China has undergone tremendous changes and development in the past few decades. One of the most noticeable changes is the rapid urbanization. When I was a child, I lived in a small rural village in China. However, when I visited my hometown recently, I was amazed to see how much it has transformed into a bustling town with modern infrastructure and facilities. The roads are wider, there are more high-rise buildings, and even the traditional houses have been renovated.Another significant change is the improvement in living standards. People in China now have better access to education, healthcare, and consumer goods. For example, my parents used to struggle to provide for our family, but now they have a more comfortable life with access to better healthcare and a wider variety of products. Moreover, China's technological advancement has been remarkable. The country has become a global leader in technology and innovation. For instance, Chinese companies like Huawei and Xiaomi have gained internationalrecognition for their high-quality products. The development of e-commerce and mobile payment systems has also made life more convenient for the Chinese people.

1China Then and NowChina is a really old country with a very long history. It has changed a lot over the centuries. When I learn about ancient China in school, some things seem very different from today, while other things are still quite similar. One of the biggest differences is how people lived and what their homes were like. A long time ago, most people in China were farmers who lived in rural villages. Their houses were usually made of wood, brick, or other simple materials like packed earth. The wealthy nobles and emperors lived in huge palace complexes with fancy buildings, gardens, and courtyards. But for regular people, homes were small and basic, with just a few rooms for the whole family.Nowadays, while some villages still exist, the majority of people in China live in big, modern cities full of tall apartment buildings and bustling neighborhoods. Their homes have electricity, running water, heaters, air conditioning, and all themodern conveniences. Even in the countryside, most houses have been replaced by sturdier concrete or brick structures with better amenities. The way people dressed was quite different too. In ancient times, the types of clothes you wore depended a lot on your social status and gender. Commoners wore simple cotton or silk garments, while the upper classes had very ornate styles with embroidery, colors, and accessories that showed their wealth and rank. Women had to follow many rules about modesty and wore restricting clothes like long gowns or dresses with tiny slippers for bound feet. Men could wear tunics, robes, or even pants in some dynasties.Contrast that with fashion today, where people can wear pretty much whatever modern styles or comfortable clothing they want. Things like jeans, t-shirts, sneakers, and casual wear are super common. There are fewer strict rules about what's acceptable, and the focus is more on personal taste rather than showing social status.Another major difference is transportation. Hundreds of years ago, the main ways to get around were by walking, riding animals like horses, or taking very simple carts or sedan chairs carried by people or animals. It was slow and difficult to travellong distances. The ancient Silk Road trade routes were a huge deal because they connected China to faraway lands and civilizations.Compare that to today's modern transportation network of highways, high-speed rail, airports, and advancedshipping/logistics all over China. Cars, buses, trains, and planes can get people and goods across the country or even the world in a matter of hours or days instead of months. This increased connectivity has really shrunk the world. In terms of similarities though, some key things haven't changed that much over the centuries. The importance of family, with reverence for ancestors and filial piety, is still hugely valued in Chinese culture, both then and now. Having children, especially sons, to continue the family line used to be absolutely essential in the past, and starting a family is still very meaningful for most Chinese people today.Food is another throughline in Chinese culture and daily life. Sure, the ingredients, recipes, and cooking methods have evolved over time. But the joy of coming together to share flavorful dishes with family and friends carries on as an important tradition in both ancient and modern times. I love seeing howsome of my favorite meals have origins dating back hundreds or even thousands of years.Respect for learning, knowledge, and education has long been a core value in Chinese society. The ancient civil service exam system selected scholar-officials based on their mastery of texts. While the exact system has changed, a strong focus on academics, achievement, and credentialism persists today. Getting a good education is still seen as the path to career success and providing for one's family. So in many ways, China has transformed almost beyond recognition when it comes to technology, development, and modern living standards. But other essential aspects of the culture, values, and core identity have remained more consistent over the long sweep of its civilization. It's fascinating to see how some things evolve dramatically while other traditions continue through the centuries. China has such a rich, ancient history, but it's also a rapidly developing 21st century power. Learning about both the old and new of China gives me a lot to think about.