一、八年级英语下册阅读理解专项练习(含答案解析)
1.阅读理解
Every morning my father buys a newspaper on his way to work. Every evening my mother looks through magazines at home. And every night, I look at the posters with photos of David Beckham and Yao Ming on my bedroom wall before I go to sleep. Can we imagine life without paper or print?
Paper was first created about 2,000 years ago, and has been made from silk, cotton, bamboo, and, since the 19th century, from wood. People learned to write words on paper to make a book. But in those days, books could only be produced one at a time by hand. As a result, they were expensive and rare. And because there weren't many books, few people learned to read.
Then printing was invented in China. When printing was developed greatly at the beginning of the 11th century, books could be produced more quickly and cheaply. As a result, more people learned to read. After that, knowledge and ideas spread quickly.
Today information can be received online, downloaded from the Internet rather than found in books, and information can be kept on CD-ROMs or machines such as MP3 players.
Computers are already used in classrooms, and newspapers and magazines can already be read online. So will books be replaced by computers one day? No, I don't think the Yao Ming posters on my bedroom wall will ever be replaced by a two-metre-high computer!

Body language is the quiet, secret and most powerful language of all! It is said that our body movements communicate about 50 per cent of what we really mean while words themselves only express 7 per cent. So, while your mouth is closed, your body is just saying...
Arms. How you hold your arms shows how open and receptive you are to people you meet. If you keep your arms to the sides of your body or behind your back, this suggests you are not afraid of taking on whatever comes your way. Outgoing people generally use their arms with big movements, while quieter people keep them close to their bodies. If someone upsets you, just cross your arms to show you're unhappy!
Head. When you want to appear confident, keep your head level. If you are the monitor in class, you can also take on this position when you want your words to be taken seriously. However, to be friendly in listening or speaking, you must move your head a little to one side.
Legs. Your legs tend to move around a lot more than normal when you are nervous or telling lies. If you are at interviews, try to keep them still!
Posture(姿势). A good posture makes you feel better about yourself. If you are feeling down, you normally don't sit straight, with your shoulders inwards. This makes breathing more difficult, which in turn can make you feel nervous or uncomfortable.
Mouth. When you are thinking, you often purse your lips(噘起嘴唇). You might also use this position to hold back an angry comment you don't wish to show. However it will probably still be noticed, and people will know you're not pleased.
(1)How many kinds of body language are mentioned in this passage?
A. Three.
B. Four.
C. Five.

A. want others to take your words seriously
B. want to be friendly in listening
C. want to be polite
D. want to make fun of others

根据When you are thinking, you often purse your lips(噘起嘴唇). You might also use this position to hold back an angry comment you don't wish to show可知撅起嘴唇表明是不高兴的,如果撅起嘴唇没有被注意到,他人不会知道你不高兴,所以it代指撅起嘴唇,故选D。

Sara was sitting in the kitchen going over the party list with her mother. The exams were over and Sara wanted to invite her friends for a party and have fun.
"Sara, aren't you going to invite Ada?" her mother asked. Ada had been her best friend since childhood.
"Mother, you know I am now a member of Purple Girls Club and we have some rules about people we can be friends with." Sara answered in a low voice.
"Really? And what are the rules?" her mother asked in surprise.
"Well, only very pretty girls can be part of our group. And Ada is so...you know...dark."
"I can't believe it." her mother said angrily.
As Sara left the kitchen, her father called her from the living room. Sara went to her father and got nervous when she saw the exam report in his hands.
"Sara, what has happened to your grades? You have failed in math." her father said.
Sara had no answer. The truth was that the activities of Purple Girls Club left her with very little time for studies.
"Sara, it says that you can take part in supplementary exams. If your grades don't improve then, I'll cancel your trip to Spain in the coming holiday."
Sara went to her room and called Gina, the leader of Purple Girls Club.
"Gina, can you help me to complete my notes before the exams?"
Gina just said, "Exams? Who cares about exams?"
One by one, she called all her friends in the club but no one seemed to care or wanted to help her. Then Sara thought of Ada. She knew Ada would help her. She also knew Ada had been hurt by her, but Ada said, "If you need any help, just let me know. We can study together till your exams."
Next Monday, as the two friends entered the school together, Gina called out, "Sara, you know our club rules. You can't be friends with those who do not belong to our club."

Are you shy? If you are, you are not alone. In fact, close to 50 percent of people are shy. Almost 80 percent of people feel shy at some point in their lives. These days, shyness is becoming more and more common. Now, scientists are trying to understand shyness. They have some interesting ideas about why people are shy.
Is it possible to be born shy? Many scientists say yes. They say 15 to 20 percent of babies behave shyly. These babies are a little quieter and more watchful than other babies. Interestingly, these shy babies usually have shy parents. As a result, scientists think that some shyness is genetic.
Family size might cause people to be shy as well. Scientists at Harvard University studied shy children. They found that 66 percent of them had older brothers and sisters. The scientists said that these children were often bullied(欺负)by their older brothers and sisters. As a result, they became shy. At the same time, children with no brothers and sisters may be shy as well. Growing up alone, they often play by themselves. They are not able to learn the same social skills as children from big families.
You may also be shy because of where you were born. When scientists studied shyness in different countries, they found surprising differences. In Japan, most people said they were shy. But in Israel, only one of three people said so. What explains the difference? One scientist says
the Japanese and Israelis have different opinions of failure. In Japan, when people do not succeed, they feel bad about themselves. They blame(责备)themselves for their failure. In Israel, the opposite is true. Israelis often blame failure on outside reasons, such as family, teachers, friends or bad luck. In Israel, freedom of opinion and risk taking are strongly supported. This may be why Israelis worry less about failure and are less shy.
For shy people, it can be difficult to make friends, speak in class, and even get a good job. But scientists say you can get over your shyness. They suggest trying new things and practicing conversations. And don't forget-if you are shy, you are not the only one.

They think that space vegetables might not be good for us and could make us get sick because of the radiation in space. However, people should not be frightened because space vegetables are very healthy.
Here are some facts that you should know about space vegetables.
Space vegetables are grown from seeds that are carefully chosen. When seeds are brought back from space they are tested to make sure that they will be safe to eat.
Space vegetables are better for you than normal vegetables. For example, space tomatoes stay fresh for twenty days, which is one week longer than normal tomatoes。
After genetically modified (转基因)food appeared in the market, people worried that they were eating unknown things. For example, if nut genes(坚果基因)are put inside potatoes, people allergic(过敏的) to nuts might get sick from eating these potatoes because they do not know they are also eating nuts. Unlike genetically modified food, space vegetables have not been genetically changed. This means that no new genes are put into the vegetables. Therefore, there are no dangers of eating unknown.

There are many wetlands in China and some of them have become the world's important wetlands. The Chinese Yellow Sea Wetlands are among them. They are in Yancheng, Jiangsu Province. They are home to many different kinds of animals. The world's largest Milu Deer Nature Reserve is in them. More than 700 Milu deer live freely there. There are not many red- crowned cranes in the world, but every winter you can see some in the Red-crowned Crane Nature Reserve in the Yellow Sea Wetlands.
The temperature in the wetlands is usually neither too high nor too low. There is a lot of rain and sunshine too. They are really good places for wildlife. Offering(提供) food and home to some special kinds of animals is not the only reason why we need to protect wetlands. Wetlands are important because they also prevent flood.
