外国语学院现有在职教师237人,其中教授64名,拥有博士学位的教师122人,占教师总数的51.5%,教师队伍高度多元化,有一批从世界各地的名校学成归国的博士,还有15位长期外教。
现有在校本科生、硕士生、博士生1200余名,其中本科生800余名。

北大英语公开课程—大学英语<课程介绍>教学目标培养学生听、说、读、写、译综合语言运用能力和人文素养。
教学内容从1987年至今,大学英语课程实行分级、分课型教学,对不同类型的学生因材施教,使不同水平的学生有不同程度的提高。
北京大学的大学英语课程分为两大部分,第一部分为基础课,其目的是帮助学生打下扎实的语言基础,提高语言的实际运用能力。
基础课分为大学英语一级、二级、三级和四级,分综合、阅读和听说三种课型授课。
新生入学后,参加分级考试,按成绩分别编入一级、二级、三级和四级。
未达到北京大学大学英语入学要求的学生,编入预备级。
大学英语一级、二级、三级和四级每学期2学分,每周2学时。
第二部分为选修课,选修课每周2学时,每学期2学分。
选修课分为专题课和通选课。
专题课的目的是培养学生的语言应用技能。
通选课的目的是提高学生的文化素养。
专题课包括高级英语阅读与写作,应用性与创造性英语写作,高级英语听力技巧,美国英语语音,实用英语词汇学,英汉对译理论与技巧、英汉对比研究、社科英语文献选读、大学英语口语,英语名著与电影,英语词汇与英美文化,英语听说,职场英语,文艺复兴艺术作品与圣经故事,英语传统诗歌精华,美国短篇小说与电影等,通选课包括西方学术精华概况,中西文化比较,莎士比亚戏剧名篇赏析等。
每位学生必须至少修满大学英语8学分方可毕业。
教学方法及特点我们的教学特点是,建立多媒体教学体系,充分利用多媒体、网络等现代化手段,以教师面授与学生自主学习相结合,并配设教师答疑与辅导。
为保证各门课程的教学质量,大学英语教研室的教师坚持集体备课,互相切磋,共同探讨如何在传统的课堂教学模式基础上,利用现代化教学手段,丰富教学内容,提高学生的自主学习能力。
为方便教学,我们自己开发建设了“北京大学大学英语网络教学平台”。
教师面授采用多媒体现代化教学手段,,课堂信息量增大,趣味性、多样性增强。
学生自主学习,主要依托“北京大学大学英语网络教学平台”以及出版社提供的多媒体光盘课件,大大增强了学生的学习的效率和他们的自主学习能力。
在建设多媒体英语教学体系的时候,我们的出发点是将多媒体作为教学辅助手段,教师面对面授课仍在整体教学中占主导地位。
我们要求学生不仅要英语语言好,而且能通过英语学习,广泛涉猎西方文化及人文思想,从而提高整体素质。
我们坚持英语语言和英语思维同时培训的做法,克服了应试教学中只重视语言点,忽略英语语言的整体性的缺点,使学生能够听、说、读、写并进,从而大大提高了英语语言的应用能力。
<教学大纲>随着中国加入世贸组织和科技日新月异的发展,国家对大学毕业生的英语提出了更高的要求。
为了规范大学英语教学,提高大学英语教学质量,根据教育部《大学英语课程教学要求》和北京大学大学英语教学的实际情况,特制定本教学大纲。
教学目标大学英语是北京大学一门必修的公共基础课,是大学教育的一个重要组成部分。
北京大学大学英语课程的教学目的是:通过本课程的教学,提高学生的语言综合运用能力和人文素质,使他们毕业后能够运用英语进行有效的国际交流。
教学要求根据学生入校水平,经过大学阶段学习,1/3学生毕业时要达到教育部制定的《大学英语课程教学要求》中的更高要求,2/3的学生要达到较高要求。
具体标准为:1.词汇:毕业时掌握总词汇量为5500-7000个单词和1500-1700个词组。
其中掌握复用式词汇为3500词。
2. 阅读:能借助字典读懂英语原版书籍和英语国家报刊杂志上的文章。
能比较顺利地阅读自己专业有关的文献。
速度达到130wpm,准确率为75%。
3. 听:能基本听懂英语国家正常语速的广播电视节目和英语国家人士内容较长的会话。
能听懂自己专业方面的讲座,并掌握中心大意,抓住要点和有关细节。
4. 说:能就一般或专业性的话题较为流利、准确地进行对话或讨论,能基本表达个人意见、情感、观点,能基本陈述事实和理由,表达思想清楚,语言、语调基本正确;一部分同学能在国际会议和专业交流中比较自如地表达自己的观点和看法。
5. 写:能就一般性主题比较自如地表达个人观点,做到文章结构清晰、内容丰富、逻辑性强。
争取能熟练撰写专业文章摘要,专业读书报告和自己专业的英文小论文。
能在30分钟就各种题材写出200词的左右的短文,力求内容完整,文理通顺,思想表达清楚。