篇2China: Then and NowHi! My name is Xiaoming, and I'm a 5th grader at a primary school in Beijing. Today, I want to share with you how China has changed over the years by comparing the past and present. It's going to be an exciting journey through time!Let's start with the cities. In the past, most cities in China were quite small and simple. The streets were narrow, and the buildings were low-rise. People lived in traditional courtyard houses or small apartments. However, nowadays, Chinese cities have undergone a massive transformation. They are filled with towering skyscrapers, modern apartments, and wide roads. The skylines are breathtaking, with bright lights illuminating the night sky.Another significant change is transportation. Back in the day, people mostly traveled by bicycle, bus, or on foot. The roads were often crowded with pedestrians and cyclists. Nowadays, while bicycles and buses are still used, many people own private cars or take the subway to get around. The subways in major cities like Beijing and Shanghai are incredibly efficient and convenient.Speaking of technology, the advancements we've made are mind-blowing! In the past, people relied on landlines and letters to communicate. Televisions and radios were the primarysources of entertainment. Nowadays, almost everyone has a smartphone, and we can access the internet, watch videos, play games, and chat with friends anytime, anywhere. We even have high-speed trains that connect different parts of the country!Education has also evolved significantly. In the past, schools were quite strict, and the focus was mainly on memorization and exams. Nowadays, while academic performance is still important, schools encourage students to think critically, participate in extracurricular activities, and develop diverse interests. We have access to a wealth of educational resources, including online courses and interactive learning platforms.Let's not forget about the environment. In the past, pollution was a major issue in many Chinese cities. The air was often hazy, and factories emitted a lot of smoke. Nowadays, the government has implemented stricter environmental regulations, and there's a greater emphasis on sustainability. More people are using public transportation, and there are more green spaces and parks in cities.Another aspect that hasn't changed much is the importance of food in Chinese culture. In the past, people gathered for lavish banquets and feasts to mark special occasions. Nowadays, we still cherish the art of cooking and sharing meals with loved ones. From humble street foods to exquisite regional cuisines, Chinese cuisine remains as diverse and delicious as ever.Overall, China has undergone tremendous changes in recent decades. While we've embraced modernity and technological advancements, we've also maintained our rich cultural heritage. As a young Chinese student, I'm proud of my country's progress, and I'm excited to witness and contribute to its future development. That's all for now, folks! I hope you found this comparison between the past and present China interesting. Remember, change is the only constant, and it's up to us to shape a better future for our beloved country.篇3Title: China Then and NowHave you ever wondered what China was like in the past? Well, let me tell you, it was a very different place! China has gone through some incredible changes over the years, and it's fascinating to see how far it has come.Back in the old days, China was a vast land filled with traditions and ancient customs. People lived a simpler life, closely connected to nature and the land. They worked hard on farms, planting crops and raising animals to feed their families. Life revolved around the cycle of the seasons, and people celebrated important festivals like the Spring Festival (Chinese New Year) and the Mid-Autumn Festival. In those times, cities were much smaller, and people got around on foot, by horse, or in rickshaws pulled by strong men. The streets were narrow and winding, lined with traditional buildings made of wood and brick. Families lived together in one-story houses, with courtyards in the middle where they could relax and enjoy the fresh air.Back then, education was different too. Children went to small schools where they learned to read and write using ancient books and calligraphy brushes. They studied subjects like poetry, philosophy, and the teachings of great thinkers like Confucius. Education was a privilege, and only the wealthiest families could afford to send their children to school.Nowadays, China is a rapidly developing country with modern cities, towering skyscrapers, and cutting-edge technology. The pace of life is much faster, and people are always on the move. Cities like Beijing, Shanghai, andGuangzhou are bustling hubs of activity, with millions of people living and working there.Transportation has evolved tremendously. Instead of walking or riding horses, people now travel by car, bus, train, or even high-speed bullet trains that can reach incredible speeds. The streets are wide and lined with tall buildings made of glass and steel. Traffic can be a real challenge, with so many vehicles on the road!Education has also changed a lot. Today, all children in China have access to free education until they finish high school. Schools are much larger and more modern, with computers, smart boards, and even virtual reality technology to enhance learning. Students study a wide range of subjects, including math, science, literature, and foreign languages like English. One thing that hasn't changed much is the importance of festivals and celebrations. The Spring Festival (Chinese New Year) is still the biggest and most important holiday in China. Families come together to enjoy special foods, watch fireworks, and give out red envelopes with money to children. The Mid-Autumn Festival is also celebrated with mooncakes and lantern displays.Despite all these changes, China has managed to hold onto its rich cultural heritage. You can still find traditional Chinesearchitecture, like the Forbidden City in Beijing or the stunning gardens of Suzhou. Ancient practices like tai chi, calligraphy, and traditional Chinese medicine are still practiced and appreciated. One of the most significant changes in China has been the rise of technology and innovation. China is now a global leader in fields like artificial intelligence, robotics, and renewable