Tahosa High Adventure Base.B“You’ll be blind by the time you’re twenty-five,” a doctor at Children’s Hospital predicted. “Your blood sugars are much too high.” It consumed me. No matter where I was or what I was doing, it was overhead like a dark cloud, waiting for just the right opportunity to break open and destroy my world.I liked painting. Losing myself in painting filled me with peace. Painting provided me with the only place where I could escape from those threatening words. When I was twenty-one, my right eye went blind. Precisely three months after my twenty-fifth birthday, I had a massive hemorrhage (大出血) in my left eye because of an accident. For the next twenty years, vision came and went. I went through many eye operations in an attempt to keep my vision. But after one final operation, I lost the battle and all remaining vision. And I buried all dreams of painting.Desperate, I enrolled in (注册) a sixteen-week program for the blind and visually impaired (损伤的). I learned personal adjustment and the use of a computer with adaptive software. A whole new world opened up to me through this program.“Jaws and Window-Eyes are leading software for the blind,” my instructor told me. “You can use the Internet, e-mail and Microsoft with all its tools and features.” It’s amazing! Hope went up for the first time in ye ars. “By learning how to use hot keys to control the mouse, you can use Microsoft Access, Excel and Powerpoint,” my instructor added. For the next several years, I learned that when one door closes, another door opens. There are plenty of choices available for the blind and visually impaired through the gift of technology. Not only do I have a speaking computer, but I have a speaking watch, alarm clock and calculator.4. What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 1 refer to?A. The right opportunity.B. What does the author intend to tell us?A. No pain, no gain.B. Every man has his price.C. Nothing is impossible to a willing heart.D. Be optimistic in the face of life’s difficulties.CThese days, I walk down the steps leading toward the south end of the All England Club in Wimbledon, and still look for the Crow’s Nest, a small green observation tower with an outer ladder that I used to climb on for a wide view of the grounds, but which has since been knocked down. The Crow’s Nest was a particularly useful point, because it allowed a tennis writer to keeptrackof the action on as many as 10 outside courts at a time. At days end, reporters from different nations would share notes on what they had observed all over the grounds.Twenty-seven years later, the press room has touch screens that allow us to watch live videos from any court, and even go back to watch key moments in key matches long after they have finished. You could cover Wimbledon without leaving your seat. But that is a bit like spending all your time ordering room service and looking up fun facts on Wikipedia.More than at any other tennis tournament, there is also an appetite for stories that deal with the setting, the history and the traditions. If they change the price of the fish tacos (鱼肉卷饼) at the United States Open, it’s not a story. If they change the price of the strawberries and cream, the signature treat at Wimbledon. It’s time to email your editor using capital letters. The new retractable (可伸缩的) roof was put in place in 2009. Until then, you always had to have a rainy-day story in your notebook because there were no guarantees any matches would be played. Now tennis is a sure thing on Centre Court, which has made tennis reporters a bit less creative. But at least it guarantees us daily access to the most atmospheric place in the sport. So much has changed, but Centre Court remains true to its original spirit: more a theater than a stadium. Catching that feeling is part of covering Wimbledon, too.8. What did the author do on the Crow’s Nest in the past?A. He made friends with reporters.B. He reported on tennis matches.C. He appreciated the beautiful scenery.D. He exchanged experiences with tennis players.9. What does the author think of the new way of covering Wimbledon?A. It lacks fun.B. It is expensiveC. It is not convenient.D. It is not quick enough10. Why does the author mention strawberries and cream?A. To compare popular foods.B. To introduce the typical treat at Wimbledon.C. To describe people’s craze for traditional dishes.D. To show the traditions of Wimbledon are an attraction.11. What difference does the new roof make?A. Audiences have easier access to a tennis court.B. There’s less fun in watching Wimbledon indoors.C. Reporters are struggling to find original material.D. rainy-day stories about Wimbledon have become history.DOn January 13, 2016, France became the first country in the world to pass a law requiring supermarkets to donate food that is approaching its expiration date (保质期) instead of throwing it away. The regulation that applies to supermarkets over 4,000 square feet requires stores to sign official donation agreements with local food banks. The law also makes it illegal for stores to