news, or check on the Internet to get up-to-minute information on traffic. If the route you want to take is heavy with traffic, you can choose another.
Look for a different route all the time. Most traffic jams happen on busy roads. Using country roads could see you avoiding a lot of traffic. Although the distance you may have to travel is further, it can work out quicker.
Set your car radio to receive traffic bulletins. Many new car stereo systems (汽车音响系统) are equipped with a radio system by which you can hear the traffic channel. This way you can get the latest traffic information and change your journey if necessary.
_____64._____ Most traffic jams usually occur during rush hour, so try to avoid this time period if possible. Some jobs offer flexible working hours so that you can travel to work outside of rush hour. Some jobs even allow you to work at home so as to avoid moving altogether. Ask your manager to see what you can do if traffic is a problem for you.
Use public transport alternatives where available. The easiest way to avoid traffic jams is to take buses or the underground instead of driving your own car. Not only will you avoid traffic jams but you will most likely be saving money as the cost of motoring rises.

How I Turned to Be Optimistic(乐观)
I began to grow up that winter night when my parents and I were returning from my aunt’s house, and my mother said that we might soon be leaving for America. We were on the bus then. I was crying, and some people on the bus were turning around to look at me. I remember that I could not bear the thought of never hearing again the radio program for school children to which I listened every morning.
I do not remember myself crying for this reason again. In fact, I think I cried very little when I was saying goodbye to my friends and relatives. When we were leaving I thought about all the places I was going to see — the strange and magical places I had known only from books and pictures. The country I was leaving never to come back was hardly in my head then.
The four years that followed taught me the importance of optimism, but the idea did not come to me at once. For the first two years in New York I was really lost—having to study in three schools as a result of family moves. I did not quite know what I was or what I should be. Mother remarried, and things became even more complex(复杂)for me. Some time passed before my stepfather and I got used to each other. I was often sad, and saw no end to “the hard times.”
My responsibilities in the family increased a lot since I knew English better than everyone else at home. I wrote letters, filled out forms, translated at interviews with Immigration(移民局)officers, took my grandparents to the doctor and translated there, and even discussed telephone bills with company representatives.
From my experiences I have learned one important rule: Almost all common troubles finally go away! Something good is certain to happen in the end when you do not give up, and just wait a little! I believe that my life will turn out all
right, even though it will not be that easy.

Nearly half of all women in the United States suffer from increased stress during the holidays. One of the reasons is higher levels of comfort eating, drinking and other things that can lead to weight gain. It is not uncommon for people to eat for comfort when they feel sad, angry, hopeless, bored or lonely. According to a survey, one in four people in the United States agrees that “when I am feeling down or facing a problem, I turn to food to help me feel better.” Comfort eating and unhealthy drinking increases among men too, but is more common among women. Forty-one percent of women in the survey agree that they eat for comfort during the holidays. Among men, 25 percent report holiday-season comfort eating.
Women still tend to do more of the planning, and more of the social and family organ izing for the holidays. “Too true,” said Sissy McPhearson. “My husband
and I both work, and normally we divide household tasks equally. But during the holidays he doesn’t care as much about decorating(装饰)the house or wrapping presents or hosting dinners — so I end up doing it all even though I work full-time.”
McPhearson says that the stress of preparing for holidays, plus more invitations to go out, makes it easier for many to reach out for that extra drink. “I go out a lot more now, maybe three or four ni ghts a week, and have a couple of drinks. Usually I just go out maybe once a week,” she said.
Among the healthier methods experts suggest to deal with the holiday stress are saying no to that serving of delicious roast beef, lasagna(烤宽面条)or chilled glass of white wine.
71. According to the passage, what is “ comfort eating”?
A. Eating expensive food.
B. Eating delicious food.
C. Eating food to relax.
D. Eating healthy food.
72. How many women do holiday-season comfort eating according to the survey?
A. 25%.
B. 31%.
C. 50% .
D. 41%.
73. Who often do more of the family organizing during the holidays?
A. The father.
B. The mother.
C. The parents.
D. The children.
74. People go out and have drinks probably because ________.
A. they look forward to a new taste
B. they have found a peaceful place to relax in
C. of the cheap price of an extra drink
D. someone invites them for dinner
75. How should women deal with “holiday stress” according to this passage?
A. Eat less delicious beef and drink less white wine.
B. Have more holidays.
C. Go to the gym after the holidays.
D. Go out to take invitations.
第二节:信息匹配(共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读下列应用文及相关信息,并按照要求匹配信息。
根据短文内容,从A到F选项中选出能概括每一段主题的最佳选项。
其中有一项为多余项。
A. A sense of humor is not an inborn ability.
B. A sense of humor can be developed in our life.
C. A sense of humor helps us from seve ral ways.
D. A sense of humor means more than telling jokes.
E. A sense of humor can be expressed in many ways.
F. A sense of humor helps people to better enjoy life.
76. _____ As awareness of the benefits of humor increases, most of us want to get all the laughs we can. It seems that almost every day there is another new discovery about the power of humor to help us physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Every system of the body responds to laughter in some important or positive way.
77. _____ Many people mistakenly believe that we are born with a sense of humor.
They think that when it comes to a sense of humor, “either you’ve got it or you don’t.” This is false. What is true, however, is that the ability to laugh and smile is actually something we are born with. For example, we laugh when we are tickled under the arm, even without thinking about how to react.
78. _____ The parts of the brain and central nervous system that control laughing
and smiling are mature at birth in human infants, but that is not the same thing as having a sense of humor. (After all, when a baby laughs in his small bed we don’t rush over and say, “That kid has a great sense of humor.”) Your sense of humor is something you can develop over a lifetime. Don’t be nervous before others and try to laugh at yourself—then you will make them laugh too.
79. _____ Humor includes a lot more than laughing and joke telling. Many people
worry needlessly that they do not have a good sense of humor because they are not good joke tellers. More than jokes, a sense of humor requires being willing and able to see the funny side of life’s situations as they happen. In fact, one of the best definition of a sense of humor is “the ability to see the nonserious element in a situation”.
80. _____ There may be a thousand different ways to express your sense of humor,
but joke telling is only one of those ways. As more is discovered about how humor benefits our life, more people will be able to see and enjoy the humor when they are in a difficult situation. Life depends on air, food and water, but it is made easier to live with a good sense of humor.
