On my table sits a photograph of a young man with thick black hair and eyes dark with the depth of understanding。
It is Andy, who never hurt people。
If he was angry, you knew it. If he was sad,he showed it. However, being the middle son, Andy always seemed to play the role of the mediator。
The way he behaved could make people calmer and there was something mature about his judgment.
He was an activist all of his life. At age 15,he traveled to Washington,D.C。
,to take part in a Youth March for Integrated (综合的)Schools. At 17, he journeyed to West Virginia by bus to examine the poverty of Appalachia. At 19,he worked at a camp for children who lacked money and education。
Then,in the spring of 1964, at age 20,he said, “Mom,I’d like to go to Mississippi。
"
The Mississippi Summer Project was to flood the state with hundreds of northern college students。
The volunteers would form “freedom schools” to teach African—Americans about their voting rights。
It was called “one of the most ambitious civil rights projects yet。
”
The violence against blacks had never stopped。
In the previous seven decades, nearly 600 known killings had taken place in the state. But the reasons why part of me wanted Andy to stay were the same reasons he wanted to go。
Only five percent of Mississippi’s half-million African-Americans were registered to vote in 1960. I had fought for what I believed in all my life. I found a husband who had done the same。
How could I say no to Andy?
As Andy was preparing to leave, I threw some bandages into his bag。
I thought he might get pushed around。
Never in my wildest dreams did I think I’d never see him again。
There are 40 names written on the Civil Rights Memorial in Montgomery,Alabama。
Of the 40 victims,19 were killed in Mississippi. One of them is my son. I allowed him to go to Mississippi because that is who he was。
And it is who I was, too。
4. The first paragraph is mainly about Andy's ______.
A. appearance
B. behavior C。
character D。
background
5。

B。
fought for African—Americans' voting rights
C。
attracted college students from all over the country

A。
the whole family had a spirit of adventure
B。
blacks were in a disadvantageous position
C。
it was the most dangerous civil rights project
D。
Andy may become a hero at the cost of his life
7。

The pace of today’s working life blurs (使模糊) the line between personal time and work time, and it increasingly mixes one's personal lifestyle and work style。
And as companies are trying hard to attract and keep young people for their technical skills and enthusiasm for change, office culture is becoming an extension of youth culture。
This may be no bad thing。
For most of human history the middle—aged have ruled, but in the future, they will have to share power with fresh-faced youths.
There have been a number of reasons for this change and the most dramatic of these is technology。
Children have always been more expert than their parents at something, but usually a game or a fashion,
not the century’s most important business tool. The Internet has started the first industrial revolution in history to be led by the young. Though there have been youth revolutions before, none of them made a big change the way the Internet has. Throughout the 20th century, if a young person wanted to enter an American company, they needed to leave their youth behind。
They got a haircut, and probably a suit or at least a tie. Now the same hair, same clothes, even nearly the same hours apply to office and home。
Had it not been for the Internet, this change could not have happened. However,it did not happen because of the Internet only; the corporate restructurings (公司重组) of the 1980s and 1990s broke down traditional hierarchies (等级制度)。
In many companies, seniority—based (基于资历的)hierarchies have been replaced by hierarchies based on performance. The abilities to please your superiors are no longer the most valued skills. Today’s employees stay with companies only as long as they feel challenged and rewarded; moving from job to job is now a sign of ambition.
The rise of the young is a good thing, because it gives them more opportunity to put their ideas and energy into practice at their most creative stage in life. Nowadays youth and youth qualities seem to dominate, but the experience and maturity of older employees should be put to good use, too.
8.A company tries to attract young people for their________。
A. office culture B。
modern lifestyle
C. changing attitude D。
technical abilities
9.In the 20th century,to enter an American company, a young person needed to________.
A。
work in the office and at home B. have an eye-catching hairstyle
C. dress in the business style
D. leave the business tool behind 10.Why is the rise of the young a good thing?
A. They become more energetic in life.
B. They have taken over the companies。
C。
Their creativity can be put to good use。
D。
Their ideas appeal to a great many people。
11.What can be inferred from the passage?
A. Young people will lead in fashion。
B。
Young people will have more power.
C. Older people will step off the historical stage。
D. Older people will continue to be the main force。
D
Dragonflies (蜻蜓)eat a lot, and they constantly hunt for food。
What’s more, they usually catch it in the air. Zig!The dragonfly catches a small fly。
Zag! It seizes a mosquito。
Very few insects can outfly the dragonfly。
No matter how fast they go, no matter which way they turn, the dragonfly is usually able to follow。
Two engineers at the University of Tennessee Space Institute have been studying the way that dragonflies fly。
Dr。
James Wu and Dr。
Ahmad Vakili are studying ways to design a fighter plane that can change direction as quickly and easily as dragonflies can. Why is that important? If you are in a fighter plane, and another plane is after you,you want to be able to fly more quickly than the other plane, Dr。
Vakili says.
A dragonfly’s wings are the key to its flying ability,Dr. Wu and Dr。
Vakili say。
If you look closely, you will see that a dragonfly has two wings on each side of its body—a long front wing and a slightly shorter back wing. During flight, small but powerful winds of air move along each of the dragonfly’s front wings. Thus, the pressure of air keeps the dragonfly up in the air。
A dragonfly’s back wings help keep the winds from breaking up。
Dr. Wu and Dr. vakili are studying ways to make fighter plane wings use air flow as efficiently as dragonfly wings。
Does this mean that
someday we’l l have fighter planes that look like dragonflies?Dr. Wu and Dr. vakili say no,because that would not be practical。
They don’t want wings that look like a dragonfly's。
Rather, they want wings that work like a dragonfly’s-designed to help fighter planes change course quickly and outfly their enemies.
12. The opening paragraph is mainly intended to show______。
A. the flying abilities of dragonflies
B. how dragonflies search for food
C。
the food dragonflies prefer D。
why dragonflies fly so fast
13。
What helps dragonflies fly quickly and change direction easily? A. The shape of their wings. B. The number of their wings。
C。
The strength of their wings。
D. The structure of their wings。
14. Dr. Wu and Dr. vakili want to make fighter planes that can take advantage of ______.
A。
the power of the wind B. the direction of the wind C. air flow D. air pressure
15。
We can infer that the fighter planes designed by Dr. Wu and Dr。
vakili may ______.
A. fly at a greater height
B. look like dragonflies
C。
have more functions D. make a turn quickly