pour water over nearly-expired food, or store it inside locked warehouses until it is picked up by the garbage trucks. These measures are often undertaken by supermarkets to prevent the hungry from searching for food through the dustbins.Though that may appear cruel, the stores claim they do it to avoid potential food poisoning that could occur if the product is on its way past its expiry. Those who do not obey the new law face the risk of heavy fines. Also, excess goods like yogurt or milk that are likely to go bad quickly are now allowed to be donated directly to the food banks. Though this has always been possible, the current process is long and complex, making it difficult for producers to give away the food in a timely manner.France’s food banks are of course thrilled about the possibility of receiving extra food. Jacques Bailet, who heads a network of French food banks called the Banques Alimentaires, says that of the 110,000 tons of goods received annually, only 36,000 tons comes from supermarkets. Bailet estimates (估计) that just a 15% increase in supermarket donations would translate to over 10 million additional meals to feed the hungry each year.Though this is a great first step, Arash Dermabarsh, the activist responsible for the grassroots movement that led to the ban, is not done. He now wants to extend the law to other places like restaurants and also try to convince other countries in the European Union to pass similar regulations. These steps are necessary because of the over 9 million tons of food wasted in France; an astonishing 67% is thrown away by consumers, with supermarkets and restaurantsmaking up the rest.12. What should stores do with nearly-expired food?A. Throw it away.B. Send it to the hungry.C. Store it in refrigerators.D. Give it away to food banks.13. What does the underlined word “excess” in Paragraph 4 probably mean?A. Extra.B. Cheap.C. Seasonal.D. Returned.14. What might Bailet agree with about the French food banks?A. They have a lot of expired food.B. They will get much benefit from the law.C. Their food is enough for the people in need.D. Their food mainly comes from supermarkets.15. What does Dermabarsh plan to do?A. Build more food banks in France.B. Make the law take effect in more places.C. Organize a campaign to promote this law.D. Raise consumers awareness of waste reduction. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

What can be the best title for the text?A.A Lovely GirlB. But small towns across the country have their own traditions.Middleburg, a small town in the state of Virginia ,is known for its horses .For more than 50 years, Middleburg has organized a yearly Christmas parade(游行).Men and women ride horses through the woods and fields. They follow hunting dogs as they search for a wild fox .But first, these hunters ride in the yearly parade, wearing their bright red hunting clothes and hats.John Hale, a citizen of Middleburg says many city people visit his town. “We have a lot of people from an urban area that come to visit ,but it incorporates a lot of the old traditions.” The night-time hay ride is one such tradition. Small groups gather under the moonlight on an open wagon filled with hay. The passengers sing as farm horses pull the wagon slowly across the fields. There are some newer traditions, too. Trey Matheu works at the nearby Salamander Resort. He says a visit to Middleburg is a chance to slow down for a day. He says Middleburg can be a calming, peaceful place without tension.“Middleburg is an opportunity to take a step back, to take a deep breath, and understand that even though life is moving on at a very fast pace, there’s really an opportunity where you’re allowed to step off for a little bit.”Parade organizers say more than 13,000 people attend even in below-freezing weather. But if you ask, you will hear many different reasons why people come to watch the parade:“I come here because I’m from a small town. I like how everybody comes together.”“I live right down that street; right there. And that’s my dog.”Middleburg looks its best at Christmas time. That may be why so many people return each year.25. Which of the following can be the best title for the text?A. Middleburg Christmas paradeB.A small town known for horsesC. Christmas traditions in MiddleburgD. Newer traditions at Christmastime26.At Christmas, people in Middleburg usually .A. visit friends and familiesB. feed farm horses with hayC. hunt for dogs in the woodsD. ride in the yearly parade27. What do we know about the small town Middleburg?A. It makes a large profit from tourism.B. It attracts many people eachyear.C. It is a good place for family gatherings.D. It doesn’t respect Christmas traditions.CAs the thrills of the London 2012 Olympic Games fade, the focus now is on the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil. Over the next two years it hosted the FIFA Confederation Cup in June 2013 and hosted the FIFA World Cup in 2014.Brazil has taken steps to increase the economic profits by safeguarding the interests of broadcasters and funders. In 2009,the