The most beautiful in the locality is elected as the May queen. She is usually crowned with a garland of flowers and often driven in procession through the street.

But if you’ve a need for love I’ll give you all I own It might help you down the road Till you’ve found your own.
So long as men can breathe, or eyes can see, So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.