Tips to create great readers
Great readers are made; they are not born. After all, children don’t enter the world knowing ho w to understand a text or make inferences。
16 Here are some tips for making children great readers by habit.
17 The most important moment in reading instruction is when a
student gets something wrong。
If the student continues practicing the skill incorrectly,he or she will build weaker habits。
Intervene (干预) with a targeted question, such as “How does this part of the text help you understand this character?” Doing so can prevent poor habits from taking root and build great ones in their place.
Build great reading and writing skills hand in hand。
Just like adults, students use writing to gather their thoughts about a text and communicate their ideas to others. 18 For example, students can have a discussion about what they’re reading by answering a focus question in writing:“What is the author trying to teach us in this story?”19 By doing this, you can get a better understanding of what guidance the students will need during the discussion.
Make sure students are reading.Independent reading time is important for any reading program。
It’ s a chance for students to put together everything they’ve learned in r eading lessons and fly using their own wings. 20 Providing a rich class library and letting students know that they are expected to read for the entire period will ensure their success as lifelong independent readers.
A。
Build habits at the moment of error.
B。
Make sure students fall in love with reading。
C. Then, you can review their written responses.
D. They grow into great readers by learning great habits。
E。
But it only works if they really do spend that time reading.
F. Specific lines or phrases from the text help to reveal that information.
G. Therefore, you can develop their writing and reading skills at the same time。

第二节(共10题;每小题1。
5分,满分15分)
阅读下面材料,在空白处填入适当的内容(1个单词)或括号内单词的正确形式
In one way of thinking, failure is part of life. In 41 way, failure may be a way towards success. The “spider-story" is often told. Robert Bruce, leader of the Scots in 42 13th century, was hiding in a cave from the English. He watched a spider 43 ( make)a web. The spider tried to reach across a rough place in the rock. He tried six times without success。
On the seventh time he made 44 and went on to make his web。
Bruce is said to 45 (encourage )by this and to have gone on to defeat the English. Edison, the 46 (invent) of the light bulb, made hundreds of models that failed before he found the right way 47 (make)one. Once he was asked 48 he kept on trying to make a new type of battery when he had failed so often,he replied,“Failure?I have no failure。
Now I know 50,000 ways that won’t work。
”
So what? First, always think about your failure. What caused it?Were conditions right? What can you change? So things will go right next time。
Second,is the goal you’re trying to reach the right one? Try to do some thinking about what your real goals may be. This may help you prevent failure in things you shouldn't be doing anyway。
The third thing to keep 49 mind about failure is that it’s a part of life. Learn to “live with yourself” even 50 you may have failed.
