了不起的盖茨比英文书评[修改版]

第一篇:了不起的盖茨比英文书评The whole story of The Great Gatsby is set on Long Island in New York City from spring to autumn in 1922. With the narration of Nick Carraway, the reader is taken into the extravagant and glittering life of American upper class and dizzying, narcissistic wealth, (Guy Reynolds, 1993: VI) to encounter some typical person of that age. Jay Gatsby, the hero of this novel, represents those dream-pursuing people only finds that it is all illusion. The tragedy of Gatsby is also the tragedy of Fitzgerald as well as American society. With the realistic and even sardonic description, the novel represents us the theme of the disillusion of American Dream.Just as the Great Depression in 1930s ended the prosperous and flashy “Roaring Twenties”, the failure of Gatsby at last represents us that the so-called American Dream is a pseudo image. Although Gatsby lived a seemingly luxurious life, he neverGatsby is a victim of his era and society. The American Dream encourages people from generation to generation to pursue physical wealth and keep spiritual purity at the same time. They consider money as a simple method and tool in one‟s way to success. But the valuable things you lost during your money-accumulation progress can never be regained no matter how wealthy you are afterwards. The main contradiction of the American Dream is the difference between reality and ideality. People who want to pursue the dream must face the cruelty and ruthlessness of the society. Gatsby fails, so do most of other pursuers.Gatsby‟s whole life is originate in dream and ruined by dream, it is his American Dream that makes him succeed and destroyed, died pathetically in the end. This is the tragedy of Gatsby and tragedy of the American society.第二篇:了不起的盖茨比英文书评The Great GatsbyReading experience:I start to read the book about 3 weeks ago ,At first, I searched some information about the author from the Internet, then glanced the basic content of novel, When I read the several chapters ahead of the novel, I feel it was so boring , the complex relationship would kill me. When I nearly finished the novel, everything was suddenly enlightened.Information about this novel:The novel is told us the story of Gatsby by Nick’s tone. Nick came to New York from his hometown the America Middle West, and he rent a small house nearby Gatsby’s luxurious mansion where hold a grand banquet every night. The story began with the meet between Nick and Gatsby. And Nick had an exploratory interest to Gatsby and understood that there was a lost love in Gatsby’s deep heart. Gatsby and Daisy loved each other when Gatsbywas young, but because of Gatsby’s poor family they were broken up. Then G. joined the First World War. While Daisy was married to Tom who was a rich dandy, but her marriage was not happy because Tom had a mistress. Therefore, the material couldn’t satisfy her spiritual empty.Gatsby was very painful and he believed that Daisy betrayed the pure heart for the money, so he resolved to be a man of wealth and a few years later he managed it. What’s more, in the opposite direction of Daisy’s house Gatsby built a mansion. In order to attract Daisy and aroused the lost love, Gatsby spent money like water.Nick was moved by Gatsby’s passion of love, so he visited to his young female cousin Daisy and told her Gatsby’s mind. Then Gatsby made date with Daisy, often. Finally, Gatsby found Daisy’s vanity, vulgar and selfish. Gatsby’s pink dream finally broke up, but he still insisted it, still retained any illusion about Daisy, and even led to his tragedies. One day Daisy was in a drunken driving Gatsby’s car ran over and caused an accident that killed Tom’s mistress, and she planned a plot with Tom to put the crime to Gatsby. It led to the mistress’husband shot Gatsby. Gatsby died, only his father and Nick attended the funeral.Nick witnessed the virtual mood of human reality. At the end, Nick backed to his hometown with a tragedy mood.Introduction of the author:The Great Gatsby is written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, who was born in1896 and died in Hollywood in 1940, and grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota. He is the most important representative of the “Jazz Age”.He published the novel Tender is the Night, Paradise, the Last Tycoon and so on; and published over 160 short novels, for instance, Benjamin’s Fantasy Trip, Ice Palace, Winter Dream and so on. The twentieth century, the United States academic community selected 100 the best novels in the river of English literature. The Great Gatsby and Tender is the Night are the list. And The Great Gatsby is second. He first published The Great Gatsby on April 10, 1925, a story set in Island’s North Shore and New York City during the summer of 1922.Impression on the novel:After reading the novel, I was deeply shocked by Gatsby’s persistence, dream, and his miserable ending, and impressed more about the “Jazz Age”.In American history, maybe“it was the best of times, it was the worst of times, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way”.The Gates ratio is the 20's models American youth,he was young and full of passion to realize all his dreams ,which could have been a perfect character in any times. However, he was poor, and this, which made him become a tragic character, also was the focus in that age-“Jazz Age”. Gates compares in order to pursue the black eyebrow coloring alizarin red to exhaust own sentiment and the ability and wisdom, finally ruined own life.“There was a faint, barely perceptible movement of the water as the fresh flow from one end urged its way toward the drain at the other .With little ripples that was hardly the shadows ofwaves ,the laden mattress moved irregularly down the pool.”A hopeless ending indicates that the most beautiful dream in that age was eventuallydestroyed by the reality, the social. We can clearly know that Daisy did not choose Gatsby although he had become much more affluent than Tom ,but choose her previous life-living with Tom,it may be a bad choise, but it was really the decision made by Daisy herself,a selfish, disingenuous and vain girl, the girl which Gastby always loved and was willing to pay everything he has for ,even she betrayed more than once, and this can be inferred when Gastby showed his love and she hesitated.Shutting the book,I am deep in thought. The author tries to describe the social, the so-called up class ,the so-called prosperous country, and certainly the shattered"the American dream".In my opinion, the author not only wants to attack the luxury and hypocrisy of the classes, but also to appeal to people to pursue true love, not the greed of money andhypocrisy, although this book has a desperate ending.第三篇:《了不起的盖茨比》英文读后感The disillusion of the American dream- The Great Gatsby book reviewThe Great Gatsby is the representative work of American writer Francis Scott Fitzgerald. It is a true reflection of 1920s. The book is a classical novel and has profound meaning of the essence of the American dream’s illusory. The writer showed the American social after the World War I in the book. It uncovers the money worship and hedonism in the Jazz Age and people’s selfishness and indifference in that time. What the novel describes is a tragic story about the disillusion of the American dream. The story happened after the World War I. A young business man named Nick Carraway rent a house in the Long Island. In the opposite house there lives his cousin Daisy Buchanan and her husband TomBuchanan. In the villa next lives Jay Gatsby. Gatsby holds big party every weekend in his villa but there is few people has seen his face. After a while Nick knows that when Gatsby was a soldier, he fell in love with Daisy. However, Daisy finally married with a rich man Tom Buchanan. When the war is ended, Gatsby began to do illegal business and become a millionaire in high society. In order to draw Daisy’s attention, he bought a big