英国的传统酒吧文化
英国的传统酒吧文化英国的传统酒吧文化在英国的文化内涵中,酒吧文化是引人注意的一大亮点,要想真正了解英国的民风世情,走进大大小小的酒吧是最有效的方式,你能在里面体验英国人的生活乐趣。
英国酒吧文化英国人喜欢告诉外国人― “If you haven't been to a pub, you haven't been to Britain”。
单看各地酒吧招牌上的名字吧― The Queen Vic(维多利亚女王)、Lamb and Flag(羊羔与旗)、The Bull and the Woolpack(牛和羊毛包)、The Rose and Crown(玫瑰与王冠)、The Fisherman’s Cot(渔夫之床)、The Sailor’s Return(水手归来)、Duke William(威廉公爵从这些名字里既可以学习到很多有趣的单词,又可以借此了解英国悠久的历史和传统社会生活图景,真是趣味无穷!

British Pub Culture
“If you haven't been to a pub, you haven't been to Britain”

其它的啤酒还有青啤酒Mild、淡色啤酒Pale Ale、黑啤酒Stout、烈啤酒Strong Ale(其中以爱尔兰黑啤酒Guinness Extra Stout 最有名)。

Before then, there were alehouses that sold beer brewed on the premises often by women, known as alewives or brewsters. More salubrious were inns, much larger establishments, which might offer food, stabling for horses, and a variety of dining and meeting rooms.我们今天所知道的公共酒店(pub)是18世纪的发明,在那之前有卖啤酒的啤酒店,这些啤酒常常是由妇女们在店内酿造的,我们称她们为啤酒店女主人或者酿酒人。
更让人觉得身心愉快的地方是那些建得更宽大的酒馆,在那里可以提供食物、马厩和各种类型的餐厅及会议室。
The 18th and 19th centuries saw a massive rebuilding ofpubs ①in reaction to changing tastes, and the opening of new establishments to meet new demand in industrial and suburban areas. Since the Second World War, a further revolution has taken place as pubs have had to compete with an increasing range of leisure pursuits. Many started selling food, while others became theme pubs in the hope of attracting young people.

English Answer:Introduction:The dynamic relationship between pub talk and Standard English is a topic that has fascinated sociolinguists for decades. Pub talk, a colloquial variety of speech used in informal settings, stands in stark contrast to Standard English, the codified form used in formal contexts such as education and media. This essay explores the distinctive features, social implications, and mutual influence of these two language varieties.Distinctive Features:Pub talk is characterized by a unique set of features that distinguish it from Standard English. These include:Pronunciation: Pub talk often involves the use ofregional accents, non-standard vowel sounds, and elision of certain syllables.Vocabulary: Pub talk employs a rich vocabulary that includes slang, colloquialisms, and taboo words.Syntax: Pub talk frequently deviates from the grammatical rules of Standard English, using unconventional word order, double negatives, and fragmented sentences.Discourse Patterns: Pub talk conversations aretypically characterized by interruptions, overlapping speech, and a relaxed, informal tone.Social Implications:The use of pub talk carries significant social implications. In many cultures, pubs are spaces where individuals socialize and interact on an informal basis. Pub talk, therefore, serves as a marker of in-group membership, fostering a sense of solidarity among its speakers. Conversely, those who do not use pub talk may beperceived as outsiders or overly formal.Mutual Influence:Despite their differences, pub talk and Standard English are not mutually exclusive. In fact, they often influence each other in subtle ways. Pub talk cancontribute to the evolution of Standard English by introducing new words and phrases that eventually gain wider acceptance. Standard English, in turn, exerts a standardizing influence on pub talk, shaping its pronunciation and grammar. Conclusion:The relationship between pub talk and Standard English is complex and multifaceted. Pub talk, with its distinctive features and social implications, stands as a vibrant and dynamic form of speech. While it may differ from Standard English in many respects, it also exerts an influence onits more formal counterpart. By understanding the interplay between these two language varieties, we gain valuableinsights into the diverse ways in which language is usedand the social contexts in which it operates.Chinese Answer:引言:酒吧聊天与标准英语之间的动态关系是几十年来语言社会学家感兴趣的话题。

Pub talkThe pub is a central part of English life and cultureThree significant cross-cultural similarities in pub:1. the drinking-place is a special environment, a separate social world with its own customs and values 独立的文化习俗2.Drinking-places tend to be socially integrative, egalitarian environments人人平等的环境,或者至少与外界不一样的地位等级规则3.The primary function of drinking-places is the facilitation of social bonding基本职能是促进社交THE RULES OF ENGLISH PUB-TALK 酒吧规则The Sociability Rule 友善规则It is socially acceptable to strike up a conversation with a complete stranger.Normal rules of privacy and reserve are suspended.可以与陌生人随意交谈,没有隐私和保留规则no waiter service in English pubs. 没有服务生the sociability rule only applies at the bar counter,–those furthest from the bar being universally understood to be the most ‘private’. 友善规则只限于吧台,离吧台最远的地方是最隐私的角落English also still value their privacy at the bar counter. The division of the pub into ‘public’ and ‘private’ zones is a perfect, and very English, compromise.吧台的隐私规则,英式妥协——将吧台分为公共区和私人区The Invisible-queue Rule 隐形队列规则The bar counter is the only place in England in which anything is sold without the formation of a queue. 酒吧是英国人唯一不需要排队的地方But, there is an invisible queue, and that both the bar staff and the customers are aware of each person’s position in this queue. 酒吧中有着隐形队伍,服务员和顾客都知道客人的顺序The bar counter is ‘the exception that proves the rule’ about English queuing: it is only an apparent exception – and another example of the orderly nature of English disorder.酒吧队伍的存在说明了英国人乱中有序的特点The Pantomime Rule 哑剧规则The rules of English pub-talk regulate non-verbal as well as verbal communication.语言规则及非语言规则. Bar staff do their best to ensure that everyone is served in proper turn, but it is still necessary to attract their attention and make them aware that one is waiting to be served. There is, however, a strict etiquette involved in attracting the attention of bar staff: this must be done without speaking, without making any noise and without resorting to the vulgarity of obvious gesticulation.让服务生注意到你需要服务,但不能说话,弄出声响或是使用粗鲁手势例tilt the empty glass, or perhaps turn it slowly in a circular motion 倾斜空杯或旋转空杯Exception to the Pantomime Rule 哑剧规则的例外大声叫嚷的通常是常客regular customers of the pub 他们的粗鲁行为纳入侍者与常客的特殊礼仪这The Rules of Ps and Qs 请和谢谢规则Say “please”when order a bear and say ‘thank-you’ (or ‘thanks’) when the drinks are handed over, and again when the change is given. 点酒时一定要用请字,拿到酒和找零时要说谢谢(这一规则应用于英国的任何场合)England may be a highly class-conscious society, but these politeness rules suggest that the culture is also, in many ways, remarkably egalitarian英国对社会阶级极度敏感,但礼貌规则说明英国文化在很多方面也很平等。