Brazil passed the Brazilian Olympic Act and the so-called World Cup Law in 2012,which are designed to fight ambush(隐性)marketing and digital piracy(盗版),and regulate advertising in and around official sporting sites. The Brazilian World Cup Law goes much further in protecting the interests of right owners than Brazil’s pre-existing legislation(立法)in this area, the so-called Pele Law. For example, the World Cup Law bans anyone but the official broadcaster from using images of events. However, it does permit use for non-commercial purposes. It also requires that FIFA or its local broadcaster provide highlights up to two hours after each match. Other items allow protection of trademarks associated with the event and ban unauthorized association with the event’s marks. The Pele Law permits, as an information right, both access to sporting sites and the use of images for journalistic purposes. It is, however, unlikely that such an understanding will be gained in relation to the World Cup Law which governs access to and use of images specifically in relation to the FIFA World Cup 2014.Although the Brazilian Olympic Act regulates the IP(知识产权)relating to the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, it remains silent on broadcasting rights.Whatever the benefits, it seems clear that IP rights in general, and broadcasting rights in particular, will continue to play a key role in bringing in funds. But there are three Nobel prize-winning scientists who actually chose to experiment on themselves—all in the name of science, reported The Telegraph.1.Werner Forssmann (Nobel prize winner in 1956)Forssmann was a German scientist. He studied how to put a pipe inside the heart to measure the pressure inside and decide whether a patient needs surgery.Experiments had been done on horses before, so he wanted to try with human patients. But it was not permitted because the experiment was considered too dangerous. Not giving up, Forssmann decided to experiment on himself. He anaesthetized (麻醉) his own arm and made a cut, putting the pipe 30 centimeters into his vein (静脉).He then climbed two floors to the X-ray room before pushing the pipe all the way into his heart.2.Barry Marshall (Nobel prize winner in 2005)Most doctors in the mid-20th century believed that gastritis was down to stress, spicy food or an unusually large amount of stomach acid. But in 1979 an Australian scientist named Robin Warren found that the disease might be related to a bacteria (细菌) called Helicobacter pylori. So he teamed up with his colleague, Barry Marshall, to continue the study. When their request to experiment on patients was denied, Marshall bravely drank some of the bacteria. Five days later, he lost his appetite and soon was vomiting each morning—he indeed had gastritis.3.Ralph Steinman (Nobel prize winner in 2011)This Canadian scientist discovered a new type of immune system cell(免疫细胞) called the dendritic cell. He believed that it had the ability to fight against cancer.Steinman knew he couldn’t yet use his method to treat patients. So in 2007,when doctors told him that he had cancer and that it was unlikely for him to live longer than a year, he saw an opportunity. With the help of his colleagues, he gave himself three different vaccines(疫苗) based on his research and a total of eight experimental therapies (疗法).Even though Steinman eventually died from his cancer, he lived four and a half years, much longer than doctors had said he would.33.The passage is mainly about .A. some dangerous experiments that Nobel prize winners did on themselvesB. difficulties that scientists went through in order to make important discoveriesC. the reasons why some scientists chose to experiment on themselvesD .three Nobel prize winners who did experiments on themselves34. Which of the following is TRUE according to the article?A. Forssmann’s experiment ended in failure.B. Forssmann managed to do his experiment on different kinds of animals.C. Barry Marshall succeeded by drinking some Helicobacter pylori.D. Barry Marshall’s experiment on himself confirmed that most doctors’ belief about gastritis was correct.35.From the text, we can conclude that Ralph Steinman .A. discovered a new type of cancer cell called the dendritic cellB. tried different therapies containing the dendritic cell on himselfC. knew that he himself would have cancer and die from itD. believed that he was better than doctors at treating cancer第二节(共5小题;每小题3分,满分15分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。

