13、Amy was looking for a gift for her little daughter. She stopped in front of a store full of dolls.
“Girls like dolls,” she thought as she stepped into the store.
Looking around, she saw a grandma doll — one with grey hair and a pair of glasses. In her mind appeared Joyce, her own mother.
When Amy was a little girl, she got her first doll from Joyce for her birthday. Then the second, the third... the dolls never arrived late, year after year.
“Why always a doll?” This question had been in Amy’s mind until one day her father gave the answer. Joyce dreamed of having a doll when she was a child herself. Her parents promised one for her fifth birthday. Sadly, they both died in a traffic accident before it arrived. The never—received gift was the most precious one in her eyes.
Recalling(回想起) her mother’s story, Amy got an idea.
It was Joyce’s 60th birthday. She got a package with a card that read:
Dear Joyce,
I forget to send you a package that you should have received on May 20, 1956, your fifth birthday. The gift inside has aged, but I felt that you might still want to have it.
Love,
Angel of Joy
Joyce opened the package and saw a lovely grandma doll. She clasped the doll that she had waited so many years for, with tears running down her face. The doll, given by her “Angel of Joy”, made her the happiest “child” in the world. 1.Why did Amy stop in front of a store?

14、I needed to buy a digital camera, one that was just good at taking good photos, maybe sometimes for magazines. I went online, spent 15 minutes reading product reviews on good websites, wrote down the names of three top recommendations and headed for my nearest big friendly camera store. There in the cupboard was one of the cameras on my list. And it was on special offer. I pointed at it and asked an assistant, “Can I have one of those?” He looked perturbed (不安).“Do you want to try it first?” he said. It didn’t quite sound like a question. “Do I need to?” I replied. “There’s nothing wrong with it?” This made him look a bit unhappy and I started to feel bad. “No, no. But you should try it.” he said. “Compare it with the others.”
I looked across at the others: shelves of similar cameras along the wall, offering a wide range(范围) of slightly different prices and discounts, with each company selling a range of models based around the same basic box. With so many models to choose from, it seemed that I would have to spend hours weighing X against Y, always trying to take Z and possibly H into my choice. But when I had finished, I would still have only the same two choices that I had entered the store with: first, soon after I carried my new camera out of the shop, it would be worth half what I paid for it; and second, my wonderful camera would veryquickly be replaced by a new model.
In the end, I agreed to try the model I had chosen. The assistant seemed a nice man. So I let him take out my
chosen camera from the cupboard, show how it took excellent pictures of some shoppers... and when he started to introduce the special parts, I stopped him and asked whether I needed to buy a carry-case and a memory card as well.
Why do we think that new choices still offer us anything new? Perhaps it is because they offer a chance to prevent facing the fact that our real choices in this culture are far more limited than we would like to imagine.

19、Hello, friends. I've got a plan for you which may help you learn about Chinese culture. First of all, I'd like to introduce tea. It has a long history. It is said that Shen Nong discovered it as a drink. Tea is one of the most popular drinks in China. So we will have some interesting activities about it for you.
On Saturday morning, you are going to visit a big farm where you can learn about tea processing. On Saturday afternoon, you are going to a tea house after dinner where you can watch a tea art performance.
Why do we plan a visit to a tea house for you? Because you can lean a lot more about tea culture there. You will see a young lady in a Chinese traditional dress who shows you how a cup of tea is made with tea sets, You can enjoy it and relax yourselves while listening to pieces of traditional folk music.
Hope you will have a good time.。