energy. Companies like Huawei, Tencent, and Alibaba are at the forefront of technological advancements, shaping the way we live and work.Life in modern China is a fascinating blend of old and new. You can find ultra-modern high-rises standing next to ancient temples, and people using cutting-edge smartphones while practicing age-old traditions. It's a place of contrasts, where the past and present collide in exciting and unexpected ways.As China continues to grow and develop, it's important to remember and cherish its rich cultural heritage. The rapid pace of change can sometimes make it easy to forget the traditions and customs that have been passed down for generations. But by embracing both the old and the new, China can continue to thrive and become an even more prosperous and influential nation on the global stage. So, whether you're a history buff fascinated by China's ancient past or someone interested in its modern technological advancements, there's something for everyone in this vast and ever-changing country. China truly is a land of contrasts, where the old and the new coexist in harmony, creating a unique and vibrant culture that captivates the world.篇4The Changing Face of ChinaChina is a country with a very long history going back thousands of years. When I learn about ancient China in school, it seems like a totally different world compared to the China I live in today. Let me tell you about some of the biggest differences I've noticed between the past and present in China.TransportationIn ancient times, the main ways people got around in China were by walking, riding animals like horses or donkeys, or traveling in very simple carts pulled by animals. Can you imagine having to walk everywhere you needed to go? My legs would get so tired! The roads back then were also very rough and bumpy.Nowadays, we have all kinds of modern transportation that makes life much easier. We can travel by car, bus, train, airplane and even high-speed bullet trains that go over 300 km/hr! The roads and highways are nicely paved and make travelling smooth. In big cities like Beijing, we also have subways and metro systems to get around quickly. No more relying just on our feet to get places!TechnologyFrom what I've learned, people living in ancient China didn't have much advanced technology at all. They used basic tools made of wood, stone or metal for farming, construction and everyday living. Writing was done with brushes dipped in ink rather than pens or computers. The only way to send messages was by messenger travelling on foot or horseback. But today's China is super high-tech! We have smartphones, computers, robots, modern factories and machines that can do almost anything. I love playing video games and watching movies/shows streamed on my tablet. Chinese scientists have even sent astronauts into space! Written communication is easy through texting, email and social media. China is working hard to be a world leader in developing cutting-edge technologies.CitiesA lot of China used to be rural areas with small villages and very few large cities. Most people were farmers who lived in simple houses made of materials like wood, brick or bamboo. The biggest cities like Beijing were still much smaller than today with mostly palaces, temples and houses clustered together. Now China has huge, modern megacities absolutely packed with people! Places like Shanghai have forest of skyscraper buildings, bright neon signs everywhere and crowds of pedestrians and vehicles. My city isn't as big as those but it's still developed with apartment towers, shopping malls, office buildings and well-paved streets. I've seen pictures of ancient cities and they look totally different from Chinese cities today.FoodWhile many classic Chinese dishes have recipes dating back hundreds of years, the way food is prepared and eaten has changed a lot over time. Long ago, there was no refrigeration so all foods had to be eaten very fresh or preserved through methods like drying, pickling or salting. All cooking was done over wood fire pits rather than modern stoves and ovens. These days, we have electric fridges to keep things cold as well as microwaves and modern kitchens to cook food easily. My mom can just pop something frozen in the microwave for aninstant meal. There are convenient restaurants, cafes and food delivery services all over my city too. China has also adopted more international foods like pizza, burgers and barbeque in addition to our own traditional cuisine.EducationOne of the biggest differences is how students get an education. During ancient times in China, only very few boys from wealthy families went to school. They studied classics like poetry, literature, history and Confucian philosophy through rote memorization. Lessons were taught by private tutors or at academies using methods like repeatedly copying texts and recitation. Girls unfortunately did not receive any formal education at all.In modern China today, all children (boys and girls) are able to attend school from elementary ages up throughcollege/university if desired. We learn a wide range of subjects beyond just classics - math, science, art, music, computer skills and more. Our classroom lessons use up-to-date textbooks,篇5Here's a 2000-word essay comparing China in the past and present, written from the perspective of a 5th-grade student in English:China: Then and NowHi there! My name is Lily, and I'm a 5th-grade student. Today, I'm going to talk about how China has changed over time. It's really fascinating to see the differences between the way things were in the past and how they are now. Let's dive in!Life in Ancient ChinaImagine living thousands of years ago in ancient China. It was a very different world back then. People lived in small villages and worked as farmers or craftsmen. They didn't have modern technology like computers, smartphones, or even electricity. Everything had to be done by hand, from plowing the fields to weaving clothes. One of the most