AIt’s no secret that your personal characteristics directly affect how you interact with the world, but you might be surprised at just how deep it goes. Experts think that your personality can even affect how you exercise and influence what sports are suitable for you.Highly SensitiveHighly sensitive people may be more uncomfortable with group exercise classes or team sports where they feel their every move is being observed. Additionally, they may feel more upset over an ineffective or poor workout, says researcher Elaine Aron. For such people, individual or non-competitive activities like biking, running and hiking are ideal. Type A PersonalityType A individuals often have an “all or nothing approach” to exercise. This personality type is known for sticking closely to their plan, not to mention being super competitive. However, this can cause them to stick too closely to a fitness routine, which means they might try to push past an injury. To get better exercise results, Type A people need to be aware that following an exercise plan too strictly may limit their progress. They should be more flexible and listen to their body, especially when they are in pain.Type B PersonalityThis laid-back group may get too lazy about their exercise plan, which prevents them from seeing results. They are often less willing to devote enough time and energy to their fitness goals, especially if exercise is something that makes them anxiousType B individuals succeed in creative and co-operative environments, so team sports and group gym classes may be perfect.Remember, there are plenty of ways you can adapt a fitness plan to suit your needs, regardless of your characteristics. Just keep in mind what you like.21. Why might highly sensitive people be unwilling to take part in group sports?A. They will feel like they are being evaluated.B. They don't like socialising with other people.C. They don't consider themselves to be athletic.D. They fear they'll be let down by their teammates.22. Type A personalities can be best described as______.A. committed B flexible C independent D. sensitive23. What is the purpose of the text?A. To help people understand what personality type they areB. To explain how personal characteristics affect exercise habitsC. To identify the dangers of doing the wrong type of exerciseD. To describe different types of workouts that are available todayBTeenager Red Gerard pulled off (赢得)a shock win in the men's slopestyle snowboarding (自由式单板滑雪) to get the first gold medal for Team USA at the Winter Olympics. At long last the USA has not had to wait until the second day of an Olympic Summer or Winter to win its first gold medal since 1998. The 17-year-old crashed on both of his first two runs in high winds , but achieved an unbelievable final effort that no one could match to become the youngest American man to win an Olympic winter gold medal since 1928.Sitting in 11th place after two runs, Gerard impressed the judges deeply with his fall through a series of rails and huge jumps to beat Canadian riders Max Parrot (2nd place after two runs) and Mark McMorris (lst place after two runs) to the silver and bronze (铜牌) respectively."I was surprised to make it even to the finals of the Olympics and to get first is above me, I don't even know what's going on to be honest," Gerard told the British reporter Oliver Jeffers. "I cannot believe what has just happened—it is insane. " Parrot put down a near-perfect run as the last rider to go down, but it wasn't good enough to knock Gerard off the top spot. McMorris, who had been in the lead after two rounds, took his second straight Olympic slopestyle bronze less than a year after crashing into a tree, which almost killed him.Gerard was a child prodigy(奇才), who could walk at nine months. He started snowboarding at the ageof two and managed to do a standing backflip by the time he was six years old. He joined the American national team just four years ago. His Olympic journey is set to continue in the men's big air competition, which will be making its debut in an Olympic Games on Feb 21.24. What does Red Gerard think of his win in the men's slopestyle snowboarding?A. It is all worth it.B. It is not a shock.C. It is beyond all question.D. It is beyond expectation.25. Who won the second place in the men's slopestyle snowboarding?A. Red Gerard.B. Max Parrot.C. Oliver Jeffers.D. Mark McMorris.26. What can be inferred from the text?A. Gerard is the youngest gold-medal winner at the Winter Olympics.B. Gerard got the highest mark in the final round.C. McMorris crashed into a tree in his last effort.D. Parrot performed perfectly in all his runs.27. Which of the following can be the best title of the text?A. A great winner in American historyB. An accident at the Winter OlympicsC. Teenager Red Gerard won the first gold medalD. Snowboarding winners at the Winter OlympicsCOn the occasional clear-frost autumn night, I was hiking through the dark forest with my GMO wolf. Yes, my best friend is a genetically modified organis(转基因生物); deliberate selection has produced the blunt-toothed, small-pawed wonder that walks by my side. Our world is changing rapidly. In the last five decades, global population has fully doubled, with 3.7 billion hungry mouths added to our planet. During this same time span, the amount of land suitable for agriculture has increased by only 5%. Miraculously, this did not result in the great global famine (饥荒)one might have predicted. How do scientists modify(改进) a plant so that it makes more food than its parents did? We could treat each harvest like a litter(一窝) of wolf pups and select only plants bearing the fattest and