第11课One good turn deserves another
1、One good turn deserves another
turn 这里指行为，another 指代另一个好的行为
deserve 值得
2、He gets a good salary.
salary 按月发的薪水，一般指白领的工资。

wage 按星期或者按天发的工资，一般指蓝领的工资。

通常用复数形式wages.
3、He always borrows money form his friends and never pays it back.
pay back 归还
还钱pay back the money, 用代词it 的话，要放在中间，pay it back.
课文中另一句So now you can pay for my dinner.
此句中pay 是不及物动词，pay for sth. 为什么东西而付账。

另外，pay off 还清
pay phone 公用的付费电话
overtime pay 加班费，这里pay 是名词
4、Tony saw me and came and sat at the same table.
sat at the same table 坐到同一张桌子旁边，注意用介词at
5、I was having dinner at a restaurant.
Tony worked in a lawyer's office years ago, but he is now working at a bank.
注意句子中介词at 和in 的用法，是习惯用法，需要特别记忆。

第10课Not for jazz
1、Our clavichord is kept in the living room.
keep 此句中意思是指习惯上把什么东西存放在什么地方。

is kept 是被动用法
What kept you? 此句中keep是耽误的意思。

2、It has belonged to our family for a long time.
belong to 属于
3、My father was shocked.
be shocked 受到震动，一般是指对不好的事情做出的反应。

4、It is being repaired by a friend of my father's.
is being repaired 现在进行时的被动语态，在被动语态之间加being 构成。

a friend of my father's 双重所有格形式
5、被动语态be + 动词过去分词
注意时态的变化，体现在be 的变化。

第9课A cold welcome
1、A large crowd of people had gathered under the Town Hall clock.
gather 聚集
gather round 围拢
2、It would strike twelve in twenty minutes' time.
此句中用介词in 表示再过多长时间
3、Fifteen minutes passed and then, at five to twelve, the clock stopped.
pass 和past 都表示经过，过去。

pass 是动词，past 是介词
4、The big minute hand did not move.
hand 指钟的指针
the face of a clock 钟的面盘
5、The big clock refused to welcome the New Year.
refuse to do sth. = be unwilling to do sth. 不情愿做某事
6、时间的表达：
表示差几分到几点，过了30分钟后用to，five to twelve 差5分12点
表示几点过了几分，30分钟内用past, two minutes past twelve 12点过2分
表示一刻钟用quarter, a quarter to nine 差一刻钟9点，或者8点45分
表示半小时用half, half past ten 十点半
7、everything, something, nothing, anything 用法都是单数形式，anything 用于疑问句和否定句。
