The Dragon Boat Festival has a history of over 2,000 years. There are many tales about their origin.

The most popular one is that the festival is celebrated in honor of Qu Yuan. Qu Yuan was concerning about his country but was not understanding by the rulers. Feeling desperately, he jumped into the Miluo River on the 5th day of the 5th lunar month, 278 BC. Before he died, the fishermen sailed their boats to look up for his body. People throw zongzi into the water, hoping keep possible fish from attacking his body. That's because people later celebrate the festival through such activity as dragon boat racing and eating zongzi on the special day.