house in opposite to Daisy’s and often holds big party. Gatsby and Daisy meet again in the help of Nick. When this is known by Tom, he is burst into anger and they have a quarrel. With extremely nervous, Daisydrives the car and killed Tom’s mistress Myrtle accidentally. However, Tom suggests Myrtle’s husband Wilson that it is Gatsby who killed her wife. In extreme anger Wilson shoot Gatsby and suicide. In the end of the book, when Nick held a funeral for Gatsby, none of his old friends join. Nick is disappointed to the dark high society of New York so he leave the city and go back to his home in the American Midwest. The theme of the novel is to present the tragedy of the American dream’s disillusion by showing the story of Gatsby’s pursuing of dream. The so-called "American dream" means that in America everyone is equality of opportunity. People can realize their dream and achieve success just by themselves’struggle. The Americandream has always been an ideal that people are convinced of and pursue of. It is a kind of spiritual strength that promote America to developing and flourishing quickly. After the World War I, America has entered into anunprecedented era of prosperity and the American dream becoming a crazy worship to money. The wind of money worship prevailing. So the American dream has been deteriorated as the social develop. In this novel, the short life of Gatsby has go through the process of dream from start to burst. It symbolize the rise and burst of the American dream at the same time. One side of his American Dream is the dream of money. He realize this dream by illegal business which made him from a poor boy to a millionaire. However, the other side of his dream is thedream of love and it make him into a sad ending. In fact, his loving dream is another form of his money dream. At first when he fell in love with Daisy, he was attracted by her material life. He yearns for not so much Daisy’s love as Daisy’s high society life. Daisy is the combination of love and money which he’s longing for. She is the represent of a beautiful life. However, in real life, Daisy is far from what Gatsby imagine. She is a selfish, shallow and timid girl and all she wants is money and high society life. Finally Gatsby’s dream broken and it also symbolize the broken of the American dream. The essence of the tragedy of Gatsby is the tragedy of American idealism. But then again, although Gatsby’s effort did not pay off, his spirit of struggling to realize his dream and change the fate is moving and deserves our admiration and learning.第四篇:《了不起的盖茨比》英文读后感13级3班左安琪13061069 The Great Gatsby This is a story about Gatsby and his pursuit for the ‘American dreams’. During the World War One, the poor soldier Gatsby fell in love with an upper class girl named Daisy. But due to the wide gap between them, Daisy decided to marry Tom, a man of her class, instead of Gatsby. Broken-hearted Gatsby then held the conviction that money was of the greatest importance. He strongly believed in the‘American dreams’, which as we all know, advocates that one can achieve whatever he or she likes through continuous efforts. He strived for five years to become a millionaire and bought a villa near Daisy’s to attract her. He was too addicted to his fantasy to realize that Daisy was no longer the lovely girl she used to be. Eventually, he was killed because of her crime. I can’t help thinking of the theme Fitzgerald trying to convey. One thing may be the lonely void of people’s spiritual world. I am deeply impressed by chapter 3. There were two circumstances underlying it. The first is the lack of dreams. Some people, especially the people of the upper class, lived an aimless life. They wasted their time and money and took an indifferent attitude towards life. They chased for temporary ecstasy but lost their identity in eternity, namely Daisy and Tom. The second is the misleading of dreams. Some others like Gatsby, bravely pursued their dreams, yet going to a diverged way unconsciously. They might mix up the concept of a richer life and a happier life, viewing a higher social state and a peaceful fulfilled life as equality. Unfortunately, when they were busy chasing their dreams, everything changed with time. W they ignored what they had already had and lost the alert to the constant changes. As far as I am concerned, this story can serve as a reminder for us. To live a meaningful life, we should carefully choose some dreams to pursue. And in the process of fulfilling our dreams, we should always be concious about what we really desire. Anyhow, only by pursuing the proper dreams can we finally get to the deep springs of happiness.第五篇:《了不起的盖茨比》英文读后感We Die for Our Dreams——Comments on The Great Gatsby It was in a book of Murakami Haruki that I knew The Great Gatsby for the first time. He said that The Great Gatsby was a fantastic fiction so that I immediately developed a strong interest in it. At that time I wondered that what masterpiece would be worth such compliments from an excellent writer like Murakami Haruki. It must be more than a masterpiece.I read The Great Gatsby several years ago when I was in senior high school. Actually I was reading it for fun, the reason of which is obvious that under the great pressure of schoolwork I wouldn’t spare one more hour to receive another boring sermon from anybody. However, I found it wasn’t that attractive as I imaged so I quitted reading it after getting the superficial main idea of it. Gatsby was decisive and stupid; his dream lover Daisy was vulgar and ruthless; Daisy’s husband, accordingly, was a total jerk. There are neither admirable characters nor exciting plot at all. It was definitely a masterpiece but wasn’t my cup of tea. As time passed by, I realized that even the same person tended to develop an extremely different opinion towards the very book. Now I read it all over again and I found something deep and thought-provoking about it.Gatsby was described as an arrogant and tasteless businessman who was quite wealthy. He held parties almost every night to gather those so-called rich and genteel people. However, his real purpose was to meet his first lover—Daisy who had already married another rich and famed man. As he wished, he got to meet Daisy and found that she was still in love with him. But he didn’t realize that Daisy wasn’t what she used to be. She was no longer that innocent girl who waited for her lover, full of joy and wishes. In the end, Gatsby died for Daisy, the woman he had loved for lifetime. With little guilt or sorrow, Daisy quickly got rid of the whole mess and moved on smoothly as if nothing has happened, as if there has never been such a man named Gatsby who was in deep love with her and died for her. Gatsby’s love story was filledwith cheat and cupidity. The statement that Gatsby and Daisy were in love with each other was merely a misconception. Or rather, they used to be in love for a short period but in the end, time changed everything and true love turned out an absurd lie. From another perspective, neither of them is to blame in this tragedy named love. Daisy was a typical woman of that time, who had pretty face as well as empty brain, married a rich man, spent their life going for various parties and immoderate shopping, and turned a blind eye to their husbands’stuff. They had original pureness and rosy dreams which finally were eroded by the onrush of depraved age. And Gatsby was just a man who was still stuck in previously romance and tried his best to earn back his lover. He was oriented, diligent and sometimes kind-hearted. He had the courage to chase his dream while most people didn’t, though his attempt ended up nothing.Somebody said that be prepared for the nothing stuff and nowhere land, and keep walking with dreams. Maybe this makes sense to some extent. Even if we can predict the end in the very beginning, we will still orient ourselves in the thick fog and move ahead until death.。

