“短信一族”几乎就是学英语的一代,因此,只要对方学过英语,我们就可以用英文发手机短信。

这样,我们便把英文写作的频率提升到前所未有的高度。

假设你一个月发300条短信,有250条是英文的(剩下50条发给父母长辈等不会英文者),你的英文写作能力会得到怎样的提升?闻得有位兄台在回家的列车上给朋友发短信解闷就发了200余条,请问他要是全部用英文发,他的英文写作能力会得到怎样的提升?
首先要明确你手机的英文输入法。

现在手机上的英文输入法大体有两种。

一种是逐个字母输入的原始方法,每个字母需要摁若干次数字键,例如输入字母“i”要摁“4”键3次,依次显示“g”、“h”、“i”。

如果需要连续输入同一数字键所代表的几个字母,则每次还得等一秒钟让手机确认,例如输入“moon”就够你烦的了。

第二种是智能输入法,也是大多数手机具备的英文输入法,它以单词为单位,只需要按顺序摁各个字母所在的数字键,手机自动把各种可能组成单词的字母组合让你遴选,同样是“moon”只要连续摁4次“6”键(不用间歇),屏幕出来“noon”,再摁一下遴选键,“moon”就出来了。

正是手机的智能输入法能使你的单词拼写得到质的提升!在智能输入法状态下,你几乎不会拼错单词,因为:如果你摁入的字母序列与手机内置词库的正确单词拼写顺序不一致的话,手机会给你提示,或者根本就没有合适的单词供你选择。

因此,我们必须掌握正确的拼写,相应地,需要随时随地查词典——电子词典就是最好的搭档。

我就是被智能输入法“强迫”练熟了不少容易混淆的拼写。

例如“大使”和“大使馆”读音、意义类似,我曾经想当然以为拼写就是最后几个字母后缀有点差别,某次我要表达“大使馆”时摁入“ambassy”,手机提示不能识别,查电子词典才发现“大使”是“ambassador”,“大使馆”却是“embassy”!请你拿出手机试一遍,就能感受到“电子老师”是多么的严格要求了(电脑软件例如Word 有智能改错,但手机上好像还没有)。

在“手机+电子词典”的反复写作训练下,我慢慢练熟了诸如“temperature”、“restaurant”、“guarantee”、“fortunate”、“pronunciation”、“cockcroach”等从前经常出错的拼写。

建议仅在单词拼写不明确的情况下查电子词典,而不要滥用电子词典的汉英词典功能瞎找一个单词来表达你的意思,以免写成“中国式英语”。

良好的写作表达只能来源于我们接触到的原著,也就是说,洋人用过的说法我们才能用,不懂的表达千万别自己编造。

某个意思可能有多种表达,我们要是不会最佳表达,不妨用罗嗦一点但熟悉而正确的表达,反正语言是灵活的,总可以让收信人明白的。

当然,我们须在原著中多多汲取地道准确的表达,日后的短信就写得越来越动人了。

英文短信还有个好处:言简意赅。

这也是被迫练出来的,因为每条短信字数有限制,超出了就得多扣电话费。

在经济上受到约束,比作文课上老师强调100遍“简洁”还管用。

通过发英文短信,你会逐渐懂得到怎样在短短一百几十个字符中表达最多的内容,例如本来要写两句话,如果把第二句改成从句能省几个格,改成分词修饰谓语动词省得更多……长此以往,你的英文行文就会越来越简明扼要,表达技巧也越来越一针见血。

这,已经不再是单词拼写的基础层次,而是相当高级的写作技术了。