richest seeds for the next season. This was the method our ancestors used to engineer rice, corn andwheat from the wild grasses they encountered.During my childhood, advances in genetic technologies allowed scientists to identify and clone the genes responsible for controlling stem growth, leading to shorter, stronger stalks(茎) that could bear more seeds—the high-yield crops that feed us today. The 21st century has brought with it a marvelous new set of high-tech tools with which to further quicken the process of artificial selection. Plant geneticists can now directly edit out or edit in sections of DNA using molecular scissors. We can minimize a plant's weaknesses while adding to its strengths, and we don't have to wait for seasons to pass to test the result. It is the transformative potential of these techniques to quickly supply the next-generation crops required for upcoming climate change that has led me to believe in the safety and function of GMO plants in agricultural products. We need more GMO research to feed the world that we are creating.I love the quiet forest that stands between my lab and my home. But I know that as a scientist, I am responsible first to humanity. We must feed, shelter and nurture one another as our first priority, and to do so, we must take advantage of our best technologies, which have always included some type of genetic modification. We must continue as before, nourishing the future as we feed ourselves, and each year plant only the very best of what we have collectively engineered. I keep the faith of my ancestors each night when I walk through the forest to my lab, and my GMO wolf does the same when she guards my way home.28. Why does the author mention the wolf in the 1st paragraph?A. To advise people to keep wolves as petsB. To persuade readers to welcome the new technologyC. To change people's attitude towards wolvesD. To introduce a technology used to humans' advantage29. Which of the following statements is NOT TRUE according to the passage?A.GMO technology will help weatherproof future crops.B. With GMO technology, famine has been wiped out.C. Artificial selections make high-yield plants possible.D. The author believes technology should contribute to future generations.30. What can be learned about modifying a plant?A. It takes scientists seasons to know whether their selection is correct.B. One way for ancestors to change a plant was to clone some genes.C. Modern techniques help speed up the artificial selection by altering(改变) DNA.D. The general public show strong faith in GMO plants.31. Which of the following might be the best title of the passage?A.GMO Technology—Turning Wolves into the Best PetsB. Engineered Food—Feeding Future GenerationsC. Engineered Food—To Be or Not To BeD.GMO Technology—A Driving Force in World PeaceDKepler 22b, a planet more like Earth than any yet discovered, has been identified as a potential future home for mankind.Kepler 22b contains both land and water and has temperatures which average around 22℃. It also contains the right atmosphere to potentially support life.It is, however, 600 light years from Earth. The planet, where a year lasts 290 days, was first spotted two years ago. However, NASA scientists using the agency’s Kepler space telescope have now concluded that it offers the best hope yet for future human habitation outside the Solar System. One of the key standards for a planet to be habitable is that it remains roughly the right distance from its main star to be neither too cold nor too hot. This range of ideal temperatures is known to scientists as the “Goldilocks” zone, as the temperature is “just right” for life.Bill Borucki, Kepler principal investigator at NASA Ames Research Centre, said: “We have now got good planet confirmation with Kepler 22b. We are certain that it is in the habitable zone and if it has a surface it ought to have a nice temperature.”There are now three planets outside the system, known as exoplanets, which experts believe could potentially be colonised (建殖民地) by future generations. In May, French astronomers identified Gliese 581d, which is far closer at around 20 light years away. It is about six times the mass (质量) of Earth and is one of a family of at least six planets. In August, a team from Switzerland reported that another planet called HD 85512b and 36 light years away seemed to be habitable. The planet is in the constellation(星座) of Vela, measuring aroun d 3.6 times the Earth’s mass.According to an online catalogue that indexes bodies outside our solar system, a total of 47 exoplanets and exomoons are potential habitable candidates but not enough research has been done to be sure.32. Whether a planet is suitable for mankind to live on doesn’t depend on ________.A. whether it is close enough to EarthB. whether there are proper temperaturesC. whether there is atmosphere around itD. whether there is land and water on it33. In what way is Kepler 22b like Earth?A. Its mass.B. Its size.C. Its shape.D. Its conditions.34. It can be learnt from the passage that ________.A. Kepler 22b is closer to Earth than Gliese 581dB. Kepler 22b’s mass is greater than HD 85512b’sC. Kepler 22b’s year lasts longer than the earth’sD. Kepler 22b is most likely to be habitable of all35. We can infer from the passage that ________.A. the farther a planet is away from the earth, the more likely it is to be habitableB. the longer a year of a planet lasts, the farther it is away from the Solar SystemC. the more potential habitable exoplanets are found, the more research we should doD. the smaller mass a planet has than the earth, the less possibly there is water on it第二节(共5小题;每小题3分,满分15分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