differenc between narrative essay and stories

differenc between narrative essay and stories

Is a Narrative Essay Different From a Short Story? The term “narrative” can refer to a type of essay, short story or novel. However, each type of narrative has different elements. When writing a narrative essay, you will focus on telling a true story, usually something that happened in your past. When you write a short story, you create fictional characters and a plot. Understanding the differences between these types of narrative will help you recognize these works and may improve your writing skills.Fact vs. FictionShort stories and narrative essays differ in a few ways, but one difference helps define each type of writing. In a narrative essay, you will use facts to tell the story, typically relying on your own memory. With short stories, you will make up the content, creating characters and events that suit the story. You may struggle to maintain accuracy when you rely on your own memory for details or exact dialogue, but so long as you relay information to the best of your memory and do not change events or people, you can say you remained factual in the content of your essay, says Janet Burroway, a writer and Distinguished Professor Emerita of Florida State University.ThesisA narrative essay needs a thesis statement. This sentence belongs in the first paragraph of the essay and informs the reader of the main idea of your essay. For example, your thesis statement may say, “After I passed my driver’s test, I learned how difficult it is to be a good driver.” As you tell the story throughout your essay, y ou will work towards proving or showing the accuracy of your thesis statement.Although a short story does not have a thesis statement, many short stories do have a central theme. Perhaps the writer aims to show the impact of loss, love or other concept. She will not typically state the theme for the reader, but, instead, she will show this through the characters, plot and other story elements.StructureThe general structure of narrative essays and short stories will vary slightly. In a short story, you might place the reader in the middle of action from the first word. However, in a narrative essay, you will need to have an introductory paragraph, a body and a concluding paragraph. The introduction will give the reader background to the essay, and you will state your thesis, the main idea behind the essay. In the conclusion, you will help the reader summarize the content of your essay and how your story proves the thesis statement.SimilaritiesThese two types of writing have differences, but they also have similarities. Just as a short story contains characters and plot, a climax and resolution of the story, a narrative essay will also have these elements. You may also choose to put dialogue into your essay, something you will also find in a short story.。

