一、阅读理解
(A)
Have you ever dreamt of winning the lottery(彩票)? Most people will dream
of fast cars, large house, and not having to work any more. In real life, however,
that’s not always what happens.
Dr H Van Haan, a writer of several books on lottery winners , says, “Winning the lottery doesn’t change people’s lives as much as we imagine. Most
lottery winners keep their jobs, but often find that they lose their friends. Their
friends will often ask them for money and these friends very often get angry if
they don’t share the money.”
Lottery winners spend most of their first one million dollars on traveling. However, when the early excitement of traveling around the world had disappeared, the happiness that money brings also disappears. In less than a year
after winning most winners say that they are not happier than before.
Too much money can make people unhappy especially for those who are not
used to it. One study shows that more than 30%of lottery winners lost most of
their money in the first five years and many of them had money problems.
Another report shows that a lot of people were happily married before they won
the lottery, but they had problems with their partners after winning the money.
So, you see, although most people dream of winning the lottery, the dream
can sometimes turn into a nightmare.

Colour helps you see things. But man and some monkeys and apes are the
only mammals that can see colour. To any other mammal, such as the dog, the
world looks like a black-and-white photo. Dogs hunt mainly by listening and
sniffing.
Like other animals, dogs see best when things move. The animals they hunt

see it at all. Birds can see colour. They need to, because they fly and need to find
places to land. Colour helps them judge distance and shape. In this way they are
able to catch bugs in the air or to light on branches.
Some birds see things even better than you do. The birds that eat bugs can
see them from far away. And even a very young bird can see a hawk high in the
sky .So sharp eyes and a sense of colour help birds find food and also help them