After graduation I was unsure of what to do with my degree. I had majored in Illustration (插图) and loved it, but didn't really feel interested in doing illustrations for any panies. This left me with few options other than freelance (自由职业的)jobs and nannying (保姆工作).I spent two years working as a nanny doing freelance illustration on the side. It just wasn't quite enough to pay rent, but I loved it, so I worked well over 50 hours a week, trying to keep up with both.Just under a year ago I went to a friend's wedding. I couldn't think of a gift for them and really didn't have a lot of money to spare so I used my talents to create a portrait for them. It wasn't much, and I hoped it would be a good gift. When I handed the portrait to them and they unwrapped it, the looks on their faces were something I did not expect. There were joyful tears in their eyes as they cried, “That's us! This is so beautiful!”It's funny because when I was in art school portraits were always my least favourite assignment. I hated drawing people and was always so much more interested in drawing little furry creatures. Once I saw the looks on my friends' faces after giving them their portrait it was all over. I suddenly loved portraits and wanted to do more.I now take portraits to every wedding I go to and have given them as gifts to the families I nannied for. Even thoughCanada is pretty on the outside, it has an ugly truth hidden behind its beauty. Canadahas many environmental problems that can greatly affect the people and the wildlifeof the region.Canada has many natural resources. But if not treated properly, they'll bedestroyed or used up. This is happening to the Great Lakes. Shared by Canada andthe US, the Great lakes are used for fishing and producing electricity. In the 1970s,the Great Lakes were used as a waste dumping (倾倒)place for factories. To puta stop to the illegal dumping, the two countries both signed the Great Lakes WaterQuality Agreement, which makes sure no animals or people are harmed by the polluted and dangerous water and also reduces the amount of human waste that is dumped in that area.Almost 2 million Canadian citizens make their living by mining. However , mining can destroy an area’s environment. The rock and soil from mining are just dumped in any place that is available. This can lead to an increase in sulfur dioxide (二氧化硫), causing acid rain and killing plants and animals.Another natural resource is the wood which is used for many different types of paper. But the resource is being overused. The country is losing the benefits of the forest, such as oxygen, and animals are losing their foods or homes. Clear-cutting (清场伐木)has left many places barren. The loss of animal habitat is also very serious. All countries should learn from Canada's mistakes and take some measures to help improve the environment.24. What's the ugly truth in Canada?A. It has many environmental problems.B. Nearly all resources are being used up.C. Waste can be seen everywhereD. Many plants and animals are dying out.25. To prevent animals from being killed.26. What does the underlined word “barren” in paragraph 4 most probably mean?A. Full of water.B. Lacking warmth.C. Without any dirt.D. No trees on Land27. What's the author’s purpose of writing this text?A. To show what has happened to the Great Lakes.B. To tell us some of natural resources of Canada,C. To call on people to protect the environment.D. To tell us Canada is more beautiful than we thoughtCMr. Lee speaks six languages and his company, Flitto now has more than five million users around the world, and enjoys revenues(收益)of about $2.1 million a year.Unlike most professional translation companies, it doesn't directly employ translators. Instead, Flitto invites members of the public who knows more than one language to offer their services viaits website and mobile phone app. Today it has one million translators in 170 countries, who offer translations between 17 different languages.Due to his father's job with an international company, Mr. Lee spent most of his childhood living overseas. he was born in Kuwait, where he spent his first four years, before the family then moved to the UK. After three years in the UK, the familyrelocated again, this time to the US, before moving to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia 24 months later. Educated in international schools, he was quick to pick up an English, French and Arabic, the first three languages. Mr. Lee added to his native Korean. After seven years in Saudi Arabia, Mr. Lee’s family moved back to South Korea where he finished high school, and then went to the country’s famous Korea university. It was at college that friends of his started to ask him to help them translate their homework into English, which was required as part of their courses. “So friends would say to me, ‘Simon, if you translate this homework into English, I'm going to buy you dinner,’” he says.