对比辩证英文作文题目

对比辩证英文作文题目

对比辩证英文作文题目Comparative and Dialectical EssayThe world we live in is a complex and multifaceted one, where different perspectives and ideas often collide. This is particularly true in the realm of language, where the nuances and complexities of expression can lead to a rich tapestry of understanding or a tangled web of misunderstanding. In this essay, we will explore the concepts of comparative and dialectical thinking, and how they can shape our approach to language and communication.Comparative thinking is the process of identifying and analyzing the similarities and differences between two or more entities. In the context of language, this might involve comparing the grammatical structures, vocabulary, or cultural influences of different languages. By examining the points of convergence and divergence, we can gain a deeper appreciation for the diversity of human expression and the ways in which language reflects the unique experiences and perspectives of different societies. One of the key benefits of comparative thinking is that it allows us to challenge our own assumptions and biases. When we are confrontedwith a language or culture that operates in a fundamentally different way from our own, it can force us to re-evaluate our preconceived notions and consider alternative ways of understanding the world. This can lead to a more nuanced and flexible approach to communication, where we are better equipped to navigate the complexities of cross-cultural exchange.Dialectical thinking, on the other hand, is a more dynamic and interactive process of exploring the tensions and contradictions inherent in a given topic or idea. In the realm of language, this might involve examining the ways in which different linguistic traditions or schools of thought engage in a kind of intellectual discourse, each offering a unique perspective or critique of the other. The power of dialectical thinking lies in its ability to uncover the underlying assumptions and biases that shape our understanding of language. By engaging in a back-and-forth dialogue, we can challenge our own preconceptions and gain a deeper appreciation for the multifaceted nature of human expression. This can be particularly useful in the context of language learning, where the ability to navigate the nuances and complexities of a new linguistic system can be a critical factor in achieving proficiency and fluency. One of the key differences between comparative and dialectical thinking is the degree of engagement and interaction. Whilecomparative thinking involves a more detached and analytical approach, dialectical thinking requires a more active and participatory stance. In the context of language, this might mean not only examining the structural and cultural differences between languages, but also engaging in discussions and debates that explore the underlying assumptions and biases that shape our understanding of language.Another important distinction is the role of synthesis. Comparative thinking often aims to identify the similarities and differences between two or more entities, with the goal of developing a more comprehensive understanding of the subject matter. Dialectical thinking, on the other hand, is more focused on the tension and conflict between different perspectives, with the ultimate goal of synthesizing a new, more nuanced understanding that transcends the individual viewpoints. In the end, both comparative and dialectical thinking are essential tools for navigating the complexities of language and communication. By combining these approaches, we can develop a more holistic and flexible understanding of the ways in which language shapes and is shaped by the human experience. Whether we are learning a new language, engaging in cross-cultural exchange, or simply exploring the rich tapestry of human expression, the abilityto think comparatively and dialectically can be a powerful asset in our quest for greater understanding and connection.。

中英写作差异英语作文

中英写作差异英语作文

中英写作差异深度解析In the realm of writing, Chinese and English languages present distinct characteristics that impact the waywriters approach their craft. These differences are profound and range from the fundamental structure of sentences to the cultural nuances embedded within the language. Understanding these disparities is crucial for writers who strive to communicate effectively across cultures. The first significant difference lies in sentence structure. Chinese sentences tend to be more flexible and flowery, often lacking a clear subject or predicate. Instead, Chinese sentences rely on context and word order to convey meaning. By contrast, English sentences are more rigid, adhering to a strict subject-verb-object structure. This difference affects how writers approach sentence construction, with Chinese writers often employing parallel structures and repetition to emphasize certain points, while English writers rely more on grammar and punctuation to clarify meaning.Another key difference lies in the use of parallelism and coordination. Chinese writing often employs parallel structures, with phrases and clauses arranged in parallel to emphasize their equality and importance. This approach creates a rhythmic and harmonious flow, reflecting the balance and harmony valued in Chinese culture. In contrast, English writing tends to favor coordination, using coordinating conjunctions to link ideas together. This approach allows for more complexity and variety in sentence structure, reflecting the emphasis on logic and clarity in English language writing. The use of personal pronouns also differs between the two languages. Chinese writing tends to avoid the explicit use of personal pronouns, preferring instead to rely on context and implied meaning. This approach reflects the collectivistic nature of Chinese culture, where individuals often subordinate their own needs and identities to the group. By contrast, English writing makes frequent use of personal pronouns, reflecting the individualistic nature of Western culture and the importance of expressing individual thoughts and feelings. Finally, the tone and style of writing vary between Chinese and English. Chinese writing tends to be more implicit and indirect, relying on metaphor, simile, and allusion to convey meaning. This approach reflects the value placed on harmony and politeness in Chinese culture, where directness can be considered rude or intrusive. By contrast, English writing tends to be more direct and explicit, with a focus on clarity and precision. This approach reflects the emphasis on logic and objectivity in Western culture and the value placed on direct communication. In conclusion, the differences between Chinese and English writing are profound and reflect the distinct cultural values and traditions of each language. Understanding these disparities is essential for writers who wish to communicate effectively across cultures. By appreciating the unique characteristics of each language and adapting their writing style accordingly, writers can ensure that their message is accurately and effectively conveyed to a global audience.**中英写作差异深度解析**在写作领域,中文和英文两种语言呈现出截然不同的特点,影响着作家们的创作方式。

the difference between novel and movie

the difference between novel and movie

Movies and novels are two different art forms. As an art, the creation of the film is more unique, it is a lot of reference, the film from the novel to get inspiration and source. But once people get into the movies, they feel a sharp difference in the reading novels. Because the narrative angle of the novel is objective, and the performance of the film is subjective, the film artists often give up the "narrative" in the original novel, and reconstruct the whole story. For the novel, the story is not the most important of, if just a story, that we usually say popular novels, detective fiction, romance novels and novels for example, for this form of novel, telling stories of popular novels most can only be considered a second rate novel, write again good also difficult to impress real fiction lovers. Writing fiction, not in life and write life to clench his hair jump to watch her own above, have unique imagery and ideas, to use fluent and accurate language expression comes out, do not talk nonsense, not to say anything stupid. Countless expression resulted in novel also has many kinds of expression good novel shapes, different style, structure, language, resulting in the difference between a good novel are like the difference between good novels and bad novel so big, but good novels can make indistinct indistinct, let a person forget today, let a person get drunk and in later years always aftertaste in the language of the people. The movie is different, if the novel is a wage imagination through the language of art, the film is a kind of visual art, film form determines the impossible to have a lot of heart activity and the unique image expression, so the main function of the film or by face painting tell a story, which is why many mediocre popular novels can adapted into a classic film, like "the godfather", and many first-class literary works is difficult to adapt a first-class movie film to express novel inherent charm and temperament. Films are relatively novel, although there are defects in the expression, but also has the advantages of the visual art, lifelike, people do not need to arouse too much imagination, with the impact of the stronger, more let a person feel empathyThe American film theorist Bruce East said: "when the film artists set about adaptation of a novel, although the change is inevitable, but in fact he only adapted a story outline of a novel novel is only regarded as a bunch of material, he saw is its language and theme, characters and plot. This is the difference between the film and the novel." Generally speaking, each of the novel structure, the story, the idea is unique and unrepeatable, how to grasp the connotation of the original novel, convey the essence and the essence of the original novel, can best embody the artist's skill, also reflected artist's aesthetic attitude. When we read novels, we first come into contact with this system, which is composed of the text language. Through the writing language, we understand the story and characters of the novel, and finally get the inner meaning of the novel. There are three kinds of novels, stories, novels, novels and films, which embody different levels of emphasis. The story of the novel is usually the event as the center to the performance of the theme, the development of the event, the story of the narrative. This kind of novel is very easy to adapt for the film, because the film is characterized by the action and the plot, the rhythm of the story is also more in line with the requirements of the film, most of the film can be described as visible action. Director Zhang Yimou "alive" is adapted from the novels of Yu Hua, director seize protagonist Fugui drifting life this main clue, bold emasculated, merge the plot of the dendrite. The original novel is the "memory" structure, the film uses its unique narrative point of view to the performance of the whole story, in a compact and concentrated. Comparison between British English and American English

