(2015 安徽卷)As Internet users become more dependent on the Internet to store information , are people remember less? If you know your computer will save information ,
why store it in your own personal memory, your brain? Experts are wondering if the Internet is cha nging what we remember and how.
In a recent study , Professor Betsy Sparrow con ducted some experime nts. She and her research team wan ted to know the Internet is cha nging memory. I n the first experime nt ,
they gave people 40 uni mporta nt facts to type into a computer. The first group of people un derstood that the computer would save the in formati on. The sec ond group un derstood that the computer would not save it. Later ,the second group remembered the information better.
People in the first group knew they could find the information again , so they did not try
to remember it.
In another experiment , the researchers gave people facts to remember, and told them where to find the in formatio n on the In ternet. The in formatio n was in a specific computer folder (文件夹).Surprisingly , people later remember the folder location (位置)better than the
facts. When people use the In ternet , they do not remember the in formati on. Rather , they remember how to find it. This is called " transactive memory (交互记忆)"
Accord ing to Sparrow , we are not beco ming people with poor memories as a result of the
Internet. Instead , computer users are developing stronger transactive memories ; that is ,
people are learning how to organize huge quantities of information so that they are able to access it at a later date. This doesn ' t mean we are becoming either more or less
in tellige nt , but there is no doubt that the way we use memory is cha nging.
64. The passage beg ins with two questi ons to ____ .
A. in troduce the main topic

A. Sparrow ' s team typed th e information into a computer.
B. The two groups remembered the information equally well.
C. The first group did not try to remember the formation.
D. The sec ond group did not un dersta nd the in formati on.
66. In transactive memory , people _________ .
A. keep the in formati on in mind
B. cha nge the qua ntity of in formati on
C. organize information like a computer
D. remember how to find the in formatio n
F s research?
67. What is the effect of the Internet accord ing to Sparrow
T
A. We are using memory differe ntly.
B. We are beco ming more in tellige nt.

People have used secret codes for thousands of years. 36 Code breaking never lags(落
后)far behi nd code making. The scie nee of creati ng and readi ng coded messages is called cryptography.
There are three main types of cryptography. 37 For example, the first letters of"
My elephant eats too many eels " spell out the hidden message " Meet me."
38 You might represent each letter with a number , for example. Let ' s number the
letters of the alphabet , in order , from 1 to 26. If we substitute a number for each letter ,
the message " Meet me" would read " 135 520 135. " zx&xk*
A code uses symbols to replace words , phrases , or sentences. To read the message of a
real code, you must have a code book. 39 For example , " bridge " might stand for " meet" and" out " might stand for " me." The message" Bridge out " would actually mean " Meet me." 40 However , it is also hard to keep a code book secret for long. So codes must be changed freque ntly.
A. It is very hard to break a code without the code book.