“And more and more friends were asking me to do that, so I didn't have enough time. ”Realizing the business potential of translation services, Mr. Lee started getting other multilingual friends to help out, and thus his idea for setting upa firm was born.28. Determined and intelligent.C. Persistent and optimistic.D. Helpful and creative.DWith more and more people having a longer life in the world, people are eager to know what to do and what not to do.It is well known that women live longer on average than men—and some researchers claim this is because they are better at visiting their doctor and voicing any concerns about their health, rather than sticking their heads in the sand. Not smoking, not being overweight and taking sufficient exercise keep your heart and blood vessels healthy for longer— and all that is good for your brain, too.One popular theory about aging concerns the damage caused to the tissues in our bodies, by “free radicals(自由基)”. Our immune system makes these free radicals ineffective using antioxidant (抗氧化剂) nutrients such as vitamins A and C, and the theory is that a diet high in such “antioxidant” will help you hold back the years. In fact, though there is no doubt among scientists that free radicals harmthe body, there is no hard proof that aging is caused simply by a lack of sufficient antioxidant in our bodies or our food..Another theory growing in popularity holds that we can stay alive longer by eating less, for an experiment concluded mice live longer when fed 30 percent fewer calories. Though the beneficial effect has since been found in other species, including fruit flies, what we really want to know is how this applies to humans. The answer may be found in long- term experiments in the U.S. using rhesus monkeys, which are closely related to us in evolutionary terms. However, though the aging process is slower in those animals, monkeys on the calorie restriction group do not appear to live longer.32. Which of the following would the author agree with?A. Say your worries aloud if you have any.B. Go on a diet.C. Take in sufficient antioxidant.D. The more physical exercise the better33. What do we know about free radicals?A. They can produce vitamin A and C.B. They have a negative effect on humans.C. They account for a lack of antioxidants.D. They help humans hold back the years.34. It can be concluded from the last paragraph that________A. fruit flies are closest to human in genes.B. the author is not a little in favor of eating less.C. the less rhesus monkey eats, the longer it will liveD. calorie restriction doesn't necessarily work out well.35. What does this passage mainly talk about?A. Facts about losing weight.B. Ways to keep healthy.C. How to have a longer life.D. How to live happily第二节七选五There is no such thing as a “bad memory”, and everyone can improve their memory, as long as you're not suffering from memory loss as a medical condition. 36 Stop thinking that you have a “bad memory”. Convince yourself that you do have a good memory that will improve. Too many people get stuck here and convince themselves their memory is bad, that they are just not good with names and that numbers just slip out of their minds,= for some reason. 37Use association to remember facts. 38 For example, if you have a hard time remembering that JFK was the president involved in the Bay of Pigs Invasion, just picture the handsome president swimming in an ocean surrounded by happy, oinking pigs.Involve multiple senses. You can stimulate (刺激) more parts of your brain by using as many senses as possible when memorizing information. 39 For example, the process of writing information by hand stimulates your brain and makes it easier to remember the information later.40 By developing new mental skills ﹂ especially complex ones such as learninga new language or learning to play a new musical instrument—and challenging your brain with puzzles and games, you can keep your brain active and improve its physiological function.A. Erase those thoughts and promise to improve your memory.B. If you want to improve your memory, there are a number of things you can do.C. Give yourself some time to form a memory.D. Exercise your brain as often as possible.E. When a larger part of your brain is active, your ability to arouse your memory will increase.F. This concrete image in your mind will help you link the president with this event.G. You can create an image in your mind to help you remember a word or in image.第三部分英语知识运用(共两节,满分45)第一节完形填空 (共 20 小题;每小题 1.5 分,满分 30 分)This past October, I took an early morning hike in a Valley.