Comparison between British English and American English

Comparison between British English and American English英语132 1132520042 周亚男Introduction“English is the world’s most widely used language and the impact of one of the contemporary English into British English and American English. British English and American English is the same language, But English-speaking people in the use of the process, because of the geographical, social, education, occupation, gender, national, factors such as changes in the characteristics of a different language.”British English is regard as the “original” variety of the language. The language of Shakespeare and other great writers. American English is widely used in Americas and is becoming popular in the worldwide. Through the analysis of the two variants of English, we can realize some British and American culture characteristics, and know these features can help us better understand Britain and the United States; it is also very helpful for us to be more aware of the development of English. Through the analysis of the two variants of English, we can express English accurately, enrich English knowledge and improve the use of English. And the most important thing is that it is also beneficial for a second English learner to understand when there is British English there should not allowed to use American English. It is good for English learners to study English efficiently and communicate well. Thus thecomparison between British English and American English is necessary. The origin of British EnglishIn fact, it’s only bee n 300 years when English has truly become the mother language of British. English is an Anglo-Frisian language brought to southeastern Great Britain in the 5th century AD by Germanic settlers from various parts of northwest Germany (Saxons, Angles) as well as Jutes. It evolved from Anglo-Saxon dialects which was spoken in southern Britain in 1400, and brought a lot of words from French which were normally used by Normans who conquered British in 1066. Wales, Scotland and Ireland were three different countries at that time, they spoke Celtic languages. Europeans didn’t realize the existence of North America at all during that period, so the European scholars use Latin as their language. During the 15th century, Middle English was transformed by the Great Vowel Shift, the spread of a standardized London-based dialect in government and administration, and the standardizing effect of printing. Early Modern English can be traced back to around the time of William Shakespeare. Then the modern English kept developing. The origin of American EnglishBefore the year of 1700, there was no such a difference called American English and British English. However, some of the British immigrated to Americas and they built up a new independent country—United States of America. So English was brought to America. At that time, the culture of America was mixing with which of Indian, Spain, France and some of the Black culture, the spoken and written form was little influenced by the standardization and unification of British Eng lish. That’s the how American English originate and developed. In 1620, the pilgrims from Britain started to settle down in Plymouth, Massachusetts in America and gradually established a colony which was called New England. These residents brought English to the Americas, from then on, American English and British English was altering in America and Britain all the time.Differences of American English and British EnglishThe constantly changes make the difference between American English and British English. At a time, American territory has been being expanded from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean. So the American English could not only absorb Indian but also other foreign languages, and at the same time, the people used them so flexibly that there began to exist some differentiation from the standard English which developed in Britain. Then I am going to show their differences in various aspects 1.Dialectal synonymsSuch distinctive differences, words with more or less the same meaning used in different regional dialects, that remain between the two main varieties of English——British English and American English——can be readily illustrated by Richard Armour’s poem, Mother Tongue(quotedfrom Malmstrom:1965:107-7):oh, to be in England,if only ‘arf a mo’.Where, when they speak of wireless,They mean a radio,Where private schools are publicAnd public schools are snobbyAnd insurance is assuranceAnd a cop is called a bobby,Where a traffic hub’s a circusAnd up is down the streetAnd a sweater is a jumperAnd candy is a sweet,Where a cracker is a biscuitAnd a trifle is dessert. And bloody is a cuss wordAnd an ad is an advert,Where gasoline is petrolAnd a stone is fourteen pound. And motorcars have bonnetsAnd you take the Underground,Where, holding up your trousers,It’s braces that you use,And a truck is called a lorryAnd boots are really shoes,Where a druggist is a chemistAnd the movies are the flicksAnd you queue up on the pavementFor a stall at three and six…There is no language barrierThe tourists need to dreadAs long as he knows EnglishFrom A to Z(no, zed).(italics added, to show the lexical contrast in two varieties)Then dialectal synonyms can also be found within British English, or American English itself. For example, the “girl” is called “lass” or “lassie”in Scottish dialect, and “liquor” is called “whiskey” in Irish dialect. Why there would have dialectal synonyms? It is because British English and American English adsorb other different dialects. In other dialects, the same thing has different labels, which also explains the diversity of English.2.Spelling differenceIn British English and American English, some words pronounce the same, look quite similar and have the same meaning, the only difference relies on the spelling. The other word is not regard as misspelling, but as a real word.As the form shows, it might be safe for us to draw the conclusion that American English is simpler than British English on the perspective of spelling.3.Syntactic differences(differences of grammatical structure) Although differences of grammatical structure between the two main varieties of English—British English and American English—are few, yet the most conspicuous are known to many users of both national standards. For the verb get, for instance, American English has two past participles, but British English has only one. Thus, where an American speaker says(1)He should have gotten to school on time.A British speaker would use got. With a singular collective noun such as government, either a singular or a plural verb may be used in British English, whereas in American English a singular verb is required. While in British speech, speakers can omit the pronoun it from the sentence. (2)I could have done itIt is nor permitted in American English. With all such differences, each variety may seem to be restricted to a small group. However, a common core is present in all varieties; a set of grammatical and other characteristics that runs through one variety of a language is present in all the others.4.Cultural contrastWords can also show the cultural contrasts between British English and American English. Where an Englishman takes a lift to the second floor, and American takes an elevator to the third floor. And there were other changes that naturally grew out of differences between the political systems of the two countries were reflected in vocabulary, such as congerss(ional), gobernor, gubernatorial, sheriff, caucus, presidential, senate, assembly, primary. While many, though not all, of these words feature in British English also, they differ in their meaning in that context, and naturally there is also a difference in the frequency of use of such terms.Through the writing of this paper, we can know that there are some differences between British English and American English in spelling, grammar structure, culture and so on. But someone believes that with the development of economy, differences between American English and British English will gradually reduce; the international Standard English will appear. In my opinion, even if the international English shows up , studying the differences between the two major English dialects is still important. We may pursue the standard language, but we can not abandon the language diversity. Through the analysis of the two variants of English, it helps us to stimulate curiosity and creativity, cultivate the spirit of exploration and innovation, which means a lot to our human being.

