Picking a new CPU can be a daunting task. Whether you’re a DIY aficionado or are deciding which CPU to order in a new desktop, knowing what tradeoffs to make
in price and performance is always important. Do you live in the low-CPU-usage world of word processor, spreadsheets, and Web browsers, or are you a power-hungry 3D gamer, music recorder, or video-editing export who needs all the horsepower you can get? 3D games and video encoding, in particular, really pound on the CPU. What if you use all of these applications and your budget isn’t unlimited? That’s where knowing how to get the right CPU at the right price really comes in handy. Translation exercise
Throughout history, media and technologies for learning have influenced education. Most recently, for example, the computer has invaded instructional settings. Such tools offer powerful possibilities for improving the learning process. The teacher, however, will make the difference in the integration of media into this process.
The roles of the instructor and the learner are clearly changing because of the influence of media and technology in the classroom. No longer are the teacher and the textbook the sources of all knowledge. The teacher becomes the director of the knowledge-access process.
Along the continuum of instructional strategies, sometimes the teacher will elect to provide direct instructional experiences for the students. At other times, with a few keystrokes students can explore the world, gaining access to libraries, other teachers and students, and a host of resources to obtain the knowledge they seek.
It is essential that, as the guide for learning, the teacher examine media and technology in the context of the instruction and its potential impact on the outcome
for students.
Instruction is the arrangement of information and environment to facilitate learning. By environment we mean not only where instruction takes place but also the methods, media, and equipment needed to convey information and guide the le arner’s study. Information and environment can change depending on the instructional goal.
The arrangement of information and the environment is normally the responsibility of the instructor and the designers of media. The instructional approach can range from teacher control to learner control. But we must remember that even
with methods and media that encourage students to take control of learning, some guidance is inevitably built in.
The role of the teacher is paramount in the instructional planning process. Working with other teachers and media specialists, teachers can integrate media into their instruction to greatly magnify its impact on students.
Learning is the development of new knowledge, skills, or attitudes as an individual interacts with information and the environment. Learning takes places all the time. We learn things just walking down the street, watching TV, conversing with other people, or just observing what goes on around us.
This type of incidental learning is not our major interest as education professionals. Rather, we are concerned primarily with the learning that takes place in response to our instructional efforts. How we design and arrange instruction has a great deal to do not only with what is learned but also with how the learner uses what is learned.
Thus the instruction-learning process involves the selection, arrangement, and delivery of information in an appropriate environment and the way the learner interacts with that information.。
