Your house is a place to kick back and get comfortable. But what if it also
had 27 floors, a replica (复制品) of King Tut’s burial chamber (墓室), or an indoor garden? Make yourself at home in some of the coolest houses from around the world.
Sea Creature Shack
Naucalpan, Mexico
Here’s what it’d be like to live in a shell. Architect Javier Senosiain
designed this home to look like a real shelled sea creature called the nautilus. The house has rooms and hallways, plus a large front window with multi-colored glass. There’s even an indoor garden. The center of the house holds a TV room lined with soft sofas. If you
lived here, you’d never want to come out of your shell.
Tower Power
Mumbai, India
For a billionaire looking for new digs, the sky’s the limit. One wealthy businessman even had a 27-story tall building used as a private home for his family of
five. The tower — which supposedly cost one billion dollars — boasts a spa, ballroom, movie theater, and yoga studio. Living the high life comes at a price, though. The
building’s first electric bill reportedly totaled $115,000.
Pyramid Palace
Wadsworth, Illinois
The United States isn’t known for having pyramids (金字塔) or pharaohs (法老). But one Illinois family decided to switch things. Jim and Linda Onan built a six-story pyramid house complete with a replica of King Tut’s burial chamber, and enough gold plating to please the pickiest pharaoh. Even the family’s car s get the ancient Egyptian royal treatment — the garage is shaped like three pyramids.

Would you jump off the Great Wall of China for 300 pounds a day?
A stunt (特技表演)person is a man or woman who does all the dangerous bits of acting
work in films or on TV. This can be anything from a simple fall into a swimming pool, or
walking off the top of a tall building. It sounds like a job that you would have to be
made to try, but there are actually lots of people who want to do it.
Sarah France, twenty-four, is one of Britain’s sixteen professional stunt women
---there are one hundred and sixty stunt men in the country. We asked Sarah how she came
to be a stunt woman.
“When I was young I w as trained to be a dancer, and for seven years after school I
was hardly out of work. A dancer’s life is pretty short, though, and my father suggested I should think about doing stunt work after I’d given up dancing. I thought about it for the next two years and decided to have a go. For six months, I worked really hard every
day. I had to learn different skills---swimming, jumping, horse -riding, etc.”
Sarah finished the course in just five months and applied to the office which decides
whether you’re a ccepted as a professional stunt person or not. Two weeks after she was
accepted, Sarah was throwing off the Great Wall of China in Superman IV.
“I was very lucky to get work so quickly. I had a small part, playing a traveler who
fell off the Wall after an earthquake. The traveler’s life was saved by Superman, of course! Actually, I fell forty-five feet into a pile of cardboard boxes! You can’t use anything softer than that or you will be brought back into view of the cinema. Instead you just
have to lear n to fall properly. It’s quite dangerous but I enjoy it.”

A.they are mad B.they don’t think them dangerous
C.no training is needed D.they can earn much money

Researchers at the University of Kansas say that people can accurately judge 90 percent of a stranger’s personality simply by looking at the person’s shoes.
“Shoes convey a thin but useful slice of information about their wearers,” the authors wrote in the new study published in the Journal of Research in Personality. “Shoes serve a practical purpose, and also serve as nonverbal indications with symbolic messages. People tend to pay attention to the shoes they and others wear.”
Medical Daily notes that the number of detailed personality traits detected in the study
include a person’s general age, their gender, income, political affiliation(派别), and other personality characteristics, including someone’s emotional stability.
Lead researcher Omri Gillath said the judgments were based on the style, cost, color
and condition of someone’s shoes. In the study, 63 University of Kansas students looked
at pictures showing 208 different pairs of shoes worn by the study’s participants. Volunteers in the study were photographed in their most commonly worn shoes, and then filled out a personality questionnaire.
So, what do your shoes say about your personality?
Some of the results were expected: People with higher incomes most commonly wore
expensive shoes, and flashier footwear was typically worn by extroverts(外向者).However, some of the more specific results are interesting. For example, “practical and functional” shoes were generally worn by more “agreeable” people, while ankle boots
were more closely aligned with “aggressive” personalities.
The strangest of all may be that those who wore “uncomfortable looking” shoes tend
to have “calm” personalities. And if you have several pairs of new shoes or take exceptional care of them, you may suffer from “attachment anxiety”, spending a large amount of time worrying about what other people think of your appearance. There was even
a political calculation in the mix with mo re liberal types wearing “shabbier and less expensive” shoes.
The researchers noted that some people will choose shoe styles to mask their actual
personality traits, but researchers noted that volunteers were also likely to be unaware
that their footwear choices were revealing deep insights into their personalities.
28.We can infer from Paragraph 2 that___________.
A.shoes are vital to their wearers
B.a practical purpose is to wear shoes
C.people want to buy new shoes they pay attention to
D.shoes may give away their wearers’ information
29.Which of the following is NOT true according to the text?
A.People with high incomes probably wear expensive shoes.
B.Ankle boots are closely aligned with “aggressive” personalities.
C.People wearing “uncomfortable looking” shoes tend to be calm
D.People who wear practical and functional shoes may be hard to deal with
30.The underlined word “attachment anxiety”, probably means ___________.
A.Attached happiness to one’s personality.
B.Feeling always worried about everything.
C.Often feeling worried about his or her appearance.
D.Wasting an inordinate amount of time.
31.Which might be the best title for the passage?
A.Bad Shoes, Bad Personality. B.People Are What They Wear.
C.How To Choose Suitable Shoes D.Shoes Reflect A Person’s Personalities.

Four Ways to Make Your Shoes Feel Better
According to the American Podiatric Medical Association, the vast majority of people experience foot pain at some point in their lives. The reason for most foot pain is that
shoes fit poorly or force the feet into unnatural shapes. 36. Aside from carefully selecting the right shoes, there are some easy measures you can take to keep foot pain
at bay.
1. Stretch Your Shoes
If your feet are rubbing against your shoes, this could indicate that you need more
width, length or both. However, sometimes going to the next larger size is not an option, as the next size may be too large. 37.
2. Using Shoe Inserts
Both podiatrists(足病医生)and those in the shoe repair industry often recommend
inserts to increase shoe comfort. 38.Determining the best insert for your shoes depends
on what hurts.
3. 39.
The way you lace(用带子系紧)your shoes can make a world of difference in their comfort. Lacing them too tightly or incorrectly can make your feet hurt. Cramped toes, rubbing on
the top of the foot, and pressure on the big toe can likely be relieved if you lace your
shoes differently.
4. Wearing Socks
40.They are usually made of cotton or nylon. Not only do they add an extra layer of
cushion to your shoes but they also keep your feet from sweating. This prevents moisture
(水汽)from forming in the shoes. Moisture in your shoes can cause blisters and calluses on your feet.
A.Adjusting Shoe Laces
B.Buy Shoes without Shoe Laces
C.There are a lot of shoe inserts to choose from
D.Therefore, you need to know the size of the shoes that are fit for your feet

How to Communicate with Our Parents
Good morning, everyone,I'd like to share my ideas about the topic of communicating
with our parents.Parents are the people who love us most,so it's necessary to keep a
good relationship with them. Here are my ideas on how to make it easier to communicate
with parents.First,we should respect and trust our parents.Don't be rude to them even
if they have done something wrong. They have experienced more and always try their best
to protect us from dangers.Second,if we o ften talk with them about our life and experiences,we will know each other better. What's more,we can often tell our parents how much we
love them.Remember what they really want is only the best for us.