The differences between men and women in conversation under Chinese culture

The differences between men and women in conversation under Chinese cultureThe fact that there are differences between men and women in conversation under Chinese culture is beyond reproach.Robin Lakoff , a famous Linguist in America , said in her book"Language and Woman's Place", men usually exhibit strong and powerful, straightforward, assertive in conversation which is called dominance, while women show mild and indirect circuitous which is called subordination. We observed that men are interested in social topics such as politics, business, law, taxation and sport, while women talk more about family, emotional and life. Most of them are accustomed to talk about the result in the conversation, and the pattern that they solve the problem is grasp the key quickly , then resolved immediately. While women are used to emphasize the process, everything begins at the beginning, and finally summed up the results and the reasons. So that women always seemed more words than men, and looks nagging. In fact, occasion is the deciding factor of the discourse amount .Men often pay more attention in public than women to show their ability with a expert gesture speech, and the style of the conversation is report talk, while they will be lack of such power in an informal setting, and the amount of words becomes less naturally. This common phenomenon depends on the development of Chinese culture. We learn the words and behavior of potential normative guidelines from our parents, relatives, friends or others in our growth.A variety of social and cultural customs precipitate slowly among our awareness, the way of conversation will gradually become a habit ,even a subconscious. It has always been in Chinese culture that a man works outside and the woman works for the family, emphasizing the masculinity of male and the feminine style of female. So that women are developing with the good wife and mother attitude and style which is in accordance with the provisions of social culture.。

中外思想不同英语作文

中外思想不同英语作文

中外思想不同英语作文In the realm of cultural exchange, the differences between Eastern and Western thought are a fascinating subject. The following essay explores these differences through the lens of language and communication, focusing on the English language as a medium for understanding these contrasts. The Essence of Eastern and Western Thought in English CompositionThe English language, as a global lingua franca, serves as a bridge connecting diverse cultures and their unique thought processes. When it comes to writing an essay in English that reflects the differences in Eastern and Western thought, one must delve into the core values, philosophical underpinnings, and communication styles that define each culture.Eastern Thought: Harmony and CollectivismEastern thought, particularly in countries like China, Japan, and Korea, is deeply rooted in the concept of harmony. Thisis reflected in the way Eastern writers approach their compositions. They often emphasize the interconnectedness of all things and the importance of maintaining balance in life. The English essays written by Eastern thinkers may exhibit a more holistic view, where the individual is seen as part of alarger collective. This is evident in the language used, which tends to be more indirect and suggestive, respecting the reader's ability to infer meaning.Western Thought: Individualism and DirectnessIn contrast, Western thought, prevalent in countries like the United States, Canada, and many European nations, is characterized by a strong emphasis on individualism. Western writers often prioritize the expression of personal ideas and beliefs. English essays written from a Western perspective tend to be more straightforward and assertive. The language used is typically more direct, with a clear delineation of ideas and arguments. This approach encourages a more confrontational style of debate and discussion, where the strength of one's argument is paramount.Language as a Medium for Cultural ExpressionThe English language, with its rich vocabulary and flexible grammar, allows for the expression of both Eastern and Western thought. However, the cultural nuances are often embedded in the choice of words, sentence structure, and the overall tone of the writing. For instance, Eastern writers might use metaphors and analogies more frequently to convey complex ideas, while Western writers might opt for clear, concise statements and logical reasoning. The Challenge of Cultural TranslationTranslating the essence of Eastern and Western thought intoEnglish is not without its challenges. Cultural idioms, proverbs, and colloquialisms may not always have direct equivalents, leading to a need for creative expression. Moreover, the subtleties of non-verbal communication, such as tone and body language, must be captured in the written word to convey the full depth of meaning.ConclusionUnderstanding the differences in Eastern and Western thought is crucial for effective cross-cultural communication. English, as a global language, provides a platform where these differences can be explored and appreciated. By recognizing and respecting these distinctions, we can foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of the diverse perspectives that enrich our global community. This essay serves as an overview of the differences in thought between Eastern and Western cultures, as reflected in the English language. It is important to note that these are generalizations and that individual writers may not strictly adhere to these patterns. The beauty of language lies in its ability to transcend cultural boundaries and bring people together through shared understanding.。