amazing things about ancient China was the Great Wall. It's a massive structure that stretches for thousands of miles across the country. It was built to protect China from invaders, and it took hundreds of years to complete. Can you imagine how difficult it must have been to construct something so enormous without modern tools and machinery?Another fascinating aspect of ancient China was its rich culture and traditions. People practiced ancient religions like Taoism and Buddhism. They celebrated festivals like the Lunar New Year, which is still a major holiday in China today. Art and literature were highly valued, and scholars spent years studying ancient texts and writing poetry.Life in Modern ChinaNow, let's fast-forward to the present day. China has undergone an incredible transformation in recent decades. It has become a global superpower with a booming economy and rapidly developing cities. One of the most striking changes is the rise of technology. China is now a leader in fields like artificial intelligence, robotics, and renewable energy. People in cities like Shanghai and Beijing use smartphones, ride high-speed trains, and live in towering skyscrapers. It's a far cry from the rural villages of ancient times.Another significant change is the improving standard of living for many Chinese people. While poverty and inequality still exist, millions have been lifted out of poverty, and the middle class is growing rapidly. People have access to better education, healthcare, and job opportunities than ever before. However, this rapid development has also brought challenges. Air pollution and environmental degradation are major issues in many cities. Traffic congestion and overcrowding are also problems as more and more people flock to urban areas.Despite these challenges, China is making efforts to address them. For example, the government has implemented policies to promote clean energy and reduce emissions. There is also a renewed focus on preserving traditional culture and heritage sites, like the Forbidden City and the Terracotta Warriors. My PerspectiveAs a kid growing up in the 21st century, it's hard for me to imagine what life was like in ancient China. I'm so used to having access to technology and modern conveniences. At the same time, I'm fascinated by the rich history and traditions of my country.I think it's important to strike a balance between embracing progress and preserving our cultural heritage. While it's exciting to see China's rapid development and technological advancements, we shouldn't forget the wisdom and values of our ancestors.I'm grateful for the opportunities and comforts that I have today, but I also appreciate the hard work and sacrifices made by those who came before me. Their resilience and determination helped shape the China we know today. In the future, I hope China continues to prosper while also protecting its environment and celebrating its diverse cultures. I'm proud to be part of a nation with such a rich history and bright future.Well, that's my perspective on how China has changed over time. What do you think? I'd love to hear your thoughts and experiences too!篇6China: Then and NowHi there! My name is Lily and I'm a 5th grader here in Beijing. Today, I want to share with you how much China has changed over the years by comparing the past and the present.Let's start with the cities. In the old days, Chinese cities were quite different from what we see now. The streets were narrow and crowded, with small shops and restaurants lining the roads. People used to get around on bicycles or by walking. The air wasoften filled with smoke from coal fires used for heating and cooking. Nowadays, our cities are modern and clean, with wide roads and tall skyscrapers. People drive cars and take the subway to get around. The air is much fresher thanks to strict environmental laws.Back then, most people in China lived in the countryside and worked as farmers. They lived in small villages and grew crops like rice, wheat, and vegetables. Their homes were simple, made of mud bricks or wood. Nowadays, more and more people are moving to the cities for jobs and a modern lifestyle. Farmers now use machines to help with planting and harvesting. Many rural homes have been rebuilt with bricks and concrete. When it comes to technology, the changes have been amazing! In the past, things were very basic. People used abacuses for calculations and wrote with brushes dipped in ink. Entertainment was simple too - things like shadow puppetry, opera, and storytelling. But today, we have smartphones, computers, and the internet! We can access information and entertainment from all over the world with just a few taps on a screen. Technology has also changed the way we learn in school, with smart boards and educational apps. Our traditions and culture have been preserved even as the country has modernized. Back then, people celebrated festivals like the Spring Festival (Chinese New Year) and the Mid-Autumn Festival much the same way we do now. They enjoyed arts like calligraphy, painting, and poetry. However, some old customs like foot-binding for women have been abandoned. New traditions have also emerged, like the growing popularity of Western holidays like Christmas.Speaking of the West, China used to be quite isolated from the rest of the world. Foreign influences were limited, and not many Chinese people traveled abroad. But in recent decades, China has opened up and become a major player on the global stage. We now have connections with countries all over the world through trade, business, and cultural exchange. More Chinese students are studying abroad, and more foreigners are visiting or living in China. While we cherish our long history and traditions, we are also embracing the future. China is a modern, powerful nation that is making its mark on the world. I feel so lucky to be growing up in these exciting times. Who knows what other incredible changes lie ahead for my country? I can't wait to see!。
