江苏省苏州市常熟市2020-2021学年高二上期初考试英语试题一、阅读选择Many of us love July because it’s the month when nature’s berries and stone fruits are in abundance. These colourful and sweet jewels form British Columbia’s fields are little powerhouses of nutritional protection.Of the common berries, strawberries are highest in vitamin C, although, because of their seeds, raspberries contain a little more protein (蛋白质), iron and zinc (not that fruits have much protein). Blueberries are particularly high in antioxidants (抗氧化物质). The yellow and orange stone fruits such as peaches are high in the carotenoids we turn into vitamin A and which are antioxidants. As for cherries (樱桃), they are so delicious who cares? However, they are rich in vitamin C.When combined with berries of slices of other fruits, frozen bananas make an excellent base for thick, cooling fruit shakes and low fat “ice cream”. For this purpose, select ripe bananas for freezing as they are much sweeter. Remove the skin and place them in plastic bags or containers and freeze. If you like, a squeeze of fresh lemon juice on the bananas will prevent them turning brown. Frozen bananas will last several weeks, depending on their ripeness and the temperature of the freezer. If you have a juicer, you can simply feed in frozen bananas and some berries or sliced fruit. Out comes a “soft-serve” creamy dessert, to be eaten right away. This makes a fun activity for a children’s party; they love feeding the fruit and frozen bananas into the top of the machine and watching the ice cream come out below.1.What does the author seem to like about cherries?A.They contain protein. B.They are high in vitamin A.C.They have a pleasant taste. D.They are rich in antioxidants.2.Why is fresh lemon juice used in freezing bananas?A.To make them smell better. B.To keep their colour.C.To speed up their ripening. D.To improve their nutrition.3.What is “a juicer” in the last paragraph?A.A dessert. B.A drink.C.A container. D.A machine.4.From which is the text probably taken?A.A biology textbook. B.A health magazine.C.A research paper. D.A travel brochure.【答案】1.C2.B3.D4.B【分析】本文是一篇日常生活类说明文。

Pressure to learn people's names only adds to the stress.A new facial-recognition app could come to the rescue, but privacy experts recommend proceeding with caution. The app, called SocialRecall, connects names with faces via smartphone cameras and facial recognition, potentially avoiding the need for formal introductions."It breaks down these social barriers we all have when meeting somebody,"says Barry Sandrew, who created the app and tested it at an event attended by about 1,000 people. After receiving an invitation to download SocialRecall from an event organizer, the user is asked to take two selfies and sign in via social media. At the event, the app is active within a previously defined geographical area. When a user points his or her phone camera at an attendee's face, the app identifies the individual, displays the person's name, and links to his or her social media profile. To protect privacy,it recognizes only those who have agreed to participate. And the app' s creators say it automatically deletes users' data after an event.Ann Cavoukian,a privacy expert who runs the Privacy by Design Center of Excellence praises the app' s creators for these protective measures. She cautions, however, that when people choose to share their personal information with the app, they should know that"there may be unintended consequences down the road with that information being used in another context that might come back to bite you."The start-up has also developed a version of the app for individuals who suffer from prosopagnosia,or"face blindness,"a condition that prevents people from recognizing individuals they have met.To use this app,a person first acquires an image of someone's face, from either thesmartphone's camera or a photograph, and then tags it with a name. When the camera spots that same face in real life, the previously entered information is displayed. The collected data are stored only on a user's phone, according to the team behind the app.24.SocialRecall is used toA.take photosB.identify peopleanize eventsD.make friends25.Paragraph 3 is mainly aboutA.how the app worksB.how the app was createdC.what makes the app popularD.what people can do with the app26.SocialRecall helps people with prosopagnosia byA.giving names to the photos kept in their smartphonesB.collecting information previously entered in the phoneC.providing the information of a person when they first meetD.showing the person's information when it spots a stored face27.What can we learn about SocialRecall from the passage?A.It may put people's privacy at risk.B.It has caused unintended consequences.C.It can prevent some communication disorders.D.It is praised by users for its protective measures.COn July 17,2017,Olympic diver Greg Louganis and his birth father,Fouvale Lutu, finally wrapped their arms around each other in their first official father-son hug."It was just meant to be,"Louganis said of joining his father in Honolulu for an extended Lutu family reunion."It's sowonderful to have him with us,"said Lutu, whose three other children were also in attendance. "And this is more of a beginning,"added Louganis. But the four-day celebration also marked the conclusion of an emotional lifelong journey for Louganis,57,who was put up for adoption as a baby and struggled for years with the feeling that his biological parents never loved him.His adoptive parents were always open with him about that. But the adoption organization had lost Louganis's files in a fire, and unanswered questions led to troubled times for the young ter, Louganis got to know his biological parents had been young and had no choice in giving him up for adoption."That kind of helped ease the question of whether I was loved,"he said.Feeling more"at peace"about his family,Louganis turned his focus to diving.By the time he was 28,he'd become a four-time Olympic gold medalist.Among his biggest fans was Lutu, who for years had quietly followed his son's life from afar. Then in 1984,Lutu decided to meet him when Louganis was in Honolulu.Face-to-face with his son for the first time,Lutu was emotional."Like me,he's a man of few words. But he told me he'd wanted to raise me,"said Louganis.Despite his skepticism, Louganis continued to meet with Lutu."He never asked for anything,"said Louganis."He just wanted to know if I was okay and that I was happy."The reunion gave Louganis a lot to look forward to."I have family there,"he said, almost in disbelief."It's an incredible gift that I've been given."28.What happened to Louganis on July 17,2017?A.He won an Olympic gold medal.B.