One of the most notable differences is the language itself. While both countries speak English, there are subtle differences in vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation that can be found in their literature. In British literature, the language tends to be more formal and traditional. There is a greater emphasis on proper grammar and sentence structure, and the vocabulary used is often more complex. This can make Britishliterature more challenging to read for non-native speakers, but it also gives it a certain elegance and sophistication.American literature, on the other hand, is often more colloquial and informal. The language is simpler and more direct, with a focus on conversational speech rather than written language. This makes American literature more accessible to a wider audience, but it can also lack the depth and complexity of British literature.Another difference between British and Americanliterature is the cultural context in which it is written. British literature often reflects the country's richhistory and cultural traditions, with a focus on themeslike class, social hierarchy, and the monarchy. American literature, on the other hand, tends to be more focused on individualism, freedom, and the American Dream. In terms of literary genres, both countries have contributed significantly to the development of literature. British literature is known for its classic works of poetry, drama, and fiction, from Shakespeare to Jane Austen to Charles Dickens. American literature, on the other hand, has made significant contributions to the genres of the novel, short story, and poetry, with writers like Ernest Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and Emily Dickinson. In conclusion, while both British and Americanliterature share a common language, there are significant differences in their use of language, cultural context, and literary genres. These differences reflect the uniquehistories and traditions of each country, and contribute to the rich diversity of literature that exists today.。

英语对比作文题The English language is one of the most widely spoken and influential languages in the world. It is the official language of many countries and is used extensively in international business, education, and communication. However, the way English is used and perceived can vary significantly depending on the cultural and linguistic context in which it is used. This essay will compare and contrast the use of English in different parts of the world, highlighting the unique characteristics and challenges associated with each. One of the most notable differences in the use of English is the distinction between native and non-native speakers. Native speakers, those who have grown up speaking English as their first language, often have a deeper understanding of the language's nuances, idioms, and cultural references. They may also have a more natural and fluid command of the language, with a wider vocabulary and a more intuitive grasp of grammar and syntax. In contrast, non-native speakers, those who have learned English as a second or additional language, often face unique challenges. Theymay struggle with pronunciation, vocabulary, and grammatical structures that are unfamiliar to them. Additionally, they may be influenced by the linguistic and cultural norms of their native language, leading to the development of distinct regional or national varieties of English. One example of this is the use of English in India, where it is one of the official languages. Indian English, or "Hinglish," as it is sometimes called, is characterized by the incorporation of words and expressions from other Indian languages, as well as the use of distinct grammatical structures and idioms. This variety of English is often seen as a unique blend of Indian and British linguistic influences, reflecting the country's complex history and cultural diversity.Another example is the use of English in the Caribbean, where it is the official language in many countries. Caribbean English, or "Creole English," is heavily influenced by the languages of the region's indigenous populations, as well as the languages of the colonial powers that once ruled the area. This variety of English is often characterized by the use of unique vocabulary, pronunciation, and grammatical structures, which can make it challenging for outsiders to understand. In contrast, the use of English in countries like the United States, theUnited Kingdom, and Australia is often seen as the "standard" or "prestige" form of the language. These varieties of English are typically associated with a higher level of education, social status, and professional success. However, even within these countries, there can be significant regional and social variations in the way English is used and perceived. For example, the English spoken in the southern United States often has a distinct accent and vocabulary that can be quite different from the English used in other parts of the country. Similarly, the English used in working-class or marginalized communities may be seen as less "proper" or "correct" than the English used by the upper classes or in formal settings. These differences in the use of English can also have significant implications for education and language policy. In many countries, there is often a strong emphasis on teaching "standard" or "prestige" forms of English, which can marginalize or devalue the linguistic diversity of the population. This can lead to the perpetuation of social and economic inequalities, as those who are able to master the "standard" form of English are often seen as more educated, successful, and socially mobile. At the same time, there is a growing recognition of the value of linguistic diversity and the importance of preserving and celebratingthe unique varieties of English that have developed around the world. Many linguists and educators are now advocating for a more inclusive and pluralistic approach to English education, one that recognizes and celebrates the richness and complexity of the language in all its forms. In conclusion, the use of English in different parts of the world is a complex and multifaceted phenomenon. While there are certainly some common features and characteristics that unite the language, there are also significant regional and cultural variations that make it a truly global and diverse language. By recognizing and celebrating this diversity, we can gain a deeper appreciation for the richness and complexity of human language and culture.。