6. 译:能借助字典翻译英美报刊上有一定难度的科普、文化、评论等文章,能翻译反映中国国情或文化的介绍性文章。
译速为每小时400单词或汉字,译文基本通顺、达意,理解和语言错误较少。
课程设置北京大学大学英语课程分为两个模块。
第一模块为基础课程,其目的是使学生打好扎实的语言基础,形成良好的学习方法。
基础课程分为大学英语一级、二级、三级和四级,每学期2学分,每周2学时。
第二模块为选修课,选修课分为专题课和通选课。
专题课的目的是培养学生的语言应用技能;通选课的目的是提高学生的文化素养。
选修课每周2学时,每学期2学分。
每位本科学生必须至少修满大学英语8学分方可毕业。
北京大学大学英语课程模块教学实施1.分级教学新生入学后参加北京大学大学英语分级考试。
学生按分级考试成绩进入大学英语一级、二级、三级、四级或预备级学习。
在修满8学分后,学生还可根据个人兴趣继续学习选修课,进一步提高自身的语言技能和人文素质。
2.教学目标按教育部《大学英语课程教学要求》中推荐的听、说、读、写、译能力较高指标和更高指标的要求开展教学,力争让学生达到《大学英语课程教学要求》中推荐的更高要求。
3.实施办法各门课程都有具体的课程描述和教学大纲,其内容包括教学目标、教学内容、要求、教学进度、评估方法等。
4.课程建设努力开设形式多样、内容丰富的语言技能型课程和文化型课程,满足学生选课的要求,提高学生应用英语的能力和人文素养。
5.考核考核分笔试与口试。
期末考试为闭卷结业考试,考试内容与所学课程相关。
根据各级情况,主观题比例占40%-50%,期末考试成绩占学生总评成绩的60%-80%,期中考试成绩和平时成绩(测验,作业,出勤等)共占20%-40%。
6.教学方法采用课堂教学和自主学习相结合的方式,充分运用先进的多媒体网络等现代化教育技术手段,引入计算机多媒体教学和网络教学平台,采用全方位、立体化、个性化的多媒体教学手段,提高教学效率和教学质量。
大学英语各级课程要求《大学英语一级》选课条件:领会式掌握1800个单词(其中复用式掌握的单词为1200),并在读、听、写、说等方面受过初步的训练者。
分级考试成绩60分以下者。
学习目标:经过一个学期的学习,掌握新词1200,使累计领会式词汇达到3000,其中复用式词汇1800单词。
具体标准:读:能基本读懂一般性题材的英文文章或国内英文报刊,阅读速度达到90wpm,准确率为75%。
听:能听懂英语授课,能听懂慢速英语广播电视节目和语速为每分钟110wmp的一般性会话、报道和讲座。
说:能在学习中用英语交流,并能就某一主题进行1分钟左右的陈述或讨论。
写:能在半小时内就各种题材写出100字的短文,内容完整,条理清晰,用词恰当。
译:翻译一定难度的英语文章段落,速度每小时250词,翻译题材熟悉的汉语文章段落,速度为每小时200词,译文基本流畅。
《大学英语二级》学分:2,周课时:2选课条件:通过大学英语一级或在分级考试成绩达到60-74分者学习目标:经过一个学期的学习,掌握新词1200,使累计领会式词汇达到4200,其中复用式词汇2500单词。
具体标准:读:能基本读懂一般性题材的英文文章或国内英文报刊,阅读速度达到100wpm,准确率为75%。
听:能听懂英语授课,能听懂慢速英语广播电视节目和语速为每分钟120wmp的一般性会话、报道和讲座。
说:能在学习中用英语交流,并能就某一主题进行连续2分钟左右的陈述或讨论。
写:能在半小时内就各种题材写出120字的短文,内容完整,条理清晰,用词恰当。

《大学英语三级》选课条件:通过大学英语二级或在分级考试成绩达到75-85分者。

听:能听懂英语国家人士的谈话和讲座以及题材熟悉的国内英语广播或电视节目,语速为每分钟130-150wmp。

《大学英语四级》学分:2,周课时:2选课条件:通过大学英语三级或分级考试成绩达到86分以上者学习目标:新增词汇1200,累计领会式词汇达到6600,其中复用式词汇4000词。
具体标准为:读:能读懂英语国家大众性报刊杂志的一般性题材的文章,阅读速度达到130wpm,准确率为75%。
听:能听懂语速每分钟150--170wmp的一般性会话、报道和讲座。
说:能就某一主题进行连续5分钟左右的较流利的陈述,能就专业性话题较为流利地进行一般性辩论。
写:能在30分钟就各种题材写出150-200字的短文,内容完整,条理清晰,句子连贯。
译:翻译一定难度的英语文章段落,速度为每小时400词,翻译题材熟悉的汉语文章段落,速度为每小时400词。