中英国语言差异英语作文

中英国语言差异英语作文

Growing up in a world where English is spoken as a second language, Ive always been fascinated by the subtle nuances that differentiate the way it is spoken in different countries. The English language, though originating from England, has evolved into various dialects and accents, each with its unique charm and characteristics. My journey to understand these differences has been both enlightening and enriching. As a high school student, I was introduced to British English through literature and media. The sophistication of Shakespeares works, the wit of Oscar Wilde, and the eloquence of Jane Austen captivated me. The way they used language was poetic and elegant, a stark contrast to the more casual American English I was accustomed to. British English, with its precise vocabulary and grammatical structures, seemed to carry a certain gravitas that commanded respect. One of the most noticeable differences between British and American English is the pronunciation. The British accent, with its crisp consonants and distinct vowel sounds, is often associated with formality and sophistication. For instance, the British pronounce the r sound only when it is followed by a vowel, unlike Americans who tend to roll the r more freely. This difference became evident to me when I watched British films and TV shows, where the dialogues were delivered with a rhythm and cadence that was both pleasing and intriguing.Another aspect that sets British English apart is its vocabulary. Certain words that are commonly used in the UK have different equivalents in American English. For example, what Brits call a lorry is known as a truck inthe US, and a flat across the pond is referred to as an apartment. This lexical diversity intrigued me, and I found myself making a conscious effort to learn and use these British terms, feeling a sense of connection to the culture each time I did so.The grammar of British English also intrigued me. The use of the present perfect tense in British English, for instance, is more prevalent than in American English. This subtle distinction in verb tenses added a layer of complexity to the language that I found intellectually stimulating. My fascination with British English led me to participate in a school exchange program, where I had the opportunity to visit the UK. This experience was a turning point for me. Immersed in the culture and surrounded by native speakers, I was able to observe the language in its natural habitat. I noticed how the British use language to convey politeness and social etiquette, often employing indirect speech acts to avoid being too forward or blunt. One memorable incident occurred during a dinner with my host family. When I asked if they could pass the salt, they responded with, Would you mind passing the salt? This indirect way of making a request was a common feature in British English, and it was a stark contrast to the more direct American way of speaking. It was a small but significant insight into the cultural values of politeness and respect for personal space. The British also have a unique sense of humor, often using irony and understatement to great effect. This was something I had to learn toappreciate and understand. Initially, I found it confusing, as the literal meaning of a statement was often the opposite of the intended meaning. But as I became more familiar with this style of humor, I began to appreciate its cleverness and the subtlety with which it was delivered. In conclusion, the differences between British and American English extend beyond mere pronunciation and vocabulary. They reflect the cultural values, social norms, and historical influences that have shaped the way people communicate. My journey to understand these differences has not only deepened my appreciation for the English language but has also broadened my perspective on the world and the diverse ways in which we express ourselves. Its a reminder that language is not just a tool for communication but a reflection of our identities and our cultures.。

英语阅读上海互联网时代观后感

英语阅读上海互联网时代观后感

英语阅读上海互联网时代观后感The Internet age is another masterpiece of CCTV after the rise of great powers, the power of companies, Wall Street, etc. Inheriting the style of previous CCTV record blockbusters, the film is magnificent from shooting scene selection, shooting angle to dubbing; The opening picture and background music can attract the audience at once and bring us into that era as if we were on the spot. The first episode mainly describes the birth process of Internet technology, introduces the process of human civilization from the generation of steam engine, looks back at the tremendous impetus of science and technology to the development of human society in the long river of human history, and compares with the agricultural era and the industrial era. The Internet era has brought a new way of life to mankind. What impressed me most was that when I introduced "L" and "O", I repeatedly emphasized their importance to the development of the Internet era, "this is the knock of the new era, and this is the breath and heartbeat of new life." "L" and "O" attest that computers are interconnected for the first time. Sincethen, computers are no longer independent machines. The passionate words and emotional narration in the play really let us feel the impact and baptism it brings from the inside out.In the wave of commercialization in just two decades, Internet technology has written an industrial legend and entrepreneurial life that has changed the world at an unprecedented speed. The 21st century is a society of digitalization, networking and knowledge economy. The information industry will become the focus of national strength competition and the strategic pillar industry of the country, which will directly affect the survival and development of the country in the new century. E-commerce based on digitalization and networking will change the traditional trade form, provide the driving force for economic development, and become an important growth point for the national economic development of all countries. The fifth episode describes the rise of individuals in the Internet era by means of intelligent creation, news dissemination and self-worth realization. There is a very classic saying: every one of me makes you stronger, and every one of you can become moreeffective. This is the best explanation. The difference between the characteristics and connotation of the Internet and all electronic communications lies in that everyone is a creator. Such a great era was created by everyone. The world has entered this era together. This is an era created by everyone, every participant, 600million Chinese Internet users and the world.Internet age stands at the height of human history and global vision. It is not only viewed from the perspective of the Chinese people, but also viewed with objective and intelligent eyes. The creators of the Internet in the camera, we approached them, came to their offices, saw their machines, and knew what the router was like and what the first computer was like. This is a documentary without any race, nationality or political prejudice. It expresses its admiration for the pioneers of the Internet from a unique perspective. The arrival of new things will inevitably have both advantages and disadvantages. While praising the convenience that the new era has brought to human life, the film Internet age has not forgotten to remind people to learn to "control". The emergence of cybercrime, cyber violence and other cyber security issues in the new era makes management and control more urgent, important and complex. In addition, the leakage of personal privacy and information security are challenges that will exist for a long time with the development of the network. We urgently need to build new privacy concepts and protection systems.CCTV spent three years elaborately creating the Internet age, which is a gift to all mankind. Interview traces are all over the world, and each scene has been carefully edited. The series interviewed roberttaylor, Larry Roberts, Tim Berners Lee, Winton Cerf, robertkahn, the world's recognized fathers of the Internet, as well as other world-renowned scholars and insiders; He visited dozens of universities and research institutions such as Stanford University, Harvard University and Oxford University. For the audience, this series can not only deepen our understanding of the development history of the Internet, but also lead us to learn from the cultures of various countries. The Internet age has made us more and more deeply realize that the Internet is bringing us not only a technological revolution, but also a social revolution, which will lead the whole mankind into a new era. Today, almost all aspects of our daily necessities, food, shelter, food, entertainment, and our work and life are inseparable from the Internet